My son and I just got back from a beautiful ride around the big lake. (Lake Superior) 1950 miles.  This was the first big road trip for my nine year old.  I take each of my kids around the lake on a camping trip as they get old enough.  This is their initiation into bigger and longer road trips.  Next year this little guy gets to go to Banff!

HappyMan,

Thanks a bunch for this RR. I went to college at Lake Superior State in Sault Ste. Marie and worked a couple of summers as a Tech for the university along the shoreline of Lake Superior from Whitefish Point to Grand Marais. I traveled much of your route in that area on a daily basis and your pics brought back some long lost memories.

thanks again,
Todd

Not nearly as much as I'd like to have.  I set my route and plug it into my GPS and then I tell my GPS to re-route it for shortest distance and nothing but minor roads.  It'll take me down some awesome roads as you've seen in some of the pics.  However, I didn't get my TKC's on before the trip and my tires were running thin.  I didn't mind the lack of grip but my biggest concern was on some of the sharper, rockier stuff.  Getting a flat in the middle of nowhere and having it be a tear is not a great thought when you aren't carrying a spare.....So that being said I skipped a fair amount of the roads I would have taken for the sake of my tires.  We travelled 1950 miles and about 5-600 were on dirt.  If not on dirt they were small country roads.  I stay off of highways and freeways.  If I wanted to drive in a straight line I'd take the car..... 8)
