Cooling Fan Cross-reference?

I think my cooling fan died.  It is no longer coming on and I heard a disturbing squeak come from that area a few days ago.

I'll check fuses and relay tomorrow.  Bike bandit shows a price of $300 US for a fan assy.  That looks about 5x above reasonable.

Does anyone have a cross-reference?  I know plenty of guys who used computer fans on dirt bikes with good success but the air flow would not be enough for a large rad.

I found a suitable replacement from Spal, the company that makes the Triumph ones, for $90 delivered.  I will fab the necessary mounts.

I also found a couple of used ones on fleabay for about $50 + shipping.

Spal's are quite common on smaller EU cars, particularly those with side mounted rads, might find something in a breakers if you are on a budget. Then again US$ for a new original is not bad money at all.
I used to have long hair, took acid and went to hip joints. Now I long for hair, take antacid and need a new hip joint

Fortunately, my bike does not overheat unless I'm stuck in traffic for a long time on a very hot day.  Takes about 15 min at idle to rise enough to close fan relay.  So I'm in no real hurry to replace.  Since I have to drop the radiator to get to the fan, I want a new one on hand before beginning.

My logic is that it is better to spend a few more $$ on a new fan that I may have to make a simple mount for than to buy a used part from fleabay.

My budget is really tight because after being unemployed since Jan, I finally found a new job with benefits -- for half my previous pay.  At least it's full-time, year round, with bennies.  In the construction world, that's a rare thing these days.

This and a fuel sender have been my only failures in nearly 20k miles of riding.  Pretty good IMHO.  My logic is that if I were in the middle of nowhere on a RTW trip, neither would have side-lined me.  Helps me keep perspective.
