K & N oil filters have a handy 17mm nut welded to the end of their filters, allowing one to remove the filter from the recessed confines of
the Tiger sump without having to buy a special oil filter tool.
Steamers don't use spin-on oil filters, but a replaceable internal element. The part number for K & N oil filters for carbureted 885 engines is KN-192.

Fuel-injected 885i and 955i's need a spin-on KN-204.
I have heard of folks using a KN-191, but its diameter is 71mm, a bit bigger than the KN-204's 68mm. The 191 may or may not fit up into the sump. It's pretty tight up in there.

The only non-Tiger wheels I've heard of that will work on a Tiger are Dymag wheels. They are not available in 19-inch

Fuel Injection Mapping

The advantage is that the Tuneboy can have several different maps loaded into it, so a Tiger owner can quickly download the map that

It's about the size of a Gameboy® computer game system and comes with a USB cable for downloading programs from the Tuneboy to the
bike. There are anti-piracy features built in to the system, preventing somebody from buying a Tuneboy and then charging people to program

FUEL TANK FITTINGS
The plastic fuel tank fittings on earlier Girly models were prone to splitting and cracking, spraying gasoline (petrol :mrgreen: ) all over the engine and
electrics.
This was the subject of a factory recall, and by now most bikes have been retrofitted with the newer style fittings.
But even the replacement Triumph® fittings are part plastic.

These won't work on later 955's with the non-return fuel system. Pull the small black side cover from the left side of your bike, and look at the gold-colored metal plate bolted to the side of the gas tank. If it has two fuel fittings side-by-side, the Team Triumph fittings will work. If you have one fuel fitting coming out of the metal plate, bent down, these won't work.
AIR FILTERS
Everyone probably knows this, but the K&N air-filter is cheaper than the Triumph one, and is re-useable for life. Just sayin..........

Bearing numbers are standardized throughout the industry. A local bearing supplier can sell you the exact same bearing for
a fraction of a motorcycle dealer's price.

I'd recommend the Purolator Pure 1. Several sources have taken them apart and found significantly more filter area than other brands. The stock size is: PL14612, but if you have a skid plate or don't go off road, you can get the PL14610 which is an inch longer.
There is also a ~$100 replaceable element filter, but I cant find the link right now.

Actually the standard plug is an NGK DPR 8EA-9
The DPR 8EIX-9 is the Irridium replacement.

Just a note..
When I bought my '98 Steamer...USED..
I thought... service on this will be a nightmare!
But I did get a little wise....
On the BIG Triumph Tiger board... I started printing off all the
'how too' and part numbers stuff; 3-hole punching it and placed it in a
3-ring binder categorized by 'area' ( suspension, brakes, chain, electric, etc).
After 4 years I had a very nice library of information. When I sold my bike... I sold that binder for a reasonable price and I am certain that whoever has it now has added to it. It was better than the Triumph manual!

OEM: P/N T202330 $358 for set of front rotors that are known to warp.
EBC - Stealth Products - OEM are the only ones I have found with rotors for a 2006 Tiger.

Were you able to get a part number for this? Mine's had the same thing happen and we don't have a Triumph dealer in Cyprus.

definitely the symptoms and sounds a bad bearing makes .
With the wheel mounted on bike and the ass end lifted so the wheel is off the ground there should also be some play or looseness that is noticeable when you try to twist the wheel side to side .
If only one bearing is bad , you should replace them all anyway and replace the seals also .
The whole package for parts (2 seals and 3 bearings ) from bike bandit or the dealer will cost around 120 dollars for the parts .
the bearings can be had from a bearing supplier for approx. 10-15 dollars each , but you still need to get the seals from a dealer or bike bandit .

I just had this same problem. My bike started throwing coolant at me.... well... actually it was dripping to the front wheel which sports a TKC80... the knobs were catching coolant and throwing it back up all across my dash, windsreen, and helmet. Blech!
Anyway, I went to HD before I saw this post to source a brass one myself. I found that the 3/8" is not the right size. The standard piece of shit plastic stocker is 8mm.
I ended up ordering another stocker from Triumph USA. It was less than $1.50 but I had to wait a few days to get it.
But then I went for a ride last night only to find it's still leaking. I think the coolant reservoir cap that fits to the dash is somehow leaking.
Anyways, just a heads up that the HD solution is not a 100% correct fit.
TURN SIGNALS
Three of the four on my 02 Girly were badly perished and cracking at the flexible finned rubber/plastic stalk. Triumph wanted $100 AUS for them and stated that there were no aftermarket alternatives. Yeah right.
The indicators are a bit unusual as they use a small metric screw, offset to the body of the indicator to mount it to the frame.
My local independant shop guy and I trawled through a few catalogs and came up with these:

They are an MCS part listed as front indicators for KLX450R and Gas Gas dirt bikes. The mount is virtually identical to the Triumph and they have the flexible stalk more minor oppsies in the dirt. Part no IK29FL/H for the left front. I've lost the box but assume the right front would be IK29FR/H.
The wiring connection isifferent but I just snipped the fitting off the old Triumph indicators and soldered them on to the new ones.
Being dirt bike indicators they have a drain hole at the bottom of the lens that I managed to install wrong way up....... They will fit front or rear, if you like the look of them.
The best part? $19.95 each.
BRAKE / CLUTCH LEVERS
Today I found that a brake lever from a 2007 Suzuki GS500 is an exact match for the Tiger at less that 1/2 the price, it is in silver but didnt bother me, they are for backups. While digging through my local Honda dealers parts room I also found alot of clutch levers that will fit in a pinch but you will need a few 5/16th washers for spacers.

Has anyone found an alternative paper air filter element for an '06? I am not a fan of K&N on daily drivers. Race vehicles are fine as they are serviced after every race, but I feel the K&N lets too much dirt through if it's not being oiled and serviced frequently. And we all know that is not something we want to do on a Tiger.
My mechanic came up with a cheaper alternative and perhaps more readily available source for the Steamer Speedo Cable. Honda part that is reputedly fitted to the Africa Twins and some other 90's models.
Got these slightly extended arm (both height & width) from Sprint Manufacturing (http://www.triumphparts.gbr.cc/) .
They are the same pattern as the originals, so I am told, in the short use I have been able to make of them they have been good. Vibe free at legal speeds and just neatly match the bar ends for width. Note that I have non standard bars fitted.
I opted to fit rubber boots to give a slightly neater look and keep the crap out of the threads but the boots available from Sprint need a small grommet to match the bar diameter.
After a good deal of help from other forum users, thank you, and a few calls to Powerbronze "you want a screen for a steam motorbike" :BangHead the website page does not show any photos of a Steamer for that part, it's a Trophy or a Trident, which is a bit worrying when you are trying to plave an order
I managed to identify this screen as an alternative to the original shorty. Been good so far at legal speeds and keeps a lot more rain and bugs off than the original, noise and buffeting are of course helmet and rider dependant. Perfect fit, no noticable flex or vibration at speed.
Reasonable price considering it appears to be made to order if the part label is to be believed and the edge piping is thrown in. This is the "Light Tint" variation, not sure if all the colour variations are available but might be if they are making to order. Last three digits denote the colour.
IGNITER (IGNITION MODULE)The Ignitech SPARKER TCIP4 FULL unit from Ignitech is purportedly a plug and play replacement for the Steamer. Costs about $200 compared to the $740 for the Gill OEM unit retail and is programmable. I have not tried it, but I asked them:

they are 1 1/8 inch bars though so not sure about clamps and controls

I tried this on my 885i and the shifter would not fit on the shaft. The curve looked right, but something was not quite right. I even tried opening the gap on the shifter with a screwdriver.

I just changed the ignition switch on a 94 Tiger. I used a Kawasaki 7 wire switch. Fits straight on, steering lock even works. I had to change a couple of wires to get it working. Cost 50€ on eBay which is much cheaper that the Triumph part. Just Google 736901 and you should find one on eBay.

Part numbers are the same for 98 carbed 885 and 1999 FI engine , according to bike bandit . So I would have to say yes they are the same :D

Just a heads up for those of you considering the use of Yamaha oil filters on their Tigers. The filter on the left is the 5GH-13440-00 and was mentioned earlier as a replacement. When installed on my 2006, it hangs down below the pan about a half inch and is vulnerable to impact. The filter on the right is the 5GH-13440-20 and is a perfect fit. Have a skid Plate? Stick with the larger one.

I'd recommend the Purolator Pure 1. Several sources have taken them apart and found significantly more filter area than other brands. The stock size is: PL14612, but if you have a skid plate or don't go off road, you can get the PL14610 which is an inch longer.
There is also a ~$100 replaceable element filter, but I cant find the link right now.

Advance Auto did not carry the 11233 cap and it wasn't in the computer at all. They did have a 10233 so I brought it home and took a look and dimensions looked good. The cap is also 16 psi so the rating is correct. Put it on and seems to function well.
UPDATE: APPEARS THAT THIS CAP MAY OPEN UP FLOW TO THE OVERFLOW TOO EARLY CAUSING BOILING OVER. GOT THE FACTORY CAP BACK ON A WHILE BACK AND CAN CONFIRM THAT THE STANT 10233 IN THE WRONG CAP. PLEASE DON'T TRY THIS UNLESS YOU LIKE BOIL OVERS!

You know, the little metal plug that screws over the pad retaining pin on the Girlies and Steamers and gets rounded out in no time.
Go to Triumph and they only sell a kit of the plug and a new pin, about £8
Go to Honda and ask for a 45203-MG3-016 £2.35, thats better but still dear for what it is really

Anyone know of the steering stem upper bearing dimensions for 2006?
the lower is on BBandit as 30 x 55x17 but it doesn't have the upper #
I replaced them on my 2000 years ago but sold it and sent off the maint. log

There are actually 2 different versions of the fender ,
serial #20131 and below is for the bolt on coolant reservoir and serial #20132 and up is for the riveted on tank
Hi All,
The key on my gas cap stopped working so I had to bust the latch and I was smelling gas now.
The stealership wanted $150 for a new cap which meant another key or a trip to the locksmith to see if maybe they could fix the f'ed up one.
Looking on the web found one for $100 on ebay.
The ebay one said it would work on a Daytona, Speedtriple, Sprint RS/ST, Tiger or TT600.
After checking Bike Bandit the part # from my 2000 900i matched a 2000 Daytona.
I wanted to get ride of the pesky key anyway.
The Daytona has a few after market choices.

After 6 days of emails back and forth here is what I got.

The fit is right on I could feel the gasket set when I tightened the outer cap down.
It looks like there is some pressure relief I have to put some miles down to know for sure.
The cap does not cause a vacuum in the gas tank.
I don't know how well the cap will hole when the bike takes a nap.
I'm heading to Death Valley end of March the bike may get tired then.
Any problems I will post them.

Is there an equivalent for a clutch cable on a 2001 tiger with bar risers? Can't seem to find it here... :^_^

Measured my spare cable a standard one is 47inches or 120cms long, add a bit for the risers.......

All of it, cable end to end including the sleeve which is obviously shorter.
Master Cylinder Rebuild Kit Kawasaki KZ1000 ZL1000 ZR1000 ZX1000 Ninja ZR1100 worked like a charm.
Square shaped mirrors from an early 80's Kawasaki four-cylinder 750, look very similar by comparison to the units on my '96 Steamer, if anyone is chasing "look a-like" replacements
A very close replacement for the originals, a fraction longer arm also used by Honda, is available from Busch & Muller as attached.
Another close one is a "folding stalk" from somewhere just west of Guangzhou, they don't look terribly robust, the stalk is slightly on the short side, the view can get slightly fuzzy at motorway speed but so far have stood up and the view is wide, undistorted and clear. (I'll add a photo later)
