Poll
Question:
With the peripheral, flimsy and possibly reversible agreement to go roughly to the Devon end of the country for our annual TT trip, we need to determine when. If you have a preference for which weekend in June please express it below good sirs.
Option 1: 1st-2nd
votes: 0
Option 2: 8th-9th

Option 3: 15th-16th

Option 4: 22nd-23rd

Option 5: 29th-30th

Shall we have a vote on the matter and see what happens? In the spirit of Jon Snow on channel 4 at election time...your candidates are:
1st-2nd June (UKIP) - Likely to be very popular in Devon, no idea what will happen after a vote. May involve casual racism.
8th-9th June (Lab) - Utter madness, start to finish, bitter recriminations and 10 years of austerity to follow.
15th -16th June (Lib) - Middle ground, might be boring. Unlikely anyone will vote for this option.
22nd-23rd June (Cons) - Trip likely to cost more than you are told. If someone's bike breaks down you get means-tested as to whether the group will help you fix it.
29th-30th June (DUP) - May result in heated arguments about border crossings, followed by a parade through a non-motorbiking part of the nearest town.
:icon_lol: like it but anyway back to the task in hand. Can do all of June but around the middle would be preferred. About mid point from getting the bike on the road after 2 years and the family holiday mid August.
Gone for 8-9 but can do any apart from 22-23. :thumbsup
BTW, Father's Day is on the 16th if that's an issue for anyone? :^_^
Would it be advisable to contact the venue HockleyBoy suggested to check availability first?
Threepot, just checked their website. There are 10 rooms on a b&b basis, 38 bunkhouse beds and room for 75 tents and 10 motor homes! To book rooms you have to email with details which we don't have until people pick a date and confirm their availability. You cant book camping. It's pay and play on the day. I'll call tomorrow them but I'm sure it'll be fine whenever we go. Pick a date! :occasion14
Just gonna sit on this here fence as anytime in June will do just fine :thumbsup
My sister gets married on 15th in Devon, so will be there anyway. Mrs L's sister is also expecting us in Southend the same weekend for her wedding anniversary, so I think I'll be a little too busy to ride anywhere.
I'll just see what the majority comes up with & negotiate a weekend pass if I can make it.
I have spoken to the Plume of Feathers. If we want to get a group booking in for say 10 in the bunkhouse and a couple of campers it would be useful to get our booking confirmed by the end of next month. At present there are no substantial bookings and we are free to choose.
Cant do 8-9th (Cadwell Park) but ok otherwise.
So far we have the 1 - 2 and 29 - 30 that all who have replied can attend... cant see the vote so cant comment on that.
I can't do 1st and 2nd
Can't see the vote Pete? :^_^

Because I didn't click on the see results button :*&*
Plus the vote doesn't reflect the dates that people can attend only their preferred dates...so we may need a second vote :rfl

Anyone unable to do the 29-30th?
Also would anyone like to plan or help plan the ride out route? I don't mind popping down to do some research rides if anyone is interested in coming along.
If someone lives nearer and can do it all that would be excellent.
No dissenters. Shall I book it up?
Let's do it! :occasion14 :thumbsup
Which weekend are you going for Nick?
Book that date Nick? We can plan some rides after? Plenty of nice roads around there..
I know a guy on the Hinckley owners club that lives in that area. Maybe he can help? I will contact him.
29th-30th Gav. Is that ok?
I can't do that weekend.
Don't worry cos in June, every weekend there was always at least one of us that couldn't do it, so i think we're gonna look at going somewhere in July or Aug.
Make sue you post some pics.
:thumbsup
Pity! It would have been good to catch up with the IoW crew. :occasion14
So just to be clear, it's already been decided that it's the 29-30th June at the Plume of Feathers in Devon. Yes, correct?
It seems the day people could do... the most inclusive option.
I don't know by what process it formally gets decided other than we all agree but yes the current proposal is 29/30 plume of feathers.
Im in :thumbsup

Wales Gav?😉 I'm up for it!
If all is ok , I will turn up and pitch my tent. I cannot commit that far ahead at the moment. I have friends in Somerset, so I can see them on the way if time allows.
Don't count me in ,but if possible I may just turn up.
Do we need to get booking? are we doing it as a group and if so there`s two bunkhouses, trouble is with the old bunkhouse is that you have to provide bedding so maybe the new one if everyone`s up for sharing...

Chester RAT are staying at the Union Road Moto-Velo in Crediton over May bank holiday so will be doing a bit of riding in the area. Will have a word with our ride organiser as he uses and tweeks routes on a ride page or something, always comes up with some nice roads :nod
I'll phone the Plume of Feathers and ask Pete.
Good work on the routes. If you have a look at ABR they have some routes in their collection. The best one seems to be the coast to coast dartmoor to exmoor one. If we did that sort of thing it is coming out at 150 to 200 miles. Perfect length for an all day ride out.
I'm out, the missus has booked the holiday so I won't be able to make it.

same here... Except for the friends in Somerset bit.
Bunkhouse for me.
Gentlemen, a short update.
ACCOMMODATION
I have booked and paid the 50% deposit for the Plume of Feathers in Princeton as follows:
People who asked for the bunk house... Ivor M, Mark R, Pete H
It is £25 for the first night and £21.50 for the second night each. Hope this is OK with you.
London Phil who wants camping (pay on arrival apparently £8.50 / night)
Spud is camping too
Chris TR and I decided on B and B rooms over a beer last weekend as we both spend a lot of time away or on long journeys and can't be doing with discomfort....so we went with one room each! Also aware of just how much Pete snores.
ROUTE:
ChrisTR and I are going down there on Friday 3rd May to check it all out and try and determine the route. Anyone else fancy a recon mission?
OTHER PEOPLE:
Sintiger has one million people visiting in June and July so will only know if he can make it at the last moment. He's happy to camp.
JayDub will not be able to commit until close to the time either and will camp if he can make it, same goes for Geoff W.
John Stenhouse hasn't decided if he wants to come yet. I'll be seeing him on Thursday and will apply the thumb screws.
I will speak to Howard (blacktiger) later on today.
Aesdj, Mart and Hockley Boy - are you guys coming? Hope so!
OUT: Lee337 - family holiday, GavD, Mo, Ted - stuck on the island.
I'm going to play it by ear for now. If I decide to go I'll sort some digs out somewhere, somehow.
I think you have me confused with Ivor :sleepy1, also keep an eye out for Chester RAT on the Friday as we're in Crediton that weekend :wheel
Me, snore??? :sleepy1 How very dare you! :icon_eek: :bug_eye
It's just the beer relaxing my vocal cords! :rfl :thumbsup
Booked the Plume, as I'm a working man now.....
I'm in as long as the missus can come. any objections?
Anyone else fancy coming along? :^_^ :wheel
Hi Chaps, sorry for the late arrival. I can't do the last weekend in June because I have been pencilled in for my Knee replacement on the 28th.

Sorry to hear that Blacktiger. :icon_frown: But for the best i'm sure! Here's to a speedy recovery! :thumbsup
Anymore for anymore ladies & gents? :m
Still haven't got a receipt or written confirmation from the plume of feathers.
Called them 3 times are we are confirmed just nothing to show just yet despite my £176 deposit for us.
I booked after you all, and have heard nothing since.
It was the same when we went to Ireland. The B+B in Scotland took the booking, and that was it, so maybe its not as connected, I'm sure the credit card machine was on a dial up modem....
Phil you need to get out of London more often. A lot of rural businesses around here don't take debit or credit cards as they cannot get a link to the internet. It is cash only once you are out of the towns and villages.
As I'm likely to move to Somerset or Dorset in next couple of years, I need to know this stuff. I hear people on public transport talk to each other...... getting cold sweats just imagining it.....
Well I have had a couple of chats with people about a route or the potential routes we might take.. This is the rough proposal and summary:
Friday - Ivor and Pete are coming down from the North and will meet Chris and I coming West from Wiltshire. The rough plan is to run along the north coast road which is great, then drop down into Dartmoor. Mostly fast A road stuff. Anyone is welcome to join the entourage. The rendezvous point is yet to be set but Chris did volunteer bacon sandwiches at his house just off the M4, J17, alternatively Fowlers in Bristol would be a good place to meet.
John Stenhouse and his missus are coming now so they'll probably join the party, Phil, Mark, Spud how about you guys?
Saturday - I did some research and picked up ABR route 45 which is in Dartmoor. I added some bits to give it some length and came up with the attached as a first stab. I think there is some refinement to be done, but as a start it looks good. Some tight lanes, some open roads across the moors, some sights, lots of tors, lunch in a castle. You can whizz round the KML file on google earth and get a feel for things. The route includes the usuals including Postbridge clapper bridge, Haytor Quarry, Widecombe in the Moor, Castle Drogo, Lydford gorge and Brentor Church Petrol in Bovey Tracey.
Sunday - I was thinking about whizzing down a little deeper into Cornwall perhaps Boscastle and Tintagel before heading home but that might not be convenient for those living many miles away.
Please let me know what you think.
I am looking at this, got family over from NZ at moment and also have a ich that won't go away called the "Lofoten Isle" I have an urge just to pack bike and go, I'm also looking at Spain later in the year. So will give you a shout soonest
cheers Spud :rrr :thumbsup
Looking good Nick, we did Dartmoor this weekend..well more travelled through, stopped at Warren House Inn for a warm, also most of it is 40 mph.

Imagine that, the great unwashed talking to each other....
It's getting close guys. I popped down there (3hrs away!) to check that the route wasnt completely cobblers. Rode a bit of it. Seemed fine. Got cold for some reason, ventilated leather working too well I suspect, and came home.
The Plume are expecting us that have booked and there is still space for others in the bunk house and camping.
One good looking barmaid detected. She was daft as a brush mind.
Plenty of beer choice but nothing that fancy or noteworthy. Think Jail Ale, Doom bar etc...maybe 6 to chose from plus lagers.
Food is basic pub food.
Views where amazing though. :occasion14
Chain checked and lubed......
Have fun chaps.
it's a trip to the theatre for me.
I know where I'd rather be :wheel
