Title: Mustang's shim tool
Post by: cba191 on March 25, 2014, 12:05:48 AM
Just ordered one.  I can't see how you would get the old shim out without something like that.

I have two intake valves that are at .0035".  Everything else was in spec.

I was able to change the one valve that was out of spec on my bike (#1 intake) by pushing down on the outside edge of the lifter with a brass drift while my son picked out the shim.  It was more difficult to install, but not much.  Took about two minutes total.

Mustang's tool made it a one man job, as slow and meticulous as I wanted to be, for me.

You just remove all the bearing caps and lift the cams a little and you can get to every valve shim. Doesn't disturb the cam chain or anything else. I've done my last two re-shims like this.
