Touring in Germany

My Friend and I are planning a small tour down through Germany about mid May. We should be coming into Germany via Arnhem or Nijmegen in Holland and heading south towards Garmisch Partenkirchen. Does anyone have any routes they have travelled that they may care to suggest? The down side is we only have seven days, but heck you have to sieze any chance you get !!!

Hi



Germany is a great place to tour, but where you go depends on what you want to see and how you want to do it. Germany is a big place.



With only 7 days you will have to go a bit on the autobahn if alpine passes or the black forest is on the list.



Every other year I go to a party in Munich for the weekend so it can be done but you donÌt see a lot of the real Germany on a trip like that. How experienced are you in long distance travel? If you are just finding your touring legs then there are many beautiful places in the mid west, Mosel valley, Eiffel mountains to name just two that are in easy reach and offer more exploring time.

Do you like historical cities?

Do you what the peace of countryside?

If the bikini-clad lake Constance is an attraction then May is a little too early in the season.



If you draw a straight line from your entering point and finish then you would be mostly crossing the central plain, it has some nice towns but the roads are a little boring.

I would suggest heading straight for Baden-Baden in the Black forest. Then get onto the Strasse 500 heading south. It's great road but is VERY popular with fast bikes and the "old bill"has a field day at the weekends.

Further south along the German/Austrian border is the "Deutche Alpen Strasse". It runs from Lindau on the "Bodensee" to Berchtesgaden and hugs the border all the way.

If those are too far, I've found the Rheinland area, which includes the Nurburgring to the North end, good. Also, the area east of Koln & north of Frankfurt has some very twisty roads. The 2003 Triumph "German Summer Party" was based at Gladenbach, in this area.



Mind how you go. The police hide their speed guns very well.
