And a honda xr 500 from 1985 next to the 124, and a volvo 480 wedge on the right hidden behind the tiger. We love our old stuff. 124 is a 2.8 from 93, same birthday as the tiger.
Still amazing how that cdi fooled us, damned thing.
Glad it happened, weather was crap anyway and had do the alternator rattle anyway plus every leccy contact on the bike is clean and shiny and the little f..ker is also brand new.

Most importantly made some friends abroad and found a great forum :occasion14

Done, celebrated labor day by working on her. Rebuilt carbs and put her back together, she was a parts pile.
Still need a digital clock because the p.o. thought a fake temp gauge from an old vw was cooler and lost the original clock...
She is soooo pretty !!!  :love10 [attach id=19291]IMG_20240501_230240.jpg

Last post by London_Phil - May 01, 2024, 03:57:19 PM
Difficulty comes from the plastic tank.
You would need to ensure additives wont eat the tank away.
Might be worth looking at Trials bike Forums, as they often have plastic tanks, and may have a solution.
BTW remember to be careful with the tank fittings, as they seize, and there is very little meat behind them...
To be honest even before the E10 issue, my Steamer would cause all sorts of issues if left for than more than a few days, with blocked jets. If lucky I could ride on choke then get on a main road for 5 to 15 mile as and it would clear. I tried Mikuni and Keihin carbs, but in the end I went EFI with an 800XC, and whilst I love the Steamer look, EFI, especially where we have emission charges just works

Guys, do you use a fuel stabilizer or ethanol eliminator to prevent the tank from eating itself from the inside. Found strange white slimy stuff inside, even after a good clean.
We have 10% starting with this year added to gasoline, kind of worried. In old plane engines we used to add lead additive so I'm sure we can figure smt out for this pesky ethanol.
Found something from VP that states its a fuel stabi with ethanol shield...any thoughts?

I never had and never will have a efi bike, but on an efi car engine, most idle issues relate to the idle air control valve, engine temp sensor and/or air intake temp sensor, last but not least vacuum leaks around the iacv and tb. Best of luck and keep us posted.
I would try unplugging sensors one by one to see if anything changes. If unplugged the temp sensor usually make the engine run faster and richer so dont worry, map goes to a 50/50 emergency mode.

Update, CDI arrived, bike runs perfect. Lesson learned, although we measured everything, changes transistors, resoldered and all the good stuff, only thing that made it run was another cdi, arrived today and she purrs and revs like the beast she is.
She is in pieces but will put her back together tomorrow.
