I never asked!!,I presume you went into the box from the bottom??

Re the race shift,it came about because when you lean into a corner you can't get your foot under the gear lever as there's no room for you foot.

yes it was engine out, outer cases off and split the main cases with engine inverted, all is then revealed.
Really nice engine to work on with nothing awkward at all.
you are spot on about the shift and feet as back in the day I bravely/stupidly put a Kwack triple on the track.
The shift was inverted after the first race......don't ask.
needed a resole on a boot too!
