I've dragged the Uly pegs a couple of times each run through the dragon but it's still quite fun.

Here is the latest of my beastie.  The newest addition is the Touratech skidplate.

It's almost perfect.  I need to do some electrical mods to put some power on the instrument cluster for gps etc, and I need to add a pair of Jesse's, and then I think the bike will be done.

Geof

Edit: I sould add, the following is non stock:

Thunderbike Crash Bars
Touratech Skidplate
Touratech Headlight guard
Triumph Off Road pipe
TOR Tune
Homemade Highway pegs
Touratech Handlebar Crossbar
RAM mount for my eMap GPS
Triumph Rear fender extender
Triumph Front fender extender (not installed yet.)

I might also install a pair of zeta handguards (http://www.zeta-racing.com)

As far as I know, it's just the standard Triumph top box that was available.  It's got the Triumph insignia and is keyed to match the two side boxes.

Sorry its taken a while BT, we've been relocating from Darwin to Sydney.

Yes they are suitcases. The guy's name is Vladimir Perets (no sure about the spelling. He's a deaf mute who started riding around the world about 20 years ago on an old Jawa.

He's got a website up somewhere.

About an hour after this photo was taken he took a huge endo in a river crossing. He came up smiling, rode with me to Hall's Creek and did a hilarious sign language reenactment of the crash to anyone who would listen/watch?. A good guy.

Sweet!  Thanks for posting the pics.

You do have first dibs on an orange fender, just as soon as I get these other details worked out (new side job, taking me a while to get up and running.  Thanks for your patience).
Title:
Post by: pit0rz on November 29, 2007, 03:27:11 AM
doh!  I got the black from you cuz I thought there was no Orange!  Should I keep it nicey nice in the box for a future swap?
Title:
Post by: Stretch on November 29, 2007, 03:53:17 AM
There is no orange.  There may be later, but not now.

If it's not too bunged and scratched, I may take it in trade when I get
the colors up and running, using the traded fenders as a base for color-matched
 painted fenders.

But the trade-in must be in nearly perfect shape.  I can't (and won't) attempt
 to re-sell a scratched fender.

Be careful with it.
Title:
Post by: pit0rz on November 30, 2007, 01:50:53 AM
I wont even open the box you sent!  I'd much rather have Orange and would be more than happy to pay the extra $$ to get it.  You think the painted versions would be ok?  I imagine the plastic used on the one's you're sourcing have the color molded right in.
Title:
Post by: Stretch on November 30, 2007, 03:12:50 AM
Yeah, molded colored plastic, just like motocross bike bodywork.

If you want to hold on with it, that'd be okay.  I can paint a red fender orange and we can swap.

The painted fenders are going to cost more, due to the prep work and paint.  I haven't figured out how much yet...

I'll get on this then.  You and Noivson each want orange fenders, and another rider wants a Caspian Blue one.

Time to get off the pot.

This is the first set on the Tiger. However,I run them on the klr along with several friends who run them on 950 ktms, and stroms. They seem to wear down fast at first, then run for another 3 thousand. They average around 3/4,500 miles. There is still tread at those miles, but no real use off road.I don't feel they are as stable on wet pavement as the tourances that I run thru the summer, but no real problems. If your not used to runnin knobbies, they tend to walk around a little on the gravel/dirt roads.I do like their bite on sloppy roads, pretty stable bite up front.I like runnin them thru late fall to early spring on all my bikes because of the freeze thaw cycle we have here.

Happy Trails

Title:
Post by: HappyMan on October 03, 2008, 04:05:09 AM
It's a Touratech bash guard with an SW Motech center stand.  They are also TT crash bars.  I don't believe the stock Tiger center stand fits with the Touratech.

TT bash plate does work with the Triumph center stand if your bike is a 2001-2004.  If you have cast wheels, it's no go, if you have spoke wheels, they work together.  I have a thread somewhere around here on that.

My bike was delivered finally.  Now it sits, getting ready to have the forks removed for rework by Sasquatch. I think I'll let it warm up a little first (15 deg out)  I also plan on putting in the volt meter and doing the wiring fix. I'll have time since we're having a winter walloping right now.

Alright here's mine, I just bought it a few weeks ago and thanks to the crappy weather have only gone through one tank of gas.
It's a 2001 with about 25,000 well maintained miles and a few farkles to boot.
Can anybody recommend an inexpensive tank bag?

Title: A New convert to the Tiger
Post by: kraftykarper on March 14, 2010, 08:30:20 PM
Well, I've owned several bikes over the years, including CBR 600, and my last bike, Aprillia Pegaso 650, but never really felt happy with it. Although it sounded great, it was so uncomfortable over any distance. Plus the wind buffetting was awefull. Tried a mates Tiger and was so impressed. It suits my style of riding now, I've done the sports bike thing, and being a tall rider, found the Tiger suited me.

I could finally afford to get one, and picked it up this weekend. What a great bike, so easy to ride, good suspension, good performance, and I think they look good.

Last year we did a ride down to the central region of France, Limoge. This year a couple of mates and I are planning a ride down the west coast of France to the Pyrenees, and back. It was this that made my mind up to go for the Tiger.

At the moment I just cant stop sneaking off to the Garage to look at it, and plug in the Optimate! Is that sad ?

Figured I'd make my first post with pictures. I started out with a totaled yellow 99 (I think rickv's) and got it back to being road worthy. It ain't pretty and the camera sucks, but it sure is a fun bike to put the miles on.

The leader Tom had a fetish for fords, but due to the weather the water levels were low.

This was way back in October, 09. A nice ride on a very muddy road, with river crossings and the lot.

The picture was taken somewhere around here:

Ah, I was wondering if anyone would ever ask...  Believe it or not, it is against kite lines! If you ever saw the film "Kite Runner", that's a bit like things here. Those things can be deadly.

I have actually had a windsurf sail ripped (and almost ripped off my car's roof rack) and a friend has had a close encounter with one while riding. He was lucky the line got caught in his helmet air vent and slid out. But not before cutting quite a groove in the helmet. Had it slipped down, would have been nasty.

In fact, the same guy got another kite line once but had an antenna this time. The antenna swung back, hit him on the helmet and cut the line.

As if we didn't have enough dangers riding bikes...   :(

Finally got around to taking some decent photo's of my tigger last night. Traded my '98 Thunderbird Sport in for her back in November '08, having got somewhat frustrated by the poor fuel tank capacity, lack of weather protection and general discomfort over any real distance.

Have since spent the last two years farkling her so that she fit's me as near as possible (thank you e-bay)and have scourced various forums to sort out any weaknesses and intrusive faults (thank you fellow Girly owners). I absolutely love the bike to bits and have done more miles in the past two years, than I did in ten years that I had the TBS.

Will now spend any spare cash putting fuel into her and getting out as often as work and family comittments allow.

Lovely looking bike............ Hi I'm also thinking of putting BMW hand guards on my 53 reg Tiger and was wondering if they were easy to fit also what is the yellow ring on the throttle grip is this part of the BMW fitting ? cheers
Title: Beemer handguards
Post by: mikeybikey57 on August 17, 2010, 08:34:22 PM
Hi Shropshirelad,
Thank you for your positive comment which I heartily agree with but then I am horribly biased.

The BMW handguards were fairly straightforward to fit, using a mix of the included fitting kit and a few extra washers to fill out the gap between the bar-end weight and the original retaining bolt.
Also had to take a stanley knife (suitably warmed to get a neater cut) to the left hand guard so the clutch cable would comfortably pass through it.

I'd also wrap a little insulation tape around the handlebars before attaching the clamps as they will chew the paint off them when tightening up the pinch bolts.

The yellow thing is an O ring from a Caterpillar Tractor that has a new life as a cruise control ! It fits around the gap between the throttle grip and the bar end weight when in use and easily slides onto the groove around the middle of the weight when not in use. Very useful for tired right hands on long motorway runs.

ok.... here is my 2000 tiger 885i. Has all 3 matching bags. That's an older seat, new seat is a bill mayer. This is a sargent custom (I think.... it came with the bike). Has about 38,000 miles on it. Got newer reflective tape, removed the red and went with a better v82 DOT tape. Clutch cable routing is because it's a 1050 tiger cable. Has mustang pegs now, and hammerhead designs folding alloy shifter... in the pics they are stock.

When I got this bike, it was a turd. I had it totally in pieces, and cleaned up a lot of things on it.... replaced the head gasket while it was in pieces. A mouse had made a nest in the area where the wiring for the tail light is... so I cleaned all of that up too. Did maintenance on the swingarm and rear suspension when it was in pieces. Was going to sell it, but sold a cruiser instead.... after all the work on it - she runs fantastic!

a more recent addition - this is my 2006... all I did to it was get a top case, matching locks, heated grips, adjustable levers from a 1050, swmotech centerstand, bill mayer saddle, mustang pegs. It's just a baby with 10,000 miles on it.

I can tell you it was fun!   why would I have a Tiger if not for this?

It was a reasonable hill with a very fine sandy cover, something like a tennis court, very slippery. Just out of the picture, to the left, there was quite a ditch, almost as bad as the one going down the side of the road. I hadn't noticed it in time and my rear wheel got cought and made the rear fly off to my left. That's why i landed across the road... It was hard to pick up, had to take the bags off ( full and heavy) and pick it up with help. Problem was that it then wanted to fall in to the side ditch.

Broke the rear brake lever bolt right off (another post) so then I had to drive back with no rear brake - great fun!

Still got some small updates to do on my Tiggy, somewhere in the next few months before I head on to Barcelona in April:

- fehling crash bars
- additional hella running lights

Why Goodridge brake lines?
Title:
Post by: gorgash on January 05, 2011, 01:32:01 AM
I feel like the brakes are somewhat falling short. But then again, I still have to give it a thorough checkup, so it's possible something else is up.

I only ask because they already have braided hoses so will not gain anything.
Oh and it does look nice, can't decide whether to put lashes on mine or not.
Having looked again its an early model so not 100% on the brake lines now.

Have to check. As I said, maybe I'll start by purging the brake lines. That might help a lot.

On the plus side, you have a good set of Touratech crash bars on it.  Tigers like to lie down in car parks, or on the drive, or mine even pinned me to the garage wall for half an hour once...  :?

This is my new to me Tiger, a 2000 yellow Girly. This is also my first "adventure" type bike although I had plenty of adventures on my sport bikes. I guess I will play along. In the 3 short weeks since I adopted her I have over 400 miles logged. I can hardly wait to get out there with my cameras and document the new adventures. [/img]

1. Oops this was supposed to post to the "Girly picture thread" haha I gotta remember the buttons are diff than adv lol

2. Short version? A small electric gremlin running around the frame eating wires (i.e. we kept screwing with the electrics, and it worked. Took every connection out, cleaned, greased, etc.. and then she just started. Did a few at a time so not sure what it was, but something had it screwed up.)

GLAD IT IS NOW

What happens when I forget that this is a BIG bike with less then aggressive tires and not enough momentum to make it up the grade.
I rocked and rolled and struggled in 90 degree weather for 20 minutes just to turn the bike around and ride it down the rocky drainage gully
(http://i628.photobucket.com/albums/uu3/bgt595/2b63612b.jpg)
It doesn't look that bad at the beginning of the trail. (http://i628.photobucket.com/albums/uu3/bgt595/615e662b.jpg)
Thankfully I had three bottles of water to douse myself with and quench my thirst. Lessons learned.

This is Tigger.
1999 885i now wrapped around a 2000 frame (bambi strike Oct 2010 broke both frame downtubes and right cylinderhead motor mount... rode it off I-26 and found 2 spoke nipples popped off ... fixed it up and went riding ... 6 weeks later I pulled the tank for valve check and I realized the extent of the damage)
Deals Gap 05-Aug-2012 90K miles, now 91500.

As promised in the 955 V.s 1050 topic a few pictures of the bike I bought last weekend. It's a 2005 with just over 63T km (almost 40K miles) on the clock. Although I don't have serious off road plans, a set of crash bars is next on the list. The Zumo 660 is already mounted.

Got most of the design down. Full cage going around the tank and in front of the light. It all ties together to form a ridged mounting system for the skid.

So you've left the engine cases completely unprotected???? You should have looked at the Touratech crashbars and copied/improved on them.
Title: Re: Girly picture thread - Show us your T's
Post by: gawoody83 on March 01, 2014, 04:30:11 PM
The engine is mostly protected due to the cage sticking out past the tank and the skid sticking out past the engine. The skid is placed about an inch past the oil cooler. The other side is not yet finished and will be protecting the water pump and hose. This system keeps all the impact of a fall or skid plate bash off the engine like some other designs.

:thumbsup thinking out of the box, going to be harder to repair or find a replacement tank, better options for mounting forward soft bags.

So,this is it. After ten years my Girly is moving on. It's going to a familiar place, it goes to live at Robs place when I'm at sea or on deployment, now it's going to live there permanently.

Rob is a happy man, flew down from Brisvegas to pick it up, then Rode the 1400 odd Ks home again.

I'll look in on the place from time to time, have a lot of history here and will encourage Rob to join.

We took in a couple of laps of the Mt Panorama racing circuit, which is a public road for most of the year. This was a bucket list item for Rob and he was especially glad to do it on the Tiger rather than his other ride, a Goldwing.

Happy Rob. See ya round all, it's been beaut!

The old girl is still being worked on,and not road legal yet,but mostly back together and in reasonable operating order after being stolen, crashed and written off.
Not quite as pretty as some of her sisters on here, but good engine, sound handling and a cost to date of under £1300. I'm happy :icon_razz:

So here's a few photos of me, the Girly and the Bride, who was originally British before earning her US citizenship, and a double decker bus that sits by a fireworks stand in Willow, AK

The sign said road closed. Well, not if you have a Tiger!

And in front of the Goodheart store along M119, a road often compared to the Dragon. Well, I've ridden both and M119 is no Dragon, but is a challenging road just the same. It's narrow, twisty, has many sandy dirty corners and herds of hoof rats. But it is a lot closer.

Hey All, still here on the Girly.  Over the past 7-8 years I "buy-n-tried" some other bikes looking of a replacement for the 'ol Tiger.  You know, want cruise, ABS, better wind protection etc.  Well Tiger is the only ride in the garage again after selling my 2016 Aprillia Caponord.  That one almost beat the Tiger but in the end I didn't trust it.  Too finicky with the mapping and if your battery drops the slightest in voltage, limp mode baby!  Lots of things I liked about that bike.  Too bad about Aprillia and the Capo.  Others that came and went. 2009 BM R1200RT, 2007 Yamaha FJR, 2012 Ducati MTS 1200(too friction fast!! Seriously), 2008 Sprint 1050, 2006 Kawasaki Ninja 500(not a serious contender though) and a 2007 Honda XRL 650.

The Tiger hit 40k miles today! Probably would be 80k if not for all the others that came and went.  Tiger for the win!

I tried a couple of the earlier Caponord's,  :iagree , probably the nearest serious competitor, by serious I don't mean more gadjets, faster etc.

Glad to see I'm not the only one has a "rush of bikes" in a short time.
I didn't have a bike in my shed from 2005 until 2012, the longest period of time (my youngest reported).
Then to date, I've turned over about 8, with 3 still in my possession.  :icon_rolleyes:
Currently looking at a Mick Andrews Replica an hour down the road.
I really need to stop looking at motorcycle advertisements!  :nono

LOL, I have had 12 since 2013, so you are doing fine. None in my possession anymore, so number 13 will be here soon.

I've had my 1945 HD for over 40 years, last Steamer for 15, and current 800xc one for 5... Some do, some don't...

I hate letting go of my bikes, I'd still have the Blackbird if I hadn't written it off after 12 year. As it is, I have 5 bikes in the garage but only 3 are road legal.

Looking  :thumbsup and Mr Stenhouse will be dribbling  ;)
I wondered why black isn't just black but it's Granite in Steamer colours
An early 70's green 500/4,  I owned, was "Candy Jade"
