Title: D.I.D. Chain
Post by: Bixxer Bob on March 24, 2015, 03:57:50 PM
Just a word of warning regarding DID chain.  All DID chains need a DID specific chain splitting tool; and the newer types - I bought a 530VX - need a different rivetting pin to the older ones.  The instructions make it clear the old type pin is not suitable.  The only UK supplier I could find wanted £17 plus postage  :bug_eye   the newer type is denoted by a groove cut around the shaft like this:

Completely different form for the dolly (the bit that forms the rivet mushroom), the result is a wider spread than the old one.  Yes, it can be made, but first you have to know what to make, and without one, I had no clue.

DID links for riveting have a hollow centre, not solid like some other chains so the correct forming tool is essential.
