well after a long period of forced extended holiday due to so called professionals, i have finally got myself a real money payin job :bug_eye this now leaves me with one huuuuge dilema of what to do ?
ya see, ive never been happy with the paint job i had done on my tiger when i rebuilt it so now theres money again i want to get it painted by a professional not a monkey who says he can paint.
what i want is it done back in pimento red with all the standard logos and writing on it but id like to add somthin to it to make it mine, i was thinkin of above the tiger logo have "reiber's" in similar text to the logo on it. ive not got to worry about ever sellin the bike as it will be comin to the grave with me. any ideas what i can do to make it personal to me without detractin from the original look of the bike too much.
what ideas have ya got ?
Seeing as how you now have strong danish links and it's gonna stay red, how about incorporating a Danish Flag somehow?
No idea how, I'm not very artistic so cannot offer you any sketches etc.
I take it you're gonna sort the motor out first.

A spider or spiderman climbing / clinging onto the side panel?
I like the above ideas. But I'm not in any way artistic so can't really add anything. :icon_wink:
I know it's a Girly, but man, do I ever love this red paint job!
http://www.tigertriple.com/forum/index.php/topic,1141.0/prev_next,prev.html#new
That's lovely, since mine has started the dreaded bubbling I'll think about a paint job too
no way sin, im shit scared of spiders :icon_lol: i like ya idea gav was somthin similar to what i was thinkin. instead of havin the union jack on the panels, i was thinkin of half george cross half danish flag as theirs is red back ground with white cross.
that red one does look nice ssevy. :thumbsup im jus waitin on some pics the bloke paintin it is doin for me for ideas. ill post em up when i get em.
:ImaPoser they're probably shit scared of you too :bug_eye
I like the red myself, as my 95 is red. I'm not sure which one, but it is quite bright. The tan and brown earth tones some have done looks really nice on these too, as they do have that solid industrial look to their design.
In terms of what type of paint, I read somewhere about using an epoxy paint to adhere well to the tank and plastic. Anyone know if one type of paint is better than another for this application?
Has anyone ever sealed their fuel tank inside, not for rust obviously, but to keep the fuel from leeching out into the tank? I used a Caswell kit on my Legend tank, and I was thinking about doing the Tiger to keep the paint from any more bubbling.
How was the Caswell kit to use?
Have you considered doing a vynil wrap instead of painting? I've often considered that the riveted steel plates look, sort of steam punk look, maybe that's just my Marine Engineering background :icon_lol:
oooooooo sin. i like that idea too. maybe it wont be red after all :icon_scratch:
Here's a review of the Caswell kit that I wrote for webbikeworld:
http://www.webbikeworld.com/t2/caswell-fuel-tank-sealer/
Cheers Ssevy I'll read up on that :thumbsup
Steampunk is an eclectic mix of "Extraordinary League of Gentlemen" meets "Wild Wild West" meets "Sky Captain" and early "Ironman", set in Victorian times with a tech twist and a slight Japanese Manga slant, right up your street I would have thought :icon_wink: Not everyone's taste and some examples are rather extreme but strangely appealing.
When I first saw this Thruxton (http://www.sometimesnothingisarealcoolhand.com/tag/custom-triumph-thruxton-steampunk-racer/) I immediately thought of you :nod
ooooooo nice find sin :thumbsup i do like steam punk stuff i find it intrestin. also like the original time machine film, thats greatthat is. hmmm steam punk steamer or steamer punk :icon_scratch:
My daughter steered me to some steam punk literature. Can't remember the names of the novels right now, but some interesting reads.
"Steamer Punk" is pretty clever rybes. I like it.
apart from the obvious reds, black and green was there any other colours steamers were avalible in ? ive been looking but cant find a colour chart for em
The colors
Khaki
Bronze
British Racing Green
Pimento Red
Chili Red
Volcano Red
Caspian Blue
Jet Black
Diablo Black
cheers mustang. i never seen a bronze one and im guessin khaki is the sandy coloured one ? altho i have found a pic of a yellow one

the yellow one was a respray , I remember pics of it from way back when they were first posted online years ago .
member cool hand luke
had a bronze one , IIRC they were only from the very 1st year of production and quite rare
(http://www.axia.org.uk/downloads/Photos/April-Salisbury-Run/April%20Salisbury%20Run-1030009.jpg)
cheers for those mustang. i saw a lucifer orange one one adv. hmmmm the bronze is a rare colour ya say ? is there a way of findin out from the chassis number what colour it was originally ? if not i might jus go bronze or the sandy colour :icon_scratch:
I've got some pics of a guy in the US that did his in pearl white that looked good, how about doing yours in black with flip flop lacquer and call it the Black Pearl :icon_lol:
Mine was a BMW silver when I got it, looked OK but I couldn't wait to change it for obvious reasons :augie how about the Lunar Silver that they are using on the new Trophy, put a howling Wolf silhouette on the side panels and call it Howling Moon.
OK I'm stretching things a bit now.
rybes
I'm 99.9% certain the bronze colors official name is "Sandstorm"
I have an official Triumph Accessories and clothing catalog from 1999 that was in the papers I got when I bought my used Legend. According to the color descriptions available for the "Topbox 45 Litre", the colors for 93-95 were Pimento Red and Caspian Blue. 96-98 they show Volcanic Red, British Racing Green, Jet Black, Chilli Red (yes, with two l's), Khaki, and Diablo Black. No mention of the bronze, but this may have been a US- specific catalog?
The 99 listed Lightning Yellow and Jet Black as the only two choices for that year.
sin, i grew up in the 80s, if it was siler with a wolf id have to call it silver bullet :icon_lol: anyone have any pics of the old racin tigers series they done ? what did those bikes look like ?
They were nothing special Rybes, black and red.
I`ll post a pic later.
My mistake, black and orange.
did ya know the bike wasn't really a Tiger ?
It just wore Tiger body panels and fuel tank .
Yup, spoke to Clive last year, told me all about the "good old days"
If I remember correctly tho' not a Tiger, just made to look like one
Thanks Mustang!
yeah ya right rf, it is nuffin special. how bout some kinda camoflague lookin jobby or is that somthin that could become dated ? dont wanna have to spray it every few years
The problem with camo is finding your bike after you park it :hat10
Vynil wrap :nod

I always liked the Desert Rat kind of look, myself...

The white looks like it should have a red cross on it somewhere. Makes me tense as I don't like emergency vehicles, especially riding in the back.

i like that desert lookin one nick, i saw a pic of that the other day. wonder what that seat unit is ? likin the orange ones too. spose i could have written on it,
triumph tiger, its greeeeeeeeat :bad
These days you really have to know where to look before finding out it's been wrapped, I've seen a few bikes done in Asia and they really are good.
Tony the Tiger, I didn't think you were old enough for that Rybes.
The desert one was done by a guy who posted on here in it's earlier guise. If I remember how he converted it and what he used was in his posts, maybe a search would find it? Was it Patrick?
Ah yes here we go, this was the start:
http://www.tigertriple.com/forum/index.php/topic,2500.msg14807.html#msg14807
cheers for that john. ill have a look for more posts of his when i have time. after liking that one im thinkin some kind of desert camoflague as i do seem to own a lot of desert camo clothin, thought it might be the way to go :icon_lol: so im thinkin summink like this.. (http://i995.photobucket.com/albums/af76/IM_Rybes/panzer_zpsa46f3c9c.jpg) (http://s995.photobucket.com/user/IM_Rybes/media/panzer_zpsa46f3c9c.jpg.html)
i was goin to paint a bike like this once too (http://i995.photobucket.com/albums/af76/IM_Rybes/chieftain19_zps18a726ff.jpg) (http://s995.photobucket.com/user/IM_Rybes/media/chieftain19_zps18a726ff.jpg.html) only problem with this one is, if its parked near buildins from a distance it will dissaper cant find the pic of the tank from a distance tho to show ya. could cause some problems :icon_lol:
A Tiger tank paint job is not a bad idea. However urban camouflage like the Chieftain tank below is probably not a good idea in an urban area for obvious reasons. I think that is what they used in West Berlin back in the Cold War days.
Supposedly they had radar absorbing paint on the vehicles in Operation Desert Storm. Now that would be the ticket!
Quote from: ssevy on March 21, 2014, 09:52:25 PM

Or Not if it works :icon_lol:
Guys, you are confusing two completely different topics. We'll leave the radar absorbing subject aside for obvious reasons; the infra-red-reflective (green, sand, or black) does what it says on the tin. Won't have any effect on GATSO as they use microwaves, but put an IR laser on it and it'll light up like a HID :bug_eye
There's only one thing for it then Rybes, a Tony Blair mask :bug_eye
:icon_lol: sin. i was thinkin of gettin a diplomat plate for those situations. problem solved :bad
as for the camo, why havnt i searched for a tiger tank ? looks like i know what ill be doin this evenin :wheel

Consult Mustang on that. Ammo boxes are heavy. I ran a metal box as a top case on a Givi WingRack II system.

good point. i wonder if you can get fiberglass copies ? if not i know someone who does fiberglassin might ask him. Gav, you just caused me a headache :icon_lol:
Why go to the trouble of mocking up Rybes? If you go to any chandlers they have a fantastic selection of ropes, wires etc for use in the sailing world. They can make up the lengths you need, in the rope/wire of your choice with loops on the end and swaged collars so they look the part. Bonus is you could actually use them if you ever needed to. If you struggle with clamps to hold them in place we could make some up out of ally or something.
this is the sort of thing: http://www.mailspeedmarine.com/rope/liros/anchor-warps-3-strand-with-hard-eye-15178-1518179.bhtml
Bear in mind that price is for 30 metres so you can work on about £4 a metre, made up.
Of course then you'll have to find a place for the folding spade etc etc

not so much the ropes bob more ammo boxes for panniers like 97 tiger said there heavy so i wondered if fiberglass would be a better option. as for the foldin spade, i spose itd come in handy for disposin of speed camera operators ahem :bad
Maybe some old alloy boxes tarted up to look like ammo boxes would keep your weight down and some kevlar rope that you can get in a few colours.
Craven's panniers look something like ammo boxes, and being fibreglass are a lot lighter.

add some luminescent paint to the light green and at night you will be VERY visible :bug_eye
hmmm..... another thought. See if your guy can draw it up with the dark almost looking like Tiger stripes. Ending up with a true Camouflage Tiger
