I just installed a new battery, the cockpit lights came on, but then it all turned off.  I have checked polarity of the battery, and it is ok (and I hooked it up correctly and tight).  The clock functions, but nothing else.  The fuses are all good, including the main one on the left side of the battery.  I see on the websites that some of these Tigers have an optional disabling feature (called "immobiliser"), but I don't have an alarm key fob (used bike, but the guy before never said anything...)  It ran fine before the winter, but the battery died and I just never got around to replacing until now.  Any ideas before I trailer it to my dealer?   :(

ok, well stupid me!  After double checking the voltage on the brand new battery, it is toast.  ...last time I get one from Batteries Plus without having them put it on a meter first.

So I  take the battery back to the store, and the guy says, "well, it's showing 10.2 volts, so the battery isn't bad, it just needs charged."  They keep it all day, and then call me to tell me the battery is indeed toast, and will not hold a charge (which is what I told them in the first place).  

They gave me another new one, and the bike came to life fine.  I am not an electronic specialist, but I'm thinking that a cell shorted out, which is why it initially brought the cockpit lights on for about a half second, and then all went out.  Even with my charger on ithe first (bad) battery,  I could not get more than the oil and neutral light to come on.  Anyway, it's up and running great now.

Its always crap when you replace a part you think bad with another part that is bad.  You just keep telling yourself "it must be something I have done wrong, no way a new part would be bad".
