how does this front sprocket look?

Hi all,



 This is the front sprocket from a 2000 Triumph Tiger 885i. It is my first chain driven bike. The previous owner doesn't remember if when he put a new chain in 20000 miles ago, if only the rear sprocket or both front and rear were changed.



I'm about to go for a 10000 miles ride to the arctic and back. I put a new D.I.D. X Ring Gold chain 8000 miles ago, but didn't change the sprockets because I'm a dumb ass.

Now the chain is pristine, for sure still has another 10000 miles on it, no problem, but I'm not sure about this front sprocket. The rear looks more squared, with more material in the teeth.



Does this look bad?

The sprocket is junk ...............


for less than 300 bucks change out the chain and both sprockets
before you go and you won't have to deal with any surprises on the trip  :D

Do I need an impact wrench to change sprockets? Once I break the chain, how hard (or easy) is it to do?

Also, to buy new sprockets, any 530 chain sprocket with the right amount of teeth will fit? Or is there anyting else I need to have in mind?

1- No impact wrench needed, just the right socket with a long breaker attached...put bike in gear...hold front brake on and with your left foot whack the bar down...did mine that way, oh..break the chain?? I take you mean split it..if so no need.

2- Check on bike bandit for a suitable sprocket 18 or 19 teeth and you probably need a tab washer as it doesnt look like ones fitted.

you will need sprockets that are made for your Girly ............

you'll need a 114 link chain

you can get the old one apart by dremel tool on the link pins to the master link

but to install a new master link you will need a good chain tool which runs in the vicinity of a 100 bucks or more ,

maybe cheaper to just let a dealer do the job .

I agree with the above but why has the spocket cover been cut and why not use a spilt link?

Get a SuperSprox rear sprocket if you can. I've had mine for the past 15,000 miles and it has ZERO wear on it!

Also, Mustang is wise. If you are headed out on a 10k mile trip, do not go without replacing both sprockets and the chain.
