an engine has finally turned up for sale. but it has a problem. the sprag clutch is gone. as im goin to have to split the engine cases to put the gear selector drum in out of the tiger i can see this bein a possible engine for me tiger :bug_eye
ive looked throo the forum at sprag issues but cant seem to find out what it is that actually breaks, so can someone tell me what bit it is and how it breaks ? and if someone has the part number for this modified neutral switch id be most grateful as theres 2 switches listed on the parts diagram at triumph.
hopefully me tiger will be back soon :thumbsup
I seem to have read somewhere that its just a spring that breaks, although i could be wrong. :icon_scratch:
As for the neutral switch, i know some on the Rat site have fitted a longer switch to cure the problem of the worn plate that causes the problem, but if you`re stripping the motor, might be worth replacing the plate?
Seem to remember the longer switch is from a Bonneville.
the neutral switch part you want is T1190248
and the spring from this seal for sprag fix (assuming the rest of sprag is ok)

also dont forget all the gaskets reqd
:thumbsup cheers blokes. looks like ill have to read up now on fixin this sprag thing properly. i need my tiger back. im sick of ridin this in the rain (http://i995.photobucket.com/albums/af76/IM_Rybes/DSC00343_zpsf8e97204.jpg) (http://s995.photobucket.com/user/IM_Rybes/media/DSC00343_zpsf8e97204.jpg.html) its like ridin a 130mph pushbike. i get soaked.....a lot lol
bonus bit bout this engine its out of a speed triple so itll have a few more horses :hat10
Think you`ll need the ecu from the Triple, did you get that as well?
And you don't like washing it after every ride :icon_wink:
Glad to read you've found something suitable.

Depends on what era the Triple was from, they've made a Triple version of each iteration of the engine as far as I can remember. Even the Trident was up on power compared with the Tiger so it should have some go about it.

no i never got that mate. need to find one really. anyone know what one will be the best one to get ? obvious choice is a speed triple one. if ones not availible at a decent price whats next on the list ? programmable one maybe ?
What fuelling system has it got??? what year was the triple???
If it's the same as the Girlies you're laughing. Until you try riding at 30 mph anyway.... :icon_rolleyes:
it has carbs and the engine is a hmmmmm i dunno. it says 900 speed triple so im guessin its the same, looks the same as mine so itll fit. been thinkin while i got the engine out im gunna try that swingarm in there too :thumbsup

Trident 900 will raise the redline to above 10 k if I'm not mistaken.
The igniter from a daytona super III would be a good one also but you will need to have the head from the super three as well as carbs to see any real benefit.
even a trophy igniter or sprint will give a boost to hp . more so the sprint than the trophy
I can vouch from experience though that just simply using a sprint engine with every thing else "tiger" you will have a very happy and smooth setup. my seat of pants dyno says it will take a stock tiger in a drag race !
I think my Trident was 10500rpm red line, and claimed 93bhp. The early speed triple made around 108bhp if I remember rightly, which would put your Tiger on par with a Girly as long as you have the right parts.
Just found the spec sheet, it (the T309) made 98BHP, 5 more than the Trident.
Now I'm getting scared :icon_eek: Rybes with all that extra power :nono
Have you actually met him? Not so much :5moped as :wheel
over 10tho :bug_eye :nono i nearly hit the rollin road tester when he hit the redline lol 8500 is my limit. im syumpathetic to my engines. makes em las a lil bit longer. not much tho lol altho i will keep my eyes out for a super 3 one. i missed a super 3 engine carbs loom the lot a couple of weeks ago. sold for 250 quid. thought while im waitin for it to get closer to end of auction ill jus go do this.......got bit to carried away tho n missed it. oh i did sulk.
sin, me n power is a good thing cos it jus makes me happy :thumbsup more power, happier me whats not to like ? lol
and bob, what you tryin to say :icon_twisted: lol
Yes I have and I know he's a big cuddly but very :wheel bear :icon_mrgreen:

Can you post a link to the discussion on the Rat regarding the switch?
My neutral indicator doesn't work, if I play with the gear selector pedal it has a point where the green light comes to life, not enough to help in any way. i realized smth's broken in the gear box, but opening the gear box for such a small issue seems too complicated.
I'm interested in that 'longer switch" solution. Does anyone have any info on that ?

Here ya go

yeah but if you read the whole thread you'll see where slinky said the bonneville switch cure only lasted for a few hundred miles and then he was back to no neutral light again . :bug_eye
the only proper fix is to split the case and replace the disc as well as installing a new switch .
the newer replacement discs are metal and much more stout .
Quote from: slinky @ t ratJust a quick update, to avoid anyone wasting time or money on my "fix" in future.. sadly it only lasted a few hundred miles, so it's back to where it started.

Thanks again. Depressing. I'm not going to split the cases for that :nono. I'll just live with it (till the sprag goes...)
damn ! out bidded :icon_rolleyes: the search continues :XXcomputer
Not that it is important, but the redline on my 96 Trident is 9500 rpm.
The tuning and gearing make a big difference. The Trident is just cruising along at 80mph whereas the 97 Tiger is working and buzzing like a bee.
Rybes,

6 mins to go on that engine Gav n im the only bidder :thumbsup fingers crossed
:wheel i got an engine :pimp only problem is its grey. so first thing to do is change gear selector then paint it black. anyone got a clue as to what shade of black it is, gloss, matt, satin ? now jus have to get it from dorset
Good news :thumbsup was it the Trident one?
Well done mate. :thumbsup
Keep the engine grey, it will look different and might match your forks.
cheers  i dunno if i could keep it grey Rf. dont think my ocdness would let me lol
this ones still grey with black tiger covers .....................
on the other hand, cheers for that pic mustang. that dont look too bad does it. glad its a red one with a corbin seat. take those engine bars off and it could well be my one. might just try it grey
£200 that was a snip.
I'm looking at doing a proper 3 spoke conversion now.
I got both wheels/discs for the starting price & am eyeing up the forks.
Will be posting some "How do I do this?" questions soon hopefully.
I would like some advise on the yokes I need to look out for .......... anyone know which ones give the least aggro when trying to fit them?
Also can you mix upper and lower yokes between sprint/trident/speed triple/daytona 900's?
Are the 1200 yokes the same?
Cheers
Gav
if ya can find some i used early speed triple yokes. had to modify em slightly
(http://i995.photobucket.com/albums/af76/IM_Rybes/DSC02287-1.jpg) (http://s995.photobucket.com/user/IM_Rybes/media/DSC02287-1.jpg.html)

(http://i995.photobucket.com/albums/af76/IM_Rybes/DSC02289.jpg) (http://s995.photobucket.com/user/IM_Rybes/media/DSC02289.jpg.html)
when ya turn the yoke over theres 2 bosses drill through them for your risers. apart from that it was no more difficult than changin fork seals. just remeber to use the sprints damper rod or you end up with forks 6 foot long
I`ll poke my nose in here....... :icon_lol:
I used the Legend TT yokes, like Rybes i had to modify them a little to allow room for the cables.
You can use the Tigers bar clamps with TT yokes.
A lot of the Triumph yokes have different offsets, so best to get a matching pair. :thumbsup

Thank you very kindly gentlemen, I now know what I'm looking for
RF,
This looks like the one you used, do you reckon it'd work?

It looks the same as mine, but checking on World of Triumphs parts list, the Thunderbird has 2 different part numbers for the top yoke, one matches the legend tt, the other doesn`t.
Comparing it to mine again, it looks the same, and it seems a fair price for both yokes.
Up to you i`m afraid! :icon_lol:
Cheers,
Could be time to bite the bullet.
As far as brakes are concerned, did you use the Tiger master cylinder?
Gav
i used a sprint one but i suppose any 5/8ths would do the same job
Same as Rybes, i used a 5/8 from a Trophy.
And a Tiger one would be ...................... :icon_scratch:
I see two killed in a car crash in your village tonight Rybes mate.....
eh bob ? didnt hear about that. im over in denmark till the 13th of jan. wonder who that was
