Title: Un-focused fuel guage
Post by: TeamGoof on January 03, 2012, 08:21:19 AM
Greetings to all.  i am a newbie to this wonderful world of Tigers.  I've had a 2000 Electric(?) in Scorched Yellow for about a year now.  H&B, Triumph top box, and Givi E36 panniers.  Darn thing made me a better rider!

Until I nearly run out of petrol, since the fuel gauge seems to be suffering from attention deficit disorder.  At random, it will indicate fuel level accurately, then decide that all fuel has evaporated when there is still a half tank or more aboard.  Other times it will not budge from E after a fill-up, or work perfectly though an entire tank.  Then sometimes it acts as if I have poured syrup in the tank and will sloooowwlly rise to full after a fueling.  This can take 30 minutes of riding.

Is this a common Tiger issue?  I have enjoyed the entire current list of postings on this great forum and saw nothing about fuel gauges.

Thanks for sharing all the other wonderful tips, diagrams and ideas for improving my Tigger.  I now have farkle fever.

Hello TeamGoof i had all of the problems you mentioned.

i took off my tank then drained the fuel and removed the sender unit, which is a float in a black tube which changes resistance as it goes up or down. i took it all apart and tightened up the contacts on the float, checked it with an electrical meter put it all togeather and also put a generous helping of sealer around the wires coming out to stop movment.

put it all together again and voila! never had a problem since

George

I can't believe you couldn't find any info on it
below are just a few of the links that go all the way back to when the site started

it's a very common problem it's been discussed over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over (http://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee47/2uoykcuf/emoticons/deadhorse.gif)

Many thanks to all.  Not only was this my first post to the forum, it was my first post Anywhere!   As my tank is just about empty from the traditional New Year's Day ride, I shall explore the joys of petrol tank removal.

The previous owner took a low speed dump or two, so the H&B is a bit snug on the old girl's flanks....
