Poll
Question:
Which weekend date suits most people:
Option 1: 12-13
votes: 1
Option 2: 19-20
votes: 4
Option 3: 26-27
votes: 10
To gauge what will suit our numbers, how far are you prepared to go. Using Gretna as the jumping off and refueling point that most people will use unless going up the East side.
This is just a rough guide to narrow down which camping, B & B and Hotel options I will look at. After that I will look at how many want to come earlier, stay longer or make a pilgrimage to farther flung places.
I'd be up for this mate

Me too, just as long as I can get a reasonable heads up on the proposed dates. :thumbsup
I'd need to give S.W.M.B.O. plenty of notice for extended leave of absence! :icon_redface: Lol.... :icon_lol:
That's why I'm hoping for a bit more guidance so that I can concentrate my efforts on locations.
At least my missus will be around for a bit of tea and sympathy :icon_wink:
Any where up the west coast is good for me, Applecross for instance :XXsunsmile

Giving this one a bump and will get it made a sticky. My no-go dates are:

I'm in for this.Already told the wife and got a weekend pass so BRING IT ON :eusa_clap.July 11/12/13 or 18/19/20 good for me as I tend to get the caravan ready late July for the early August holiday with the family.Think these dates sit well for Bixxer also.
It looks like the central Highlands then, hope that is good for the majority.
Now less like as good a time as any to start talking about dates. Let's get the ball rolling.
Another poll perhaps?? :icon_scratch:
Does that mean a new thread :icon_scratch:

Over to you Bixxer!!!
Ok, let's get the month tied down then we'll focus on dates, but be quick, we need to get this settled. Date suggestions, as per AESDJ are welcome.
Last weekend in July (25th-27th) or 1st weekend in August (1st-3rd) work better for me, but I can be flexible work permitting! :thumbsup
Hi guys, just found this thanks to Mat-tiger1.
My work roster rest day pattern looks like:-
Could do but would need extra days off work:-
June 21/22
July 19/20
July 26/27
Absolute best for me would be either:-
August 30/31
or
September 6/7
Any other weekend means I'm out I'm afraid.
Roll on retirement so that I can do everything all the time. :wheel

Oh, OK then. I voted August so long as it's the last weekend.
Just as an update, my wife has furnished Sin with some likely looking accommodation links, he's working on ideas right now while he's away (assuming he has internet access of course). We can't really nail the date until he surfaces again.
I pitched my vote for July as I think I'll not be back untill right at the end of June, that also means I should be there in August, so AC/DC :icon_lol:
Hope that means I'm not holding things up.
I think we'll be a bit late to book anything if we leave it that long. Lets get busy via email and I'll keep this up to date as we go.
That's a bit more like it :thumbsup
What say you to calling the month based on the votes by th 31st Jan latest, then we can get down to the nitty gritty of the weekend by mid Feb.
At the moment we are looking at base camp options in two areas. Great Glen and Cairngorms, thats West (Fort William up Lochness side to Inverness) and East (Newtonmore, Aviemore and Granton on Spey) for those directionally challenged.
Either of these two centres is going to be about 4 hours (a bit over 210 miles) ride from Gretna
Ride out possibilities to get your juices flowing :nod :-
West
I have a couple of ideas to the coast at Applecross and return by another route. Ride will be mixed medium speed A roads with about 20% single track, taking in some spectacular lochside scenery, yes even if it's wet it's still guaranteed spectacular :icon_razz:
East
My learned colleague has a few ideas in the pot, more of the same but mountain roads, perhaps over the Cockbridge / Tomintool road and Braemar.
We've been looking at accomodation, both B&B and camping in both areas (if you're really hell bent on fighting with midges)
Now all I have to do is find a ford and incorporate it for Bixxer's Bike Wash :augie

Your all scaring me with the midge quotes so for me Fri + Sat in a B+B is sounding dam good. I don't mind sharing to keep the cost down and to help with booking some were.
I'll be setting off early Friday so if anyone wants to get in touch to arrange meeting or planning the ride up then feel free. The more the merry I say.
Also for anyone traveling up from down south, I've got a couch and the living room floor you can use Thursday night (2 people max) and I'm sure I can squeeze 2 bikes into my secure shed (top locks and alarmed)
Bixxers Bike Wash :icon_lol:, love it.
I seem to remember that it wasn't MY bike that got washed. Ever. Was it H? :augie

+1 on the "Luxury" of a B&B after all those miles! I'll be prepared to share to lower costs or maybe there's a bunkhouse or similar we could find once the weekend is chosen?
I'd be up for a bit of company on the ride up, so maybe Gretna services could be a potential meet up place? Unless anyone wants to pop in to mine for tea a bicckies on the way up from the south & then we can all ride up to meet those further uup North? :-)
At least we've got some video footage of Bixxer's attempt eh H?? Lol...

Good idea Mat. A lad at works got big into walking the last 6 months and used quite a few Youth Hostels and they sound very fair being honest. Never used one but some are very plush and a good price from what he's said.

Anyone thinking of coming up on the Thurs after work (and doesn't mind a slight detour to the west coast) is welcome to stay over at our place, two spare rooms, big sofa and enought room in the garden for a couple of tents if we get that crowded.

Hi everyone, I've been off site for some time now so have only just caught up with this planned gathering. Sadly couldn't make last years meet so would like to join this one, especially in Scotland. I've a committee meeting to attend Monday eve where 2014 events for my club will be finalised. So I'll place my vote after Monday eve. I love Scotland so hope I can join you. Will there still be a camping option for this hardy idiot?
Great, we're endeavoring to have both Camping and Glamping options available where ever we end up with as a base.

I can still do the 26-27th it just means I'll have to get the caravan ready during the week after work. I'm 90% sure I'll be there so put me down and I'll make a final decision when your booking B+B/camping places.

I've been looking at how I'm getting to Scotland. At first I thought about coming up to meet Mat-tiger1 again but it looks better for me by far if I go up the A1 to Scotch Corner and from there go across the moors to get some nice roads in through Kielder Forest. I'm looking at two days from down here with an overnight maybe in Denholm at a pub that I've stayed in a couple of times before. Or Hawick. That does depend a bit on where the meet actually is.
So if anyone from the southern regions would like to meet at Scotch Corner and ride together from there, post it up or PM me.

& here:-
http://www.theargyllullapool.com/rooms.html
Both are in the current CAMRA Good Beer Guide. And, according to that guide, both do camping as well as rooms.
I have stayed at the Moorfield in 2009 to do the Scottish National Rally and it was OK.
Needs checking out because I don't see camping on those websites.
May be too far north?? :icon_scratch: However, being that close to the Highlands it's possible to do a route around the Highlands in a day. I know because I did it in 5&1/2 hours on the rally. Mind you, my average speeds were in the high 50s. :augie

Haven't looked them up so you might be ahead of me here, but when Sin and I were chatting, we thought somewhere Fort William - ish would give us the option to decide at the very last minute whether to run the route east or west depending on the weather. I had to do that last year because on the weekend we went, although we'd planned to do Applecross, it was pissing down on the West coast. We changed plan and had good sunshine by heading east.
Thanks for the suggestions, a couple I hadn't looked at.
As BB says, Fort William / Loch Ness side gives a better range of options. Applecross and Ullapool always get booked up really early and are not cheap options, although they do have great beer as you point out. The other thing to consider is enjoying a great ride rather than being tired after a long day in the saddle.
Problem with bunk houses is you need enough willing participants to make it worthwhile but I'm keeping an open mind for those that put their hands up.
We'll be doing the recce over the next couple of weeks, my wife thanks you for the added options to view / experience :icon_rolleyes:

Make a list of name's and just pick a date.
You gotta be firm or you will never it arranged as peeps will just say one or other weekend is bad for them.
If anything he's having a little poke at me :icon_wink:
We've settled on 26-28th July weekend, or longer if you like. Based somewhere along Loch Ness side between Fort William and Inverness.
My last count was around 8 bikes but as it gets nearer the numbers will fluctuate for various reasons.
And to add to that, and repeat what's already been said on earlier pages, Sin and I are deliberately making it harder for us (well, him mostly) by NOT having a fixed plan other than the date and finding somewhere central to stay. Because Scottish weather is both fickle and divided (usually east/west) we plan to leave the Saturday ride route till the last minute, maybe even till we're in the carpark with the engines running. That way we can head for wherever's got the sun, assuming there is some. The downside is Sin has to have at least two routes up his sleeve.
For now, just plan to be in central Scotland that weekend. Everything else will fall into place. Also, keep an eye on others arranging meet-ups en-route and you'll be able to link up and ride in with them.
This one's going to be like Appletreewick, I can't wait!

Hi Sin how's things going? Any idea's as to were we are staying as it'll be good to get it booked and for people to arrange routes/meet ups. OK Time to make a decision and start booking, I'm amazed at how quickly options are filling up for that weekend.
Fort Augustus
B & B is plentiful (at the moment) we checked out one of the bigger ones Corrie Laith (http://www.corrieliath.co.uk/) which had a variety of rooms, compact but all ensuite. We were told none of the local B & B's have a problem with Bikers, most have free WiFi and most are within 10 mins walk from the town centre. Average 25 quid P/P sharing twins.
The Campsite (http://www.cumberlands-campsite.com/index.asp) is within 3 mins walk of the town centre. It has Hostel (http://www.highlandbunkhouse.co.uk/index.asp) like facilities in addition, the facilities some hotels would be happy to have. The camp ground is spacious with plentiful showers and toilets, with heated floors! all quite new. There is a newly constructed club room / bar that will be serving local ales and hope to have live music for the summer. A hot breakfast can be had for a small charge for residents. Undercover Bike parking available. Camping 8 quid P/P, Lodge 23 quid twin room.
There are a couple of pubs in the town, some more in the hotels, most serving local ales and often have live music over the summer.
Drumnadrochit (30mins drive north from Fort Augustus)
B & B is adequate, the Benleva (http://www.benleva.co.uk/index.php) offering B & B style accomodation with WiFi. This seems to be a popular night spot and they are keen on their local ales, posibility of live music during the summer, about 7 mins walk from the town centre. Average 27 quid P/P sharing twins.
There is a small hostel but the facilities are quite basic and accommodation limited. Twin rms 20 quid P/P, 6 bed dorm 17 quid P/P.
The Campsite (http://www.borlum.co.uk/index.html) is a bit out of town, about 15 mins walk. It is part of a riding stables and although they have no problem with bikes they would have to be parked away from the campground which is on a hillside, quite small, two toilets and 20p coin operated showers only 2, no other facilities. Camping 6 quid P/P.
There are a couple of pubs in the town, reputedly quite lively at the weekends and a small supermarket adjacent to the coffee shop.
Single occupancy of double rooms is usually about 5 quid less than the full price.
I suggest all interested speak up by Saturday plumping for one or the other option and indicating camping or more salubrious accommodation to get numbers ready.
Lunch on the Saturday rideout I am proposing the Applecross Inn (http://www.applecross.uk.com/inn/index.htm). remarkable food at very reasonable prices. Again I will have to book as they do get very busy.
The menu is nothing short of amazing considering the location and as much is local produce as possible.
I can recommend the Duck Breast :nod
Put me down for Fort Augustus, the lodge sounds ok to me and am willing to share but will do canvas if no other takers, or will do B & B if anyone needs a room mate ( note...ear plugs will be needed :sleepy1)
Oh, and Applecross is a great destination only ever been there by car, any chance of photo shoot in Plocton on the way or way back ?
If camping , then Fort Augustus is the better option for me, tiny-tent will enjoy the view. At those prices i am happy to share hostel or band b. Hostel may be better for morning cat herding to get everyone together before setting off.
Thanks for the hard work Sin.
Agreed, Fort A is a no-brainer I think. Happy to B&B / share at those prices, lets get it booked, quick!
Fort Augustus for me too,
i'll be under canvas though, none of this sissy sharing malarkey :pottytrain2 :love10.... :icon_lol: :icon_lol: :icon_lol:

:iagree +1 :thumbsup Great work Sin :notworthy I'm bringing my son with me this year, so it's a B&B for me. :icon_biggrin:
Corrie Laigth sounds ideal. Do you want us to book individually or are you going for group bookings? :icon_scratch:
Also count me in X2 for lunch at the Applecross Inn! (Sounds lovely, but I doubt they'll have fish as big as that whale you had in Norfolk last year?)
I'll be looking to travel up on the Thursday & spend the Friday & Saturday up there, travelling back down on the Sunday if anyone cares to come along for the ride up/down? :icon_cool: :wheel

Fort Augustus base it is, 26-28th July mate, will you be ballasting the hack with beer as usual? The Corrie Laith has a BBQ hut in the back garden that is free to guests.
Please go ahead with individual bookings, I may not be able to keep on top of it once I start traveling again, assistance provided where we can of course. I'll alert the B & B and Campsite / Lodge, would pay to mention the group as Tiger Triple just so they have a better idea of who will be together.
I'm still on the look out for BB's bath :icon_wink: Plockton is possible (any particular reason?), we can adjust the route as needs.
Thanks for the quick replies :thumbsup
Fort Augustus for me and a room of sorts, not sure whether on the campsite or B&B tho' and Applecross for lunch sounds good too.
I'm OK with Ft. Augustus although there's nothing listed in the latest CAMRA Good Beer Guide :bug_eye but I'm sure we'll cope. :occasion14

A wise choice, I have stayed at the Fort Augustus campsite a few times and been very happy with it. No idea about B&B as I am not a southern softie. :icon_rolleyes: :thumbsup

Big thanks from me too to Sin for sorting the accomidation :thumbsup as for Plockton....why not? great little town with views to match plus a beer garden next to the Loch and a chippy if needed.

Just checking. Is it Cumberlands Campsite? http://cumberlands-campsite.com (http://cumberlands-campsite.com)
If it is, Google maps tells me its 537 miles from my home. A good days ride, I'll leave nice and early :thumbsup
Just to add my two peneth. Fort Augustus campsite/lodge for me and camping's my choice. Sin whats the plan for meeting at night as some people (Mat Tiger for 1) will be at different locations unless everyone agrees to use the campsite/lodge as that seems the favoured place and it has both options. Although I think Mat has booked in to a B+B already. If that's the case ignore the above. What times the ride Saturday as I'd like to get a full english order'd at the campsite/lodge.

All booked aesdj! But I'm sure the pub will only be a short taxi ride away! :friday :occasion14 :thumbsup
B & B's are around 1/2" a mile from the town and campsite, so 10-15mins walk at the outside, it's one of the benefits of this location.
Even Better!!! :icon_biggrin: Within staggering distance! Lol... :new_all_coholic

Yes, Cumberlands, if you're riding up on the Friday post up and maybe you can meet up with some others, takes the edge off a long ride like that.
Please make your own bookings guys, it'll be hard for me to keep track while overseas.
Can't believe it's still three months away.
I just had a look at the the Benleva website to see what Ales they had as a guide, they are now fully booked for that weekend :bug_eye, just as well we've gone for Fort Augustus then. It's an indication of how quick things are filling up, get your skates on :wheel
will be booking campsite this weekend, do we have to book meals at Applecross in advance ? I pretty sure I will be travelling up from Stourbridge on the Friday
cheers Spud :thumbsup
Once I have a total number, lets say by next week, I will book the Applecross, I spoke to them when we were up last week just to be sure.

I've just reserved a room in the Richmond House Hotel for me and a mate. Get praying for decent weather boys.
Quick update. Only 4 rooms left at the Stravaigers Lodge (http://www.highlandbunkhouse.co.uk/index.asp) due to there only being one building this year but still plenty of spaces for camping Cumberlands Campsite (http://www.cumberlands-campsite.com/index.asp) (both same location).
Ok, only 3 rooms left as I`ve just bagged one, anyone fancy sharing, oh and I`ll be travelling up Thursday 24th but will share Fri and Sat if you cant make Thurs
edit to add..... Ok just found my next victim room mate :bug_eye
That's me in too, filling up fast!
Having cleared it with Mrs X and given Sin a heads up, I've got room at chez X on the Thursday. Going on the premise that free board is always appealing it'll give our farther travelled folk a bed,bath/shower,blether and beers etc before meeting up with the rest of the guys the next day. Even those that are not so far travelled are welcome as we should be able to accomodate 5 or 6. Any more and we can pop tents up in the garden.
We're in Muirkirk so you can check it out on the map and if it suits your plans, give me a shout.

There is no need to bring any bedding as we provide all the bedding for your stay.

Could you PM me with your exact location please. I'll then be able to see if it fits. Cheers.
I'm thinking anyone coming across from the M74 along the A70, like XJC, can meet near Ayr. Then we'll go up the West over the Erskine bridge and meet up with anybody coming straight up the M74 - M8 (through Glasgow) on the A82 just outside Dumbarton.
On another subject, I think it might be a good idea to have someone as an "official photographer" if you like. A central point to coordinate and share stuff later as well. How is your young lad with a camera Mat-Tiger1? Seems the obvious choice unless you are not keen on him doing stuff on the move.
And lastly, If anyone wants to share (PM to myself) their email, mobile and reg number I will add it to the list (hidden on post ups) and share it with those traveling, it will also allow me to advise the campsite of the bikes coming in.
I am meeting up with Mat on Thursday and heading north, I think we are meeting up at a coffee stop on the way so as soon as mat drops me a PM I'll confirm my routine for the day

I put you down already Geoff, couldn't see you going hungry :nono
If you're going to take the A9 (slog and watch for the speed cameras) then A86 I'd recommend going cross country on the A923 via Coupar Angus and Blairgowrie, where you have a choice of continuing on the A923 to Dunkeld (A9) or A93/A924 to Pitlochry, A9 and then across to Spean Bridge along Loch Laggan side on the A86.
Alternatively you could head SW onto the A827 via Aberfeldy and along Loch Tay side, not the most entertaining road but spectacular views down Loch Tay towards Killin (falls of), pick up the A85/A82 towards Tyndrum. We could catch up with you at the Green Welly and go on up through Glen Orchy and Glen Coe, you have to ride through Glen Coe if you've never done it.
Ah yes Glen Coe,.....................last time on a bike was at about midnight it was pissing down and a coach came the other way and drowned me with a bow wave from a puddle............lovely place. :icon_rolleyes:

Meeting at the Green Welly? Along with half the bike riders in Scotland , the North of England, Holland and Germany as well as the local polis? Glencoe never fails to impress , even on a wet night, and I have had a few of those through there. Depending on the weather, if it is good and I set off reasonably early I may head up through the Cairngorms on b roads and then drop down the A86.

Now that I'm reaquainted with the tiger, I thought I'd check on progress, only to find that on those dates I'll be in Singapore. I'm looking forward to that too, but it would have been nice to join the fun.
I'm at a loose end next week so I may conduct a solo cross border raid then.
Enjoy the Highlands.
Bugger :icon_cry: If I tell you where I've hidden my key you could give my XC a blast while you're there, joking, my mate keeps the wheels from going flat.
Bring back some Bahqua for me and I'll square you up later, I'm out of stock. If you don't know what it is, ask anyone of Chinese descent where the nearest Bee Cheng Hiang shop is and tell them you have an Ang Moh friend that wants some :thumbsup

I'll ask the sister in law, they live out there. we've been out a few times, and it has to be the fastest changing city on earth. It's been a base for exploring the rest of SE Asia too, some great trips.
I,m really looking forward to this one, but wish it hadn't clashed with the trip north.
I may still head off solo. I never tire of the highlands.
Cheers. If you're heading North solo, don't mind company and I'm free I may well join you, any excuse :augie

Hi if any body going up on the Friday, would like to meet at Gretna services
Is this one big piss-up,or do you plan a bit of riding too? :icon_wink:
Hopefully piss up :icon_wink:
I'd say a boy of both. It's good to have a balanced diet.
Just bought a tent  I am making plans to come, but due to my type of work????? Every biker has got to do Scotland eh! Sleeping bag next. Bike should be OK..recent chain, sprockets, service. Running really nice. Had 51mpg up to the Carole Nash show recently in Stafford, and that was with a 17t front,so should get 55+mpg on this run with an 18t? Keep the usage down so I'll save the tyres. Could do without that expense b4 coming.

17t sprocket. Strewth most people go with a 19 . Then you will get high 50s mpg. Sometimes even 60+.

Make sure you get the pump spray clear/blue bottle and not the lotion, pink bottle. The pink stuff isn't the same and only works by sticking midgies to your body. The pump spray is the one you want.
Have a good trip I'm still hoping to get away. Possibly Monday afternoon now.

The Avon Lady knows which one it is, strangely in the US they actually market a mosquito repelling specific product but not available in the UK :icon_scratch:

Superb. I think I know how he feels from my last visit to Skye. I looked at the front of my bike at the ferry terminal at Armadale and you could've made a pan of broth from what was stuck to my fairing, lid and jacket.
Marmite works too. Don't rub it on though, have it on your toast. Vitamin B compounds make you less attractive to the little buggers for some reason. You still have to endure the same sanity testing harrasment, but with fewer bites.

My extensive research has revealed that the only place which has real ale and is Cask Marque accredited is the Bothy Bar, Canalside. http://whatpub.com/pubs/INV/29/bothy-bar-fort-augustus & http://www.beerintheevening.com/pubs/s/34/34171/Bothy_Bar/Fort_Augustus
The other option is the Lock Inn, Canalside. http://whatpub.com/pubs/INV/42/lock-inn-fort-augustus & http://www.beerintheevening.com/pubs/s/34/34178/Lock_Inn/Fort_Augustus
However, if the description in Beerintheevening is right and their beer is Tetleys I'd rather stick with the Bothy Bar. As they're practically next door to each other we can try both.
So, as we need a place to get together, can I suggest the Bothy Bar at 8pm?

Tinky Winky has already posted on FB that someone has stolen his portaloo but I think I managed to head him off by sending him to the Kwacker forum :icon_lol: as long as he can stand some obscure piss taking he'll be fine, we might even be able to convince him that he can have the same fun in comfort on a Tig as he can on the Zed.

Spoke to the owner of the lodge today, no rooms but plenty of camping space available and no need to book, I asked about midges and to my surprise he said there haven't been that many, I hope to ride Wednesday to Helensburgh to see an old friend and then on to F A Thursday morning.
Is there to be a meeting place once we get there or?, where are the majority of Tigers going to be?
Haven't formalised anything, any suggestions?

I'm sure Sin's got something planned for the run out on Saturday, hence the meal bookings for the pub in Applecross. :icon_scratch:
Has everyone got their names down?
I had only one planned ride on the Sat as initially most seemed to be coming up on the Friday, it's many pages back CH :icon_wink:
Quick recap.
Sat ride out starting around 09:00 ish depending on the level of Neurofen intake, going up to Applecross via the North route for lunch between 12-13:00. Then back via the Wester Ross coast route and Loch Carron and taking in at least one Castle. Then if there is an appetite for it after a refuel in FA, North again through Inverness for dinner on the East side of Loch Ness and an evening single track run on an old military Road back to FA forithe serious stuff.
Six more sleeps :-)

For those interested I'm meeting BlackTiger at 9am in Hawick and am setting off from Bradford at 6am. Knowing BT he'll have a cracking ride sorted from there to F/A. I'm doing the A65 to Kendle, M6 to Carlisle, A7 to Hawick. Not the best route but I'm on a schedule so can not mess about will the back roads. Don't mind meeting anyone who wants to join me, just drop me a line.
A bit more information for those who actually care about where or which way they are going, if not just ignore this.
Sat 26th am route from Cumberlands Campsite to Applecross for lunch - departing around 09:00 circa 105mls and 3.0 hrs not including any stops (fuel up in Fort Augustus please).
Sat 26th pm route OPTION 1 from Applecross to Fort Augustus - departing around 14:00 circa 86mls and 2.5 hrs stop at Eilean Donan Castle suggested (top up at Applecross suggested).
Sat 26th pm route OPTION 2 from Applecross via Plockton to Fort Augustus - departing around 14:00 circa 95mls and 3.0 hrs stops at Plockton and Eilean Donan Castle not included (top up at Applecross suggested).
Sat 26th eve route from Cumberlands Campsite to Dores for dinner and loop back to FA - departing around 18:00 circa 68mls and 2.0 hrs not including dinner stop (fuel up in Fort Augustus please).
The Plockton detour is open for discussion of course. Petrol is naturally cheaper in FA but due to the type of single track roads we will be traveling on the return from Applecross I suggest a few litres would be a good idea as the next sensible stop is Loch Carron and it's not a good road to push a Tigger on :icon_redface:
I will email the routes to those that I have emails for, anybody else who wants please pm me.

Yes the bikes sorted. Put a new inlet manifold gasket on it as there was light brown staining on 2 of the body's were they met the gasket and it looked wet so I thought that's were it was drawing air. Don't know if that was the problem because when I pulled the pipe off the air box to the ECU the rubber end came off of the pipe. When I stripped it over winter for its full service it may have been coming off then and that's why it started playing up after I put it back together but I'll never know. Silicone'd that back on, put it back together and now its purring.
Yes I know were meeting at the pub but thought there was no point going into too much detail. I've got the web site link you sent me so I'm going to get the post code from there. Hoping to be there for 9 so have the kettle on.

Right. Here's the news...
Both my businesses can cope without me for a few days as almost everyone is on leave simultaneously!

I have saved a few routes North from Gretna to Fort Augustus as a quick ref, anyone interested, ping me and I will forward them.

John,
Check out the Auld Cross keys Inn in Denholm. Me and Phones are staying there Thursday night and Jason (aesdj) is riding up Friday morning to meet us there.
Seems like there's lots of options for you.
Just looked at the routes from Sin-tiger and the return ver1 & ver2 look exactly the same to me. Just me?
It's possible, the pdf maker was playing up. The times and distances posted earlier are right 'though :icon_razz: the only difference being the detour via Plockton.

Very exciting,
but today in work the shit hit the fan :BangHead , one of my drivers walked out and another went sick :icon_evil:
unfortunately it falls to me to cover these guys, at a time when holiday is very much sought after and other drivers are away enjoying themselves there is no one else :icon_frown: .
After all the work ive put in to the bike for the trip, new tent purchased etc etc, its a real pisser!
all I can say is have a great time guys, i'll be waiting for the pics to appear :icon_wink:

Really sorry to hear that, I was looking forward to meeting you and picking your brains about chairs. You know where you c0cked up, you should have posted your sickie first :nono
57mpg :love10 I passed your camping location at about 22:00 last night but you would be well out of it by then.
Apologies about the alternative return routes I emailed, I figured out the free pdf convertor I was using was past it's sell by date and hadn't been updating properly until I did a second print, I'll resend those shortly.
I'll PM (don't have everyone's number or email) my mobile number shortly just in case anyone doesn't have it.
Weather is looking good, possible overcast at times, low risk of showers, the Avon Lady has delivered so I will be carrying on Friday, if I get stopped I may have some serious explaining to do.
The only road works that I can confirm are on the A82 at Pulpit Rock (traffic lights) and at Crianlarich (bridge bypass work) but the hold ups should be limited.
Please take care going through Glen Coe, cash collecting photographers are known to operate in the area and watch your mirrors for squids and power rangers when preparing for an overtake. Ride Safe.
Looking forward to this, bike packed and sorted. Refuel and offski on the morrow to sunny Cannock first :eusa_clap and then some :5moped up the lovely M6 :pottytrain2
cheers Spud :thumbsup
Last bit of info for those travelling through Glasgow.
There are dedicated lanes for the participants of the 2014 Commonwealth Games, ANY non registered vehicle gets a £50 fine in the post courtesy of ANPR.
but if we wait two weeks to pay it wont matter then as you'll be independent and won't be able to chase us a cross the border :pottytrain2
cheers Spud :thumbsup
AAARRRGGGHHH! I hate Tigers, just pulled tiggy out of the garage and the throttle cable snapped. Hopefully they can get one for tomorrow, no guarantees but should be ok then. Will keep you informed.
I spy with my little eye, a black Steamer heading north on the A82 just West of Dumbarton at about 15:00. I think it might have been. ............ Threepot :icon_mrgreen:
Keep a lookout Fri. guys between 13-30 14-30 for a wee seaplane up the A82 (above hopefully) that will be me !!! :wave
Good news guys! I have made it as far as Hexham with only one crash. I fell off in the car park of the b&b I'm staying in, got my foot trapped and twisted under the bike and had to be rescued by a group of kindly pensioners....I was proper stuck under the bike. So bless all 6 or 7 of them it took to move the bike off.
No harm done other than a scratched clutch cover!

Boy are you going to get the piss taken. :ImaPoser :ImaPoser :ImaPoser
Save you strength. The wife already destroyed me.
I once had a farmer's wife and her 7 year old son help me pick mine out of ditch, very embarrassing.
Working in Berwick tomorrow, so off to Dundee after work, sleep on my daughters couch. Then if the weather holds, a trip to Wick, Durness, Ullapool and to Fort Augustus on Friday, I may cut it short if I run late, but it should be good with an early start. I hope they do big plates of food, I will be a hungry boy by the time get to the campsite.
Tiger's all prepped & ready! :eusa_clap So i'll see you Spud at 08:00 in the morning & then we'll be with you PeteH for around 09:00. :icon_biggrin:
Some of you I'll meet up with tomorrow night up at FA. (I'll probably be checking out either the Bothy bar or the Loch Inn for BT :icon_mrgreen:)

Did you get it going OK? Want to stop by either XJC's place or mine on the way?
OK New throttle cable in, packed and about to tog up and hit the road. I think I must take my machanics basic course again I seem to have two screws over, I'll pocket them in case the tank or something falls off halfway up the M6.
See ya there :wave
Me, my lad, PeteH & Spud all present and correct. Freshen up & then onto the Bothy bar! :icon_biggrin:
Excellent run up, the gods must have been smiling on us!

Sat at home now. Reliving the full Scottish experience, a drinking a glass of Ardbeg, eating a Tunnocks Wafer, watching the Commonwealth Games from Glasgow, and wearing my wife's tartan skirt.
A big THANK YOU to Nial, brilliant organisation, a great deal of hard work from you made the trip very easy and enjoyable.
Well guy's,I'm in Carlisle ,b&b,drank even more ale tonight :icon_rolleyes: and another full b'fast to look forward to! packed my wet tent this morning, and headed off. Thanks Niall for your offer,(hope you found cigar I left?)appreciated. great meet, really enjoyed. Nice to meet you all face to face :wave
What an awesome weekend!!
Great hospitality chez Sin, big thanks to his better half Barbara; good coast ride with Sin on Friday morning and a try on his Thruxton - really nice bike, then a good ride up Friday afternoon. Saturday was excellent despite the dip in the weather in the afternoon; that climb up http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bealach_na_B%C3%A0 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bealach_na_B%C3%A0) and run down to Applecross was brilliant, excellent lunch, group leaving me to look after Geoff for the run to Lochcarron, losing Geoff (sorry Geoff) on the run to the A82 and then back to Fort Angus.
Sunday saw me set off at 8am for my sister's in Durham but when I got there I still felt fresh, was riding well and the weather holding so I pushed on all the way home, 510 miles in all. Never done that distance before and probably won't again, but arrived home still not tired but very very happy.
Thanks to Sin for putting it together, and for the goodie bag.
I have a couple of video clips but they're nothing special. the battery went flat before the big climb :BangHead I'll just have to go back and do it again :icon_mrgreen:
What a brilliant weekend. What a brilliant bunch of blokes. What a brilliant ride.
Loved it all. Thanks to everyone, especially Niall (Sin tiger) - you sir, are a star.
:wheel
I can only echo what's been said above. Great weekend, great ride out, great company and surprisingly good beer. Shame about the "showers". Can't trust the weather forecasters.
Phones and me left a day early from FA (Sunday morning) and having checked the weather that said it was better in the east we set off in that direction only to get bloody drowned near Breamar. :BangHead Ended the day just south of lockerbie at Ecclefechan.
Fortunately that all buggered off overnight and we had a great day Monday zig-zagging across the Yorshire moors/dales with lunch at Tan Hill, cheese bought at Hawes etc.etc.
So thanks to Sin-Tiger. Good job mate.
See you in Wales next year. Over to you threepot. :thumbsup
Well Gentlemen, all i can say is:- WOW! :bug_eye
As the guys have already said above, Sin, you are a legend!! :eusa_clap :notworthy Unbelievable location & the run out on Saturday was simply amazing!! :icon_cool:
I have posted some pics from the run on my Google + page (link below) I will post some video when i next get chance. :icon_rolleyes:
