Title: Meet Up 2012
Post by: aesdj on January 11, 2012, 11:19:35 PM
First things first, lets get some idea's of the best date for the meet.

So people don't have to read all the posts here's the info you'll need if you want to come.

Date = Friday 20th - Sunday 22nd July

Camping  = <!-- m -->http://www.masonscampsite.co.uk/ (http://www.masonscampsite.co.uk/)<!-- m -->
£10 p/n + £2.50 booking fee. Min 2 nights. Deposit £20. This price is not on the web-site so ring and tell them your from TigerTriple.com

Local Pub = <!-- m -->http://www.craven-cruckbarn.co.uk/ (http://www.craven-cruckbarn.co.uk/)<!-- m -->
Please tell me if you want a meal. Don't forget to double you meal ammount if you are bringing someone with you.
aesdj = 2 meals
aesdj = 4 meals
aesdj = 2 meals (Saturday only) and so on.

Saturday ride out = 10am start -5/6 pm finish.
This may change after I've ridden the route I've got planned (roughtly 120 - 150 miles). I've got a ford for us to ride through (puddle  <!-- s:lol: --><!-- s:lol: --> ) but I'm trying to find a better one.

Sorry guys that I didn't put a month down but the previous meets have been in July so I tuck it that the meets are always going to be in July.  If people would prefer a different month then just say and we'll go with the majority, also the dates are a Saturday.

Wife informs me that 2 Jun is the start of the 4 days of celbration for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee so it might be hard to fix anything that weekend. :?

Its also MOTOGP at Catalunya, as we are going.
I could make late June at a push.
Plus you`ll get all the bank holiday traffic, roads will be more busy/full of nobheads

Well done for getting this going guys.
I would have preferred it if people had the choice to vote for more than one date. Then you can choose the date with the most votes.
Having said that, the only date out of those that I can do is July 21st.
Cheers, H.

P.S. Jason, Will, don't forget to recce some nice wet fords. Just for uncle John from Nofuck.

Well Dilbert at the 2011 meet BlackTiger kindly volunteered me to arrange this years meet (cheers mate). As I'm from Yorkshire this is were the meet is being held. This is one idea for the camping http://www.masonscampsite.co.uk/Welcome_.html (http://www.masonscampsite.co.uk/Welcome_.html) and this is the local pub http://www.craven-cruckbarn.co.uk/pub.htm (http://www.craven-cruckbarn.co.uk/pub.htm)   . If you use this link you can see the site and how far the pub is from it. Don't worry everyone, its not as far as the 2010 pub   . This is early in the planning and this is what I've found so far but once the bikes on the road (1 April) I'll drive out and have a proper look and time the walk to the pub. These may all change as I've said this is what I've come up with so far.At the minute we our just deciding the date.

edit by mustang : link to pub website fixed

Looks good. Particularly like the pub. "Society for the preservation of beer from the wood" & 8 beers to try. NICE!
It's 0.4 miles from the bottom of the campsite to the pub. I think we can manage that.

Well if BlackTiger's giving it the thumb's up and he's a real ale man then it should do for all the drinkers of the group. I'll ring the camp site tommorow to check that they'll take 15+ biker's and e-mail the pub about meals etc.

I've been in touch with both the pub and camp site and the pub is fine about the numbers but it would help if they know before hand how many per night would like a meal. The campsite also said its fine but with it being in high season its a minimum of 2 nights. For one person in a tent it is £10 p/n and for 2 in a tent its £17 p/n.This includes all the facilities which to be honest I think we'll only need the showers. They will need £20 depoist per booking which can be done on line or over the phone. If people can say if this is ok or not  then we'll go with majority.

I was hoping to be able to close the poll and have a date to work to but as it is there's two dates with the same ammount of votes. June 2nd which is a bank holiday so the traffic could be a pain and July 21st. My plan from the start was to have it in July as the last two meets have been July. From now on and to make it easier for everyone maybe we need to make it the same month every year. How about we start a thread with a poll to decide which month from now on the meet will be held.I don't know how to resolve the clash of dates so any suggestions would help. For me the 21st July would be the date to use.

I for one will need feeding on the Friday & the Saturday night, so count me in for food! (& beer!) Hope we can bolt something down soon, can't wait!  :D

Cheers mat you've sorted it for me. Right everyone it's been decided we are meeting up on the weekend of Friday 20th - Sunday 22nd July. I've got a route sorted for the Saturday althought I've got to ride it and make sure it's not to long. I've not looked into fitting in a ford as yet and looking at the map of were we our I may struggle but I'll check out the web site blacktiger posted.

I'll get to it and come up with a plan and route from the southeast then. Matt, if I get us to Stafford can you do a route to the campsite? I think you're going to have some favourite roads north of you through the peaks. PM me with your exact location so we can have a coffee when we get to you. ;-)

So my route to mat-tiger1 comes off the M25 near Slough and runs close to High Wickham, Thame, Bicester, Banbury & Leamington Spa before running between Coventry and Birmingham. Anyone want to join the convoy?

I'll just tell 'work' that I really am off that weekend then I guess I'd better book?

doesnt look like theres much of a scenic route from me, probably like you BB up over Humber Bridge then york and harrogate... unless its a really nice day and I get up early and go via scarborough   :D

Coast road? You better check the campsite location again!

Anyhow, i`ve got permission from Mrs RF, just got to check at work.

And which part of the site we booking, looking at the website, there`s 3 to choose from?

I`m drawn to hiring one of the Teepees, saves bringing a load of stuff   8)

And anyone bringing their wives/girlfriends/partners?

I've posted a route from the south east on Tigerrides site where it can be downloaded.... http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/uk_ ... es/Routes/ (http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/uk_tiger_rides/files/Routes/)

Runs from basically the M25 across to mat-tiger1 in Cannock and up to the campsite from there. If anyone wants to join the convoy you can see where we're going. Just tell us where you'll join in.

Excellent choice of campsite and pub, I stayed there a couple of years ago when the couple who run the site had just got married, the pub food and beer is fantastic as is the barn and the location is great, isolated but everything you need is just a short walk away ( the pub ), only thing you need to worry about is the midges if you sit outside in the evening, take a hat.

I've been onto the web site and the price does seem to be different (£12 p/n + £2.50 booking fee)  from what she told me (£10 p/n all in). I've rung her tonight but there closed so I've left a message for her to contact me. Blacktiger, last time I spoke to them (January) she said there was no rush as it was so early but I think the sooner we book the better. I do intended poping in once the bike's back on the road (1st April) just to show that we won't rape and pilage the place   . As they want a deposit (2 nights min) off of everyone it makes sense for everyone to book there own place so Mat I don't think we'll beable to do a group booking. I'll tell her that people will use our web site name when booking so she can keep track of numbers and plan things. I'll posted what she's said as soon as.

Guys before we get carry'd away with the list and I know it's a pain but if we could put the number of meals you want after your name that would be great. This way it saves us having to do another one later for the meals.

The camp sites closed until 30th March so I don't expect a quick reply but as soon as she does I'll let everyone know.

Who's Going + Meals:-

Right lads I've spoken to the camp site and she apologises because it's a new web-site and the single occupancy cost is missing which she's going to put right asap. The price is £10 p/n and £17 p/n for two sharing plus £2.50 booking fee as I said in an earlier post although the booking fees new to me but it's only £2.50 so I'm sure we can all run to the extra cost   . Just a quick reminder that it's a minimum of 2 nights due to it being high season.
I've told her that anyone booking will tell her our web-site name (TigerTriple.com) so DON'T FORGET TO TELL HER,cheers.

I told the lady of the camp site that people would tell her our web-site name when booking, don't know if you can do this on line so your probable best ringing her. Also another reason why you'll need to ring is she's not put the single ocupancey price on there yet (as of the 3rd) so to get it for £10 p/n you'll have to speak to them direct.

Would it be a good idea to put all the details on the first page of this thread? I've checked the first and the last without success, so will now start trawling through the others to find out if I'm free to go wherever it is.

As it was such a nice day today and I had no work I thought that a run out was needed. I headed towards Hawes in the Yorkshire dales and suddenly realised that I wasn,t far from the site that you lucky people are staying at in July, so why not go for a looksee. I went over the top of the Dales N.P to Grassington and on from there. You,re in for a treat with brilliant roads and stunning scenery(I figured it must have been nearly 8 years since I was last down that road). I found the site ok and it looked as if they were getting ready to open with the grass cut and work on the gravel roads. The site goes down to the river and is in a beautiful spot and the pub is a 2 minute walk away with another one just a little further on. It looks like Jason has got it spot on with this one, well done mate :)
Just one thing though, it looks close enough for Jason to walk to in an hour or so

Just a quick update for anyone trying to book a pitch at the campsite by phone.

After trying repeatedly to speak to a human being instead of an answering machine over the last two weeks :BangHead  I got a callback to the voice mail message i'd left on their machine last week, kindly letting me know that the lady that takes the bookings wasn't very well & had been in hospital  :(

The person told me that although they couldn't take my booking themselves, they reassured me that my booking would be taken early next week by the usual lady who was now feeling a little better :eusa_dance

So hopefully, my next post will confirm a booking :?: (Fingers crossed) :thumbsup

I have been AWOL a bit.

:)

I take it that we are to arrive on Friday 20th July and leave on the Sunday?  And that we are to book in advance?

Apart from bringing our own food, does the campsite have facilities or are we eating at local pub?

Cheers.
Title:
Post by: rf9rider on April 02, 2012, 11:10:16 AM
Yup, arrive Friday, leave Sunday.
The campsite has a small shop, selling bread, eggs and bacon etc, but we`re eating at the pub at night, there`s a list on here somewhere to leave your name down for the evening meals as they require a rough list of numbers

You won't get much action on there. That site is pretty much defunct because the people who started it have moved on to other bikes.
I use it as a convenient place to hold Garmin .gdb files where other people, such as you, can download them.
You say "that morning". Do you mean Friday or Saturday? I think most will be arriving at the camp site Friday evening hence the two meals etc. being Friday and Saturday nights.

Hi, i have to work till midday Friday then straight to the rally from Solihull. I have booked two meals for Friday and saturday night. What about breakfast? Does the pub do these of have i got to bring the bacon and mushrooms and fire the stove up for tea and butties? LOL Also i will need tyres before the rally so my question is, how extreme is the rideout? Will i get away with the normal dual sport type tyres or will i have to order some TKC`s?

Hi crusty and nice that your coming along. Everyone will be fending for themselves as far as breakfast goes. Don't worry blacktiger does a mean bacon butty   . As far as the ride on Saturday, 80/90 % of it is on narrow single track tarmac roads. Theres nothing to stop and look at like last year, this ride is all about the cracking views. If you look at the first post on page one the details are there. I asked if anyone wanted any off road stuff but no one seened bother'd which suits me as my tiger doesn't like getting her feet mucky

So my guess is that you haven't had the Zumo long?

Yes, double click on the .gdb file and it'll open as a Mapsource document. Plug your Zumo into the computer and wait for it to be recognised..."bing, bong". Then click the "transfer to unit" button and watch it load. You then unplug and let the Zumo fire up then import the route. Done.
Sorry if I'm teaching you to suck eggs........ but............?
Title:

Thanks Blacktiger i will have a go at that later. I have had the Zumo ages and it is a great bit of kit, but not so good on what makes it run, Not happy with the constant need to upgrade stuff!! Why do you think i bought a steamer? Old school bike that you have a chance of fixing when i plays up. ( I hear they have fuel injection on some of these modern machines now??? LOL)
Will bring a cattering pack of bacon as i have been known to knock out a decent bacon and mushroom butty.

At the risk of being shot. Do I book and pay through the weblink or organiser? Ya, hey, I'm coming along again but won't be doing any heavy offroading. Last years collateral damage serves a healthy warning. 400lbs plus plenty pigs don't fly.

OK, I've booked. Very nice old gal who didn't know quite where we'd be staying, but knew that we were the "Tiger Club" and asked if I knew any of you by name so I could be matched against it and put in the correct field.

Apparently none of you have booked in under your forum names    and she was quite disbelieving when I gave aesdj as an example and made me look like a prat when she said pronounce it! But she took my bucks anyway. Business over, we had a virtual coffee and chin wag and mutually agreed that the Black Tiger must be the lead exotic dancer of the troupe

They do know we are a hairy biker convention, right?

Been out on the bike today for the first time in 5/6 weeks and I thought it best I went and booked the meals at the pub.

Friday 20th July = 12 places
Saturday 21st July = 13 places

They asked what time we want to eat so I said 7pm. If this is a problem for anyone, let me know and I can change it.

Finally managed to do the full route that I'm planning on taking you all on (still got rained on though) but it's only 108miles and took me 3h30mins with no stops.Add lets say 1hour for lunch and a start time of 10am that only takes us up to 2.30pm.With there being nothing of interest to stop and look at I'm going to look at adding another 60miles or so on to it which should take us up to around 4.30pm.I'll try and find somethings of interest to lower the milage.

There's one in Threshfield and Kettlewell and there both on the route at 4.7 + 10.7 miles from Appletreewick.I'll check next time I'm out on their opening times/price but it won't be this weekend unless I can graft some floatation devices on to the Tiger   .I'd say it's best to fill up once your near Appletree at a major town etc as your guaranteed it being open and cheaper than the above that are in the middle of nowhere.

Right guys, been out to the site today and everythings good. He's put some matting down last week when the weather was really bad but with the river drawing the wetness away and the sun + wind that we've had this weekend the grounds nearly dry. I asked if he could keep us near to the entrance to the field as mud and top heavy Tiger's don't play nice together which he said would be fine. If the field does become slippery he'll put some matting down just for us.

I believe PeterH was asking about petral. The one that is 4.7miles awey (Threshfields) is open Saturday 8am - 5pm and unleaded is 135.9 which isn't to bad really.

I'll ring the pub with final numbers Thursday and I'll confirm that 7pm is good for everyone.

If I've forgotten anything or you want some info on something just let me know.

Just been in touch with the pub and there's been some confusion about the booking  :x . I'll tell you all about it tomorow but the meal for Friday (12 people) is now at 7.30pm and Saturday (14 people) is 7.00pm.

Sounds OK to me. Reckoning on getting to the campsite around 5~5:30pm tomorrow.

I'm getting well pissed with the pub now. Just had the manager ring me back to say that they carn't do the times that I was told above. Even though I booked in person 3/4 weeks ago they classed it as not being confirmed  :? and the person should have taken my number for them to have been able to ring me. Seems like the 2 staff that I've spoke to don't know what they are doing. The manager couldn't apoligise enough but that doesn't help us.Anyway the new meal time is 8.30pm for both meals but they will try and get us in sooner if they can. Really sorry guys.

Sorry guys, it looks like I'm backing out.

Just picked up three new projects at work this week and its becoming plain they need attention this weekend to get off the ground.

Gutted not to go but roughly speaking this is going to keep 4 people in work for 12 months, inc me!

Great time in Yorkshire. Big thanks to Jason for arranging everything and especially the excellent route for Saturday. You couldn't have better "Tiger" roads to ride over.
So here are my photos.....

Drinking some diarhetic after coming back from the pub...

So the BIG question now is ; where to next year?

P.S. Nigels KTM picked up a rear puncture on the way home. After trying two cans of foam which came straight out of the small hole that they should have sealed easily we fitted a new tube.

Excellent shots Blacktiger! They really capture the spirit of the ride out!

& What's that you say, another puncture? There's sabotage afoot! At least the practice of helping to fix mine & Metalguru's punctures on the up to the way to the meet came in handy :!:

It was nice to see all of you guys again & of course nice to see some new faces too :D

I think everyone will aggree, a great weekend was had by all :!:

Like Blacktiger says:- WHERE TO NEXT  :?:  :?:  :?:
