ok, I am a 'tard when it comes to using the search feature on this forum so I'll just ask.
With Dymag having filed bamkruptcy and selling off their equipment (what? you hadn't heard!) what other options are there for a 17" front wheel for a Girly? Are there any other Triumph wheels that will fit? I know Triumph likes to use a lot of cross-over pieces so I figure there's got to be wheels that will fit. Speed III maybe?
What I want to do is be able to have two sets (I know, not an original idea) so I can have road tires on one set and true knobblies on the other. If I'm going to do that I might as well have the 17 as my road wheel.

Dymag are back actually, though in a slightly different way, and the pricing is a bit different

They are due to move into new premises around 1st march.

Whether they will do Girly wheels again is another matter, the only other option really is to have different rims laced onto your current hubs, or as you say find something else that will fit

Don't you have specialist wheelwrights your side of the pond?  We have a few in the classified ads servicing the classic bike market....

What year is your Tiger?,or more to the point does it have mag wheels.

Why do you want a 17" wheel on your girl?

To answer some of the questions, Mine is a 2006 with mags. I'm coming off a 1994 CBR600F2 and I like the way 17s handle in the twisties. After looking at prices and availability on the CSA website I may just opt for getting another stock set and keeping Avon Azarra/Storm one one and TKCs on the other. I want to go to some Adventure rallies and would like the option of swapping out to knobbies to ride the technical trails.

Well seriously i have my doubts about putting a 17" front on the mag wheel model, they steepened the head angle on the later 955 and i'd say with a 17" front could be very interesting boardering on unridable, but as they say there's only one way to find out.

CSA the old Dymag, sure ain't going to waste their time(at the moment) doing a single custom wheel,i'd say your only option(and the cheapest) is to find a Triumph wheel that does the job,the hard part will be finding a.n. other that knows.

I started with having a 17" front rim laced on a spare front hub and a 51/2" laced on a spare rear.

Then went to Dymags to avoid the hassle of tubes,oh and changed the colour!!

ok, Let's see if I'm understanding the geometry correctly. The 2001-2004 Girlies came with 28 deg rake and 92mm trail, the 05 & 06 models with cast wheels were 25.8 deg rake and 92mm trail. Putting a 17" front on a 2006 will "tip" the bike forward slightly. I'm no math wizard but it seems to me that a 17 would change the rake to between 24.5 to 25 deg. This same forward pitch might change the trail by a couple mm too. So for poop and giggles lets say 24.5 deg rake and 90mm trail.
My old CBR600f2 had 24 deg rake and 96mm trail. I'm still trying to figure that one out because the Tiger axles mount on tabs which stick forward whereas my CBRs was in-line, at the tip of the fork. I can't see how the CBR had more trail than the Tiger, unequal triple trees maybe?
At any rate I can't see how it would handle that badly with that rake and trail. It would definately have very light steering, and I suppose it COULD be dangerously light. I've ridden choppers that had close to 40 deg rake and negative trail and they handled decently, slow to turn in but very stable. Maybe I'm just not getting it (and I probably WON'T go with a 17) and I would really like to have a better understanding of this. Anyone? anyone? Bueller?

What set me off on the 17" trail was the front tyre on a 19",7 years ago the choice was poor, hardly much better know, and i wanted the choice of sport or touring rubber,so i had a tyre that would stand up to a hard days riding.

Yes it does tip the front down a little, enough for it to require a shortened side stand,or be carefull were you park it.

With the smaller hoop on the front it transforms the bike,it's the only bike i've ever owned that will change line mid corner, (i also run a single cylinder supermoto),but from time to time can prove to be interesting, the extra rake on the later Tiger in my book is  too much, but if you decide to have a go,i'll be interested to hear how you get on

I'll probably not have a go at it. The price may be way too high (and I'm NOT talking about the money). If, after putting several hundred miles on the bike, I feel that I want more turn-in, I might bite the bullet and try it out. If I do the first ride would be on a closed course with an ambulance standing by.

You can get more turn in,by dropping the forks through the yokes(most do),maybe i was ahead of my time doing mine and looking at the  Multistrada/1050 Tiger/KTM SMT,you want serious front end grip,it's got to be a 17" tyre.

Timbox2

When I picked my Tiger up the other week, the previous owner had already dropped the forks by about 15mm, Ive just put them back to standard as it felt a little too nervous for me, but being a totally different ride to my last tractor, I may drop them again when Ive got used to her.

What front wheel is on them now?  and ... so myself or some other newby does not get caught in assumptions ? Do bike rim sizes list similar to auto or do they us  backassward number system where smaller is larger?

Figures are all over the place, when a Tiger is delivered from the factory the forks are dropped through the yokes, years back there were folk riding like that as the shop hadn't altered them!!

When on a visit to the factory,on a nudge nudge wink wink system they suggested no more than 10mm on the wire wheeled ones,i tried mine at 10,but with a trail tyre knew it was all going to end in tears, and in the end ran them around 8mm.

The cast wheel bikes,as  has already been mentioned have a steeper head angle,so 15mm is a lot.
