How farkin' much torque must you use to keep the chain tensioned? I cannot seem to keep it at 1 inch of flop.

Your not giving us much info but, DO NOT Overtighten the eccentric adjusters, 35Nm is correct, any more and you risk a new swingarm. If your chain is constantly going out of adjustment you probably need new chain/sprockets

Bike on side stand ...

Adjust chain in neutral
Set it at 1 1/4 =1 1/2 inch with no one or luggage on bike
If your chain is good you'll never have to adjust
It again
But if it varies Everytime you check it your chain is toast
Stretched uneven links

A tiger chain will last about 10 k if you give it zero maint. (Been there done that )
Much longer if you lube it once in awhile
