Title: Tiger farkles on the cheap
Post by: Bob Tosi on January 30, 2012, 04:40:49 AM
Well lately I 've been into doing things on the "cheap"  Trying to save money you know.  So I wanted a nice sidestand pad with more surface area for when I'm out in the sticks.  This is what I came up with:

I used a peice of 3/16 aluminum scrap and shaped it, then got some metal compatable expoxy to attach it to the side stand.
A little hairball but it only cost me $5.

I got this fiberglass instrument case from work.  The instrument was shot so the case was free.  A little paint and expoxy filler, a nice new cheap top box that I can beat and not worry about.

Total cost maybe $10

Nice work, functional is the word, will do the job and that's the main thing. It's easy to get carried away and spend a fortune on farkles that won't actually do a better job than stuff you already have lying around.

Well first report on the side stand pad is that it SUCKS! It popped off today so I have to re-figure this out. Maybe it needs to have a hole drilled in it for some epoxy to grab onto? It popped right off when I put full weight on it.

I just carry a 4-inch diameter piece of aluminum in my jacket pocket and throw it down when I need it.  Mind you, I have left it behind a couple times and have had to make a new piece.
