Title: Removing clutch and side stand kill switches
Post by: Roadinator on April 11, 2014, 04:11:08 AM
Was planning to remove the side stand kill switch since my side stand is broke and it might take a while to fix.  In the thread my broken side stand thread, it was mentioned to connect the two wires together to keep the circuit open.  Wanted to see if that is the way to go.

Also, my clutch kill switch started to act up as it takes a few clutch squeezes or one longer hold to get it to engage.  I searched the forum and it seems it could just use a cleaning.  Any real reason to keep it?  If I don't keep it, what's the best way to remove it from the system?

Thanks!

Clutch switch,
One of the first jobs I carry out when getting a new bike. (Except Explorer).
Remove switch from housing and cut off the switch from the loom.
Solder wires together and shrink wrap.
Poke said wires back into LH loom and cover slit with tape.

Sidestand switch.
It is the same theory but I have seen too many near misses/accidents caused by sidestands left down that I would not encourage the removal permanently.

In your case however, a temporary fix, ie cable tie, would probably be the best solution.

Thanks metalguru.  Now that i think of it, I remember my uncle had a pretty nasty Harley wreck because he took off with the side stand down (until he got into a turn  :nono)

Good idea about keeping the side stand switch tucked away until I get it fixed.

Rock on  :nap
