Title: HELP! Stock exhaust in the way of stock (?) Center Stand!
Post by: Dev_1 on January 05, 2016, 04:57:08 AM
Happy New Year everyone. :party

I finally got a hold of a center stand off fleabay. Looks stock to me. I am having one hell of a time installing the right mount though, because it seems my exhaust pipe needs to move forward about an inch to clear the CS mount. :BangHead
What is going on here?!

Please help.

Love always,
Dev1

We are going to need a photo,my stand has been on both my 885i and my 955i and just fitted straight on.

I've trawled through my photobucket stuff and this is the only one that may help.

Isn't is so that the earlier Girly's have a collector box under/behind the engine while the later ones only have a pipe going from the 3-1 to the muffler? So maybe they have a different center stand as well? Just rough idea, no time (or interest) to look into the details.

Nope, centre stands are the same for 955 and 855, I have a 955 stand on my 885 bike

So the other possibility is that TS did not recieve a Girly stand. Justs because the label says so don't mean it is so. Or is it?  :^_^ :^_^

@Dev_1, can you post some pictures of the stand? Preferably with dimensions.

Whoops... forgot to turn on notifications!

I REALLY hope I picked up the right center stand.
There's a good chance I'm just trying to put it on wrong.

Left side seems to match up.

Although as Chris says the 885 and 955 are the same, Im pretty sure the later cast wheel bikes had a different stand,I dont understand whats different, I would have thought it was just length of stand but maybe Triumph moved the mounting points ???

Judging by the exhaust TS has a spoke wheel Girly.

Quick glance at http://www.worldoftriumph.com/triumph-motorcycle-parts.html shows center stand that look identical for spoke and cast, but different then the one TS shows. Not sure if stand is different of just bracket 4 (http://www.worldoftriumph.com/triumph_motorcycle_large_parts_image.php?block_01=100&block_02=100059026-0-2&block_03=23772) is missing.

Yes, I have a spoke-wheel 2000 885.
The stand looks the same to me, but the mounts do appear to be different.  :^_^ :BangHead

Thank you for taking interest, gents

well looking on world of triumph, the part numbers for the centre stand and brackets are the same for the 885i and early 955i.  when the vin changed to 198857 then the part numbers change.

could the stand brackets have been bent or the collector box moved?

Brackets seem straight as can be. The collector box?... possible. The top mount of the box seems like the original position.
These brackets are supposed to be mounted on the innermost side of the frame, right? ie. not wedged between the outer frame and foot peg mount.  :icon_scratch:

Yes, on inside of frame. Can you not contact the ebay sellar and ask what year Tiger the stand came off, or whether it was spoke or cast wheel model?

That is why I have a piece of timber on the garage floor. Lifts the rear wheel half an inch which helps tremendoulsy in pulling it up the stand. When on the road I simply ask a fellow rider to pull the bike backwards when chain needs lubrication or so. Otherwise I just leave it on the side stand.

Never had a problem putting the tiger, trophy or sprint on their centre stands.  I suppose it's down to technique

My thoughts exactly.

I'll check to see which year it came from. Looking into getting new mounting brackets from the dealership... unless someone here can tell me how to mod the exhaust.

At least you have the advantage of having a good grip. I have the preload adjuster of the Wilbers shock fixed to the footpeg holder that dubs as grab bar. The edge is a bit sharp so sensitive to my sissy hands. Prefer using the lower bar but gives slightly worse leverage. But getting the rear wheel a bit higher by parking it on some timber does help quite a lot

Mine is a pig to get onto the centre stand because of the lowered shockthus a higher lift.  Lowering the stand is doable, but probably not going to happen....

Have a look at the photo I posted there's enough room on the ramp for the center stand but no where for me  :icon_scratch:,so it's the left foot half on and half off the ramp put my right foot on the center stand to square the bike up and then it's shit or bust. :icon_biggrin:

As luck would have it I've always found putting it on the stand a doddle compared to the balancing act I have to do,with a fully loaded tank bag and 55l Givi with at least 15k in it I rock it off the center stand and my wife gives it the final push.

So it seems that I've exhausted all reasonable attempts to find a right-side mount for the center stand I have or a center stand for the proper year. Even SW-Motechs don't want to ship to the US.  :icon_scratch:
I've found a local shop that will fab a small pipe for me that will bypass the box and route around the center stand bracket for about $100. With proper mapping, this may come out to be a win-win.
While I'm having him fab a pipe up anyways, I'm considering throwing on a blue flame can. This one is local and has been on the market for some time.  :wheel
Thoughts?

I contacted them about this one actually, and they verified that it won't fit my year with the stock exhaust. They are also looking for one with this wonky mount (pre 2001).

I am the guy that posted the prior video of "putting your bike on center stand". After doing a little research, I have found that my center stand is a SW Motech. My bike is 2001 and is not identical to your 2000. But, I do like the quality of the SW Motech center stand.

Yes, I've heard great things about it. Only if I could find the one for this year... :thumbsup

I have a 2000 885i Girly and ordered the sw Motech stand for the 955 which fitted fine, mind you mine has a Tor can and the collecting box has been removed.

Thank you John, this has confirmed my decision to remove the collector box. May have to re-gear so I don't lose any torque, huh?

Do you have the bypass pipe?? It came as a kit with the TOR pipe.

You will loose torque but it does pep the motor up.

I don't have a tor exhaust, nor the pipe. I hope to have one made for about $150 next weekend.

my collector box fell off this week when i fitted my custom exhaust.  I can see now why the stock 855i centre stand is PANTS
( centerstand,  :suckit)

This weekend, i can strengthen it up.

It's the pivots that are useless on the Triumph stand, get a SW Motech one loads better.

I have! and it IS!  :wheel  Unfortunately, I had to stiffen up my suspension because the center stand was scraping while cornering 2up. (bike is lowered)

Still fitting a blue flame exhaust on...while leaving the collector box in-tact. Will post a photo soon.
