Tiger 885cc 1994

Returned 28mpg after 105 miles of steady town riding and some longer runs.

Exhaust fumes smell quite rich.
Air mixture screws are 1.5 turns out.
After cleaning the carbs out last month i tried opening them out to get smoother running but it didnt like it so put them back to normal.

What can i do to improve the mpg and weaken the mixture??
does the mixture screw just serve the idle mixture?

sounds to me like you have leaking o rings on the float assembly's
is there gas in the airbox

how is the oil level ...more in it than what you filled it too ?
seriously check if the oil has gas in it  you may have leaking float assembly's if it is that rich
those mikunis are happy happy at 1 1/2 to 2 turns on the pilots and there should be 105's in em for main jets

even when flogged hard at 80 mph or better for extended periods you should be getting at least 35 mpg (us Gallon)

thanks mustang

the bike did have a fuel leak from the float bowls (previous thread) and i sorted that by setting the float levels to the standard 14.5mm as they were high and flooding.
since then its not leaked gas into the airbox.

Will check the oil level and see if its creeping up.

would lowering the fuel level in the bowls help?
