Title: The Wrath of Mrs NickCalne...
Post by: Nick Calne on April 19, 2014, 06:44:58 PM
Not one to be crossed, Mrs Nickcalne, and apparently I have to decrease the volume of goods in the attic, most of which are motorcycle components, or face a slow and painful death.  Not good news for me either way, but potentially good news for you if you have a steamer.

Lots and lots of steamer fairing bits that I have picked up along the way.  All panels need repainting as a minimum, so make me a reasonable offer for what you need and it'll be what we agree, plus what it costs to post and pack.  Or you can and collect if you prefer.

And some side panels and other odds and sods.

Any questions, just ask.

Which is you're "correct" Red, Pimento (93-96), Chilli (97) or Volcanic (98)?

I've used Nik's Euro Bits before  :thumbsup .

I'm not sure what red I've got.
Nik said he hadn't got any l/h air box panels in (only rights?)
Title: Re: The Wrath of Mrs NickCalne...
Post by: Sin_Tiger on April 23, 2014, 06:05:45 PM
Well, if it was registered before 96 you should be quite safe with Pimento. I can't remember which one was the metallic, any ideas Mustang?
Title: Re: The Wrath of Mrs NickCalne...
Post by: ram33 on April 23, 2014, 06:13:41 PM
It was actually registered in 99
P.o told me the original buyer didn't want the new fangled
Injection and the only new one dealer could get was from usa.
So it's prob the only 99 with carbs in uk

this should help
I listed the steamer colors

1993                     1994                         1995                 1996                        1997                          1998
Pimento Red        Pimento Red        Diablo Black       Diablo Black           Diablo Black          Jet Black
Caspian Blue       Caspian Blue       Caspian Blue     Caspian Blue          Caspian Blue        British Racing Green
Sandstorm                                             Pimento Red      Pimento Red          Khaki                    Volcanic Red
                                                                                                                                   Chili Red

the color matched engine covers were a german thing and only on 93's and 94's IIRC, even though the chart shows all caspian blues with them . (they used same image for all on chart)

and the two colors missing from the chart
volcano red
(http://i61.tinypic.com/2cdd4wk.jpg)

sandstorm

I'll have a closer look when I get home at weekend, although the paint on mine is quite poor anyway

Post by: Sin_Tiger on April 24, 2014, 02:26:03 PM
Thanks Mustang, I suspected that but not so easy with photos. Fair comment about carbs I suppose.

That makes it a bit trickier, you'll have to check your VIN against a paint list if you want to be absolutely sure, sadly I don't have that info to hand.

Mustang, were the paint codes marked any where on the panels?

no , original panels had nothing on them
replacement plastics had a little sticker on the backside that had part# and paint name but no codes

heres a couple of pics taken tonight (on phone so colour may not be perfect)
im still not sure which colour it is?
Title: Re: The Wrath of Mrs NickCalne...
Post by: Mustang on April 25, 2014, 11:15:33 PM
with black letters it is definitely Chili Red
pimento red is white lettered with the tiger logo

you'd know if you had volcanic red
it looks more the shade of bbq sauce

I'm glad there is a way to tell the diffidence as I'm crap with colours and is always getting me in trouble.

How desperate are you to get it looking right?

Reason I ask is I have a full set of matching red (don't ask me which flipping shade) the only issue is someone has had the parts coded. I'm not willing to split up a good set just to make a few quid, in fact fact I'm not interested in making money at all but I do want to keep a good spare set of plastics, the colour is immaterial.

OK Bikedecals did me a set of originals at reasonable cost,  I've still got the details somewhere if you need them.

Nick - real sorry about the hijack, let me know what you want to do with the blue bits.

I only realised recently that a PO has made a nice neat job of the infill panels on mine, I thought this was standard up until then, but they've done a good job, especially the stainless mesh behind the holes, they blend in nicely with the side panels :icon_cool:

My one failed at the screw mount points. My theory is that the left one gets the most chemical attack from petrol overspill, cleaning, and anything else that may drain across it when left on side stand. The face of the panel where it screws to the airbox has the look and feel of plastic that has hardened and become brittle. Just a few thoughts...

Also it is in the way of the petcock so has to be removed when you take the tank off.
