5w bulbs in headlights?

Have a couple more weeks before I can get back on the bike.  Pretty sad it has sat on Batterytender more this summer than mid-winter.  

Anyway, with time on my hands im exploring my Tiger in the garage.  

I have seen the little bulbs in the bottom of each headlight before.  I have now removed the headlight assy. for the first time.  What are the little 5w bulbs for?  They come on with the key and remain on after running.

Has anybody unplugged them?
