Title: which is the better option low mileage or service history???
Post by: Bakerboy on September 19, 2011, 12:55:33 AM
have the chance to view 2 x tigers both 2004 cast wheel models, one has covered 24k with loads of farkles, the other is a low mileage 9k but with some marks on the engine casing, which is more important, service history & maintenance or low mileage, for the record both are the same price

24k is nothing ....buy the one that speaks to you  :D

Ive just p/x'd my 04 Tiger with 50k miles on it, running better than ever, and I may be biased, but looked better than some Id seen with half the mileage.
Personally Id rather buy a bike thats been used and looked after than one thats been sat in a shed half its life, but we are all different, for some low mileage is everything.

The 24k bike with Farkles sounds like a loved bike.

When folk talk about service in my book all I'd be interested in 'Has the oil been changed' as for big service it won't make any difference because I assume you'll strip the bike anyway,K+N,blanking plate, fuel filter,I'd have the latest tune put in at a dealer as a starting point, and even if the guy had said he'd changed the oil yesterday I'd still change it.

I notice it took two posts though.  The old, "I've told you what to look for, look for it yourself" approach followed immediately by words to self:  "Don't be an arse, you know what to look for so will take you half the time..." follow-up.

So long as you keep on the mag wheel Tiger route I can disclaim all responsibilty,I'll take a wire wheel version every day you can do a lot more with e'm and they've got a better swing, but you can turn up and I'll talk to you about the joys or is that pros and cons of should I buy a KTM690 SMC were 40 years of bikeing logic tells me it's a baaaaad idea  :D ,were the sensible thing is to go and buy another 955 Tiger and moth ball it for a rainy day, wire wheel of course

Chris, having had a Thunderbird with spoked wheel's,I never had time to ride, spent more time trying to polish Trumpy's rather poor attempt @chroming rims & other fitting's I decided feck that if I can get a cast wheel model then I will,as for chatting sh*t about bikes I already do that,at home,at work,on forum's & absolutely love it :headbang

If I had 3 grand to spend on bikes,I'd have bought that black Tiger off here for 2 and the grand on another bike,it takes all the pressure off 'Must have it on the road',it's one of those things never spoken of,but have a look at the number of folk on here who run more than one,but as simple as it sounds it's taken me a life time to work that out

Black 1 is on ebay,I have been in touch & asked to view, but no reply, which is strange considering he sent all the images I asked for.As for two bikes,I would have to sell both to pay for the divorce costs

What when you could buy that silver one for another 600 quid, take a step back, take a chill pill and have a think, cuz your getting into full blown headless chicken mode and it'll all end in tears.  :) ,4 weeks from now you'll be freezing your knackers off and they'll be giving e'm away,or you'll be getting 'I'll wait till next year to sell' problem being it'll be another 6 months older and thye'll be cheaper anyway, untill you've spent your money your in the driving seat, after that your stuffed, calm down

+2 on that .... patience grasshopper.

I found my 2000 last January with 17k on the clock and seemingly well cared for (hard to tell at first but I've put 5k on her since and she runs like a top) with a few farkles. I paid a little under $2000 American at the time. Couldn't touch this bike for $4000 it seems from April to October.

Yeah I feel like I got an unusually good deal but I watched and waited for 6 months AND I would've taken a number of different years as well as the right deal on (GASP) another brand but I'm VERY happy with what I ended up with.

Keep your mind open and your patience pants on my friend .. the right deal will find you
