Title: Concerning the Datatool Alarm recall.
Post by: metalguru on January 26, 2017, 04:58:22 PM
Seems there is a fault on certain Datatool alarms, should only concern Explorers.

https://www.datatool.co.uk/safetyrecalls4/

not only the explorer but my 2012 tiger 800 road flagged up,
already had a replacement, but the replacement is the one that flagged up,
read the article for alarms fitted below is a small bit of the said article

Step 1 – Identify the serial number
The serial number consists of two 8 digit numbers separated by a hyphen e.g. 02000140-31150001

The first 8 digit number before the hyphen indicates the alarm product code, in the above example 02000140. The second 8 digit code after the hyphen is the production sequence number, in the above example 31150001.

The Datatool S4 Red product code is 02000140, the Triumph branded alarm product code is 02000240.
Please note: No other alarm systems are included in this recall campaign.

Step 2 – Identify the year of production
The 3rd and 4th digits of the production sequence number after the hyphen indicate the year of production.
Example: 02000140-31150001 would be an alarm manufactured in 2015

Only certain alarms produced between 2013 and 2016 are subject to replacement so if your alarm has anything other than 13, 14, 15 or 16 as the 3rd and 4th digits this recall campaign does not apply.

Step 3 – Identify the week of production
The first two digits of the production sequence number identify the week of production.
Example: 02000140-31150001 would be an alarm manufactured in week 31 of 2015

The applicable production ranges are;
2013 – week 13 to 50
2014 – all alarms applicable, week 01 to 51
2015 – all alarms applicable, week 01 to 51
2016 – week 01 to 08

Hmmm, my 955 Tiger had a replacement S4 Alarm in 2015 before I bought the bike but the serial number of mine doesnt follow the 8 & 8 format. Ive emailed Datatool to ask if mines affected but in truth Ive been meaning to strip the thing out anyway, its bound to fail at some point like it did on my last Tiger.

Well I tell you what, Datatool are on the ball with this, or theyre really worried. Ive had 2 emails already from a Datatool guy, one just now at 9PM and hes replying from a mobile. Looks like my Alarm, although fitted in 2015, is actually a 2005 model Triumph had on the shelf

I've only had dealings with  Datatool alarm once which I documented on here. Basically it torched itself.  I think that was around 2011.

Me too, and mine was also 2011, in fact 22nd April 2011. Rings a bell now that we both had alarm issues around the same time. I know the date as I took photos of the bypass plug I wired up to help others in the future. I will probably be referring to it soon when I strip it out. So BB, has your Dora not got an alarm?

Nope, but if it had I'd have ripped it out and put it on ebay.

It has an immobiliser chip in the key now though, similar to my 1999 model Blackbird  :icon_rolleyes:
