Fuel grade question

Hi guys,



In the manual it says the minimum spec fuel you can use is 95 RON. In Oz standard unleaded is 91 Octane and Premium is 98 Octane. Is this the same as the ron standard and if it isn't is it possible to run standard unleaded in the tigger? SOme of the places we are going to go only have standard.

I would guess that you use RON octane values in Oz as they sound similar to those in the UK although our regular is 95. I personally would go for the premium if possible although short distances on the regular shouldn't do too much harm if you're not hammering the bike.



You could consider using an octane enhancer like this one http://www.camskill.co.uk/products.php?plid=m1b42s26p1390 although I've heard some adverse reports.

A useful article. On further research the Aussie standard is RON 91. Here's another good article

Which adds to the first article about how various refineries achieve the standard and how cutting corners to get the required RON figure can compromise the MON figure. As you point out MON is more relevent to our modern engines anyway.



I guess all I can do is put a tank of 91 RON thru tigger before I go bush stay out of the low rev range and see how it goes. I'll also ask the dealer ( who runs a daytona himself )

Most bikes I've had from new have all said that minimum RON is 85. I'd say the Tiger would run on the 91 without too much hassle even though the handbook say 95 is recommended. The ECU and all it's sensors should adjust the ignition to avoid "knock". Just don't lug the engine in the low rev range.

My dealer told me to run a mid range gas in it and that's what I've been doing.   No knock, runs fine.
