Preferred dates
Option 1: 17-18 June

Option 2: 24-25 June

Ok guys, we have Blind Pugh assisted by Nick doing the Cotswolds for us this time. I for one need to get a peg in the ground date - wise. So here we go....
I might put a pole up if necessary but for now if you can just say when you can't do I'll give it a couple of weeks.
I can't do:
5-8 Jun
10-11 Jun
1-2 Jul
8-9 Jul
4-6 Aug
All times are currently good for me.
All dates good for me at the minute guys! :thumbsup
Weather wise... I think June could be a little more forgiving, Not sure about June 9/10/11 but can't do July 14/15/16 or 21/22/23. I'm basing this on the Fri/Sat/Sun pattern which a lot of us are committed to - though I'm pretty flexible myself. :augie
As I posted earlier I'm not here from the 19th July onwards so iif you want me organising it's before then please

Hi guys, :wave just been informed (by SWMBO) that some weekends in early July have already been booked up for me! :icon_sad: So that means I'm out for 30th June - 2 Jul, 7th - 9th July & 14th - 16th July. All other dates are good for me! :thumbsup (Unless told otherwise! :icon_rolleyes:)
Having retired last March I'm open to almost any dates. I do have some other trips in the pipeline.

Nope , just tree weeks in Portugal/Spain mate, on four wheels so I can't fall off. :cp

I did that last April in my Freelander2. It was great to get out on the dirt tracks and be warm, dry and have music.
Cant do... weekends 8/9 July or 15/16 July, but don't let me stop any fun ...
AW Pete!
Is it poll time? I nominate Sin to set one up :nod
A few not available on certain dates in July :icon_cry:
What about another month?

I was thinking June for that reason Mark.
Well that would leave me out I'm afraid, and as I'm the one supposed to be organising that may present a tiny bit of an issue
I thought you were away from 19 July John?
I am, but I'm also away before that too

OK, whats your availability - updated :icon_wink:
I'm around really just for the two weekends, the 8th and 9th and 15th and 16th, I could probably do the 1st and 2nd, at a push but that would cost me as I'm working at the Festival of Speed otherwise.
Same here, except for the FoS, nobody would employ me :^_^
Come on boys, sort yourselves out. :m
Its beginning to look like a none starter if our leader can only do the two weekends that it seems only 4 others can - but as we don't know how many are up for this... We need someone with a moderator hat, to set up a poll.
Assuming July is a no go, and having run through others limitations, it's looking like 17/18 or 24/25 June. If I've missed anything please let me know and I'll add it in.
I can do both, but I'll wait until the votes are in as I don't want to influence the outcome... if that makes any sense :m
Voted for the second date. Simply because my bike is in bits and the further away the more likely it is that I can go! :5moped

OK, I've spoken to Nick and Bixxer, this will be run around the Cotswolds somewhere, between us we'll get a weekend organised, I wont be there for those dates but something will happen, you will all get either printed maps of the route or GPS files and we will put up accommodation links at a later date. Please bear with us as this wont be until mid to late April. I can't get back to riding until the end of March after my cataract op yesterday, so I can't recce a route until then. Thank you for your co operation, now for this message from your sponsors...................... :wheel
Hopefully I'll have ridden the route with John and should remember where we are going too.
Voted for the 24th because I might be in Sardinia for the WRC earlier in the month.
Thanks John and Nick, I'm sure it will all be fine on the day.... what could possibly go wrong :bad

Sorry chaps but it looks unlikely that us little island chaps will be joining you.
We've got 9 days booked on the IOM for race week, and that's used up all my leave chits for the year I think :blah :blah :blah.

I should be able to make it for late Friday night, and head back home on Sunday on those dates. It may be getting a bit late for sorting out hostel type accommodation, tents may need to be deployed. Not sure what is available in the Cotswolds.

I met the chap who started ABR magazine earlier in Llandovery,Alan Davies. He was on his way down to St David's with a friend and their partners for the weekend. Had a chat, and I mentioned our meet. Apparently he lives in Stratford on Avon, and recommended we stay there? Limited campsites and expensive accommodation out of the town?
To make sure we've got a decent pub in whatever location you're looking at, you can use https://whatpub.com to check. e.g. https://whatpub.com/search?q=stow+on+the+wold&lat=51.93&lng=-1.72294&r=10&t=t&p=1&features=Pub%2COpen%2CRealAle shows the Talbot and several others as having camping nearby. :occasion14

Ok, noted I'll see what I can find.
Nick Carlton and John Stenhouse have the plan so an input on base location would be nice.

OK, listen up folks!
The route is set and we've checked it over seems good except for the amount of traffic on Fridays! The run is about 130 miles long contains two fords and about three miles of off road (all optional), steam trains, Roman roads, Trout farms, Ice cream vans, and National Trust villages.
It will start and finish in Lechlade on Thames, for which I attach the accomodation list.
http://www.lechladeonthames.co.uk/accommodation-3/
Sorry H, I wanted to put you all in Moreton in Marsh, or Bourton on the Water, but neither campsite wanted to accept tents! So it's Lechlade by default. Besides it's closer to Nick.
Any questions?

Is Nicks bike winking at me?
OK guys some Lechlade info. Lechlade is 12 miles north of Swindon. Has few pubs and a big bridge over the Thames. Not a huge place, with not much else there so our options are somewhat limited. In South of England terms there is not much near Lechlade in terms of other towns, Swindon and Cirencester are the next significant places of note.
Directions:
From most directions South, the easiest way to Lechlade is via the M4 J15 and up the A419
From the North West, it is probably M5 J11a then A417 via Cirencester and Fairford
From the North East it's the A420 via Faringdon. Nice route too if memory serves.
Bike Shops:
Your nearest triumph dealer is: http://www.bladegrouptriumph.co.uk/
Your nearest big motorbike shop is http://www.megamotorcyclestore.co.uk/
Accommodation:
There is a camp site, identified by John as being the most appropriate is: http://bridgehousecampsite.co.uk/ This is slightly to the south of the town over the large bridge. Easy 2min walk into town. Another place to stay would be: http://newinnhotel.co.uk/ Ivor and I have booked in here. It is in the town. Some availability left.
Otherwise take your pick from John's list: http://www.lechladeonthames.co.uk/accommodation-3/
Pubs:
There are several pubs in the town and given they are all fairly close together I suggest we try them all in due course. Apparently the Crown is the best for real ale.
Fuel:
Texaco north of the town. Maybe a half mile out of the centre.
Great job Nick! :>< I suggest those who are looking to attend this year's meet get to booking their preferences ASAP so there are no disappointments. :icon_cry: Here's to a successful Cotswolds meet! :occasion14

Sorry Nick, it's a no-goer this year, I've gotta spend a few weeks getting back into 'er good books after disappearing to the TT for 10 days. Weather permitting, I'm going to Lechlade tomorrow to 're-appraise' the local eating and drinking establishments. I'll write up my findings. I seem to remember that there is a particularly good one down the half a mile down river from the town and that you can walk to it easily across the fields that adjoin the river bank.

Gav you and the IOW boys will be a real miss. Given that you live on a postage stamp in The Solent, you lads are seriously hard riders. You were the only lads who made it for the Friday afternoon and did the long ride out on Saturday last year. Give my best to the lads.
Will do Geoff
I does get a bit boring over here, roads are crap and too many grockles. We need excuses to get over to the big island a bit more, but unfortunately this years meet is just a bit too close to our TT trip to negotiate another weekend pass. Al and Ted are both coming to the TT with another couple of chaps tagging along.

I seem to remember that there is a particularly good one down the half a mile down river from the town and that you can walk to it easily across the fields that adjoin the river bank.
We've heard this before at the first meet. 2 miles along fly infested bridleways and across wheat fields we found the pub. :nono

The pub Nick is referring to is called the Trout. Is was an option for the meet as they have a field in back they use for weddings, group meets, etc. unfortunately it has but one toilet, and no showers!
I thought you all might like a modicum of comfort in your camping field.
Could you put my name down for a meal (& beer! :occasion14) please Nick! 😁 :thumbsup

Should read....Beer, meal with beer....then more beer...+1 Nick.
I take it your booking a table for Saturday? so do we just fend for ourselves Friday??
I'm sure men of our calibre should be able to scout out beer & food on a Friday night Mr H? :occasion14 (Probably more beer than food though! :icon_lol:)
Been sick as a dog this weekend. Only managed 5mins on the bike up the road. I'll get over to Lechlade next weekend and find options for both days.

Been drinking out of damp glasses?
Pub ebola? No, not this time sadly.
Seems to be a manflu going around just now, I've coughing and spluttering fir nearly a week and I know umpteen others in the same condition. Get it over with before June :cp
I am just back from a ride to Lechlade. I have a few things to report. Firstly Mrs C can't get off the Honda as easily as the tiger and has fallen on her amply padded butt twice today whilst dismounting the bike. She is currently in a strop and it is all my fault.
Secondly I stuck my head in the pubs in town and they are ok.
The Swan Inn. http://swaninnlechlade.co.uk/
Is a much better looking pub outside than in but is nice enough and the owners are nice too. The food is pub stuff - chips and whatever - but is good enough and quite cheap, which I know will be a factor for some. I am a hyper critical pub / restaurant critic and I did not object to the food. They have a Yamaha FZ1 in the pub too. Which is a good thing in my view.
The outside

Despite the suggestion that English ales were sold here there seemed only to be a limited selection.
Well knowing that H isn't even going to come unless there is a proper selection of ales I went a little further and checked out the Crown. http://halfpennybrewery.co.uk/crown-inn-lechlade/
They have 6 ales, ciders and some lager stuff in a smaller pub which says on the door it is biker friendly and has live music.
I was going to suggest that we did the Saturday night dinner in the Swan then trundle down to the Crown for beers proper. There must be all of about 100 yards between them.
If everyone OK with this I'll book it.
The other options, and my reasons for not suggesting them are:
The Riverside Inn - best location but too touristy and corporate wank beer. Nice barmaid noted.
The Trout Inn - Cracker but slightly too far away on foot.
The New Inn - Some of us are staying there already, so in the interests of variety...
Restaurants - Khushi's - looked small and a bit crap. Colleys looked lovely and is where I think I'd go given a free hand but £20 plus for mains probably isn't what we want.
Excellent scouting mission Nick! :thumbsup Pity about Mrs C. That's a thumbs down in that respect for the Honda then! :pottytrain2 :icon_rolleyes:
I'm with you on the evening's entertainment, :iagree it all looks good to me, you can include me in if you need to book in advance. :occasion14
Well done Nick. Gets a thumbs up from me. :thumbsup :occasion14
Yup! I'm in. Thanks Nick... Dude :eusa_clap
Yes sounds good to me. Food then ale, nowt wrong with that.
Restaurant booked for 8 to 12 people at 7.30 on Sat 24th June.
I'll try and canvass for exact numbers vloser to the time.
Just to move the attendees list to the forefront again.

Can you book me in for food on Saturday please. I will be camping and will likely arrive too late to eat on Friday. I will get fish and chips on the way down.

Hi Alan, as far as I can remember, Mr Stenhouse was I/C of route mapping etc. :icon_scratch:
That's is of course if Sin helped him sort his new new sat nav out! :icon_rolleyes:
I have a gpx route from John. I am going to make a tweak and add on the bit to get us from Lechlade to Stow.
With any luck I'll do that tomorrow.
Then post it here.

You do realise Alan, that if you get to the bar first you have to buy all the drinks. :friday :occasion14 :wings
Here you go. John's route, adjusted to start and finish at the marketplace in Lechlade with a few tweaks to add a bit of further interest. A few points on features and progress...
John has found us a cafe by a steam railway place to have a cuppa on route. (gwsr.com - Toddington Station)
There is petrol in Lechlade and just outside Bourton on the Water (Slaughter Pike). We should get round on a tank.
There are few fords, plus the possibility of a bonus one at Turkdean, note the wrinkle on the route. We can just go straight if the water is not too bad.
Alarmingly steep right hand turn in Chipping Camden on to the High Street.
There is a short stretch of off road we can take south of Condicote which cuts off Upper and Lower Swell. Easy enough on road tyres.
I have bought a GPS so I shouldn't get us all lost. (Tomtom rider 410 - thanks for the advice guys) I'm not any faster though, or any less distracted by the scenery, or more likely to remember to turn my indicators off, so expect to queue behind and unexpected changes of direction as per normal.
Happy to edit if anyone has any bright ideas to include.
One million pubs to stop in if required. Be forewarned that in some Cotswold pubs beer is nearly at London prices. £5+ for a pint. So don't go ordering a round of Estrella's at £6.25 each for everyone without contacting your bank first. Not so in the Pubs in Lechalde though. Phew...
Not a mega adventurous ride but it is not the most mega adventurous area! Very pretty route though, stunning in places, through the best bit of the UK in my view. Cream teas are ubiquitously available throughout the trip.
File won't open with goggle earth :icon_mad: So I'll just follow you lot... It usually works for me :icon_biggrin:

Use Mapsource. Opens fine with that on my 'puter.
Hi H
I did use map source, I just cannot get on with Base Camp. Anyway I have recalculated the route manually, via Microsoft Auto Route, ITN converter and into Mapsource. Apart from one issue, the track between Cold Aston to Turkdean I think I am there.
Will now try to attach my route.

It seems from trying to download your route that you're using a VERY old NT v9 mapping in Mapsource which is probably why you couldn't open the .gpx file.
Mapsource and Basecamp are two different things. A .gpx file should just open with Mapsource without any need for modification.
There is a proper road from Cold Ashton to Turkdean to the North of the lane shown which I suspect nearly everyone will take. I put the route shown in to remind me to mention the off road bit. I did it on the steamer in the torrential rain on Sunday but it wasn't completely 'easy' on road tyres. Some people might like it. H will, Ivor will I'm sure. If it is dry we would all make it. Horses for courses. I think I'll be staying on the road to the north though. My steamer is supposed to be retired from all off road duty.
The ford at Turkdean is not passable btw. Well it is, the track to it is not.
I rode most of the route on Sunday to check it over again, but the rain was so intense I went home after Turkdean / Hampnett. I'll double check the remainder at the weekend and make and final adjustments. as required.
PS Tiger riders are a diverse bunch! Trying to make sure there is something for everyone. Pillion carrying people, on road, offroad.

Probably even older than my Ordinance Survey map.

Hi Guys, :wave Ok, travel plans for PeteH, Jaydub & myself for Friday are as follows:- Meet up with Pete & Jaydub at Quatford Café @ approx 11:30. http://thefoodstop.co.uk/contact.html (Possibly a little earlier dependant on Jaydub's initial departure time. :m) Fill up bellies on breakfast / brunch, then a steady ride down to Lechlade via Kidderminster, Worcester, Evesham, Stow & Burford. (Unless other routes take our fancy) Stopping off for refreshments en route. (Tea & cakes for Pete of course!) :nod
If anyone cares to join in the convoy, just let us know before the day and we can accommodate to suit! Otherwise, we'll see you in Lechlade mid afternoon for a beer or two! :occasion14 :thumbsup

Well the weather has turned on us. Forecast on TV this morning is for blustery with showers on Saturday. Bring your waterproofs. :m
Normal Tiger triple weather then... Get the temperature it was the day before we all set off, deduct 10 deg C, add rain and wind. Then add more rain and deduct a further 5 deg C.
