Came across this recently. Not much detail yet but it's on July 26th.
This was posted on his Facebook page:-
Adventure Bike Ride - Sunday 26th July.
Discounted entrance to Museum for those arriving on adventure bikes.
Tea Rooms and our craft and gift shops will be open. This is just a Ride In but further information will be available in the next few weeks. Hope to see you then and please pass the word on to fellow riders.
It's a great museum and Sam is a lovely chap although not when you're competing (I use the term advisedly) against him.
I went to the Museum in October for the first time, some really interesting and rare bikes on display.
It's been on my list of places to visit for a long time, narrowly missed it getting there too late one day and couldn't hang around, got to do it soon :icon_rolleyes:
The two wheel drive Maico he has there is a feat of engineering.
Never even knew this existed and it's not far from home either! I feel a spring visit coming on.

Not interested in the ride in then?
I'd have a check on the opening times before you go as I think it is only open weekends in the off season.
Blacktiger - I may well do that too!
Fraserdog - I have decided I am a fair weather motorcyclist so don't worry, it has to be 10+ degrees C warmer at least before I get back out there. They'll be open long before I'm man enough to go outside on the bike! :icon_redface:
:nod :nod :nod :nod me too.

Call me old fashioned but I can never remember JULY being in the SPRING that is why I mentioned the opening hours!
:nono That was Nick's red herring, Howie's original question was for July ....
So we have to be mind readers now then :icon_confused:
Fraserdog - don't think even that would help, however I have a mutually agreeable solution....
Bob - can we have two new emoticons please?
1. A werthers originals one to signify a bizarre senior moment of miscomprehension.
2. A red herring to indicate a diversion from the OP.

:nod didn't you read the T&C when you signed up :icon_scratch: :ImaPoser

No! You have to read the first post properly. Especially the bit that read:- "Adventure Bike Ride - Sunday 26th July.".
What is wrong with you lot? I tried to add some friendly advice about opening times regarding someone taking a spring ride out to Sammy Millers and all I get is "FFS" " :BangHead" remarks :icon_confused: I thought this was a friendly forum but it seems I am sadly mistaken.

Your post seemed that you thought that the ride in was in the spring. So we're just putting you right. Right?
Bixxer, Blacktiger. love ya both but read it all again.
Fraserdog's been nothing but helpful and is correct.
This is friendly forum, lets all move on.
Friendly yes, grumpy old Gits probably :icon_mrgreen:

Sooner than you think, BlackTiger was on about July, but Nick was on about the spring, so Frazerdog's helpful comment was, it seems, aimed at him, not BlackTiger.

Ok, so back on topic, Howie's initial post said discount for "Adventure Bike" riders. There's another whole can of worms. Who gets to decide what's an adventure bike, starting with Ted Simon's (author of Jupiter's Travels) Tiger 100......

I agree.
OK, hold on a sec. Let us who are sitting on the side-lines, and who will not be able to attend, grab some snacks and a beverage du jour. This IS an interesting discussion.
What qualifies as an 'adventure bike'? A bike kitted up to the nuts with all kinds of Touratech luggage carrying a white and blue logo, or equivalent. Or ANY bike that the rider goes out on to expand his/her horizons???

That would be a certain Mr S. Miller I guess. :icon_salut:
But you're right. Any bike can lead to an adventure. A bike unsuited to the terrain you're traversing can lead to an even bigger (mis)adventure.
My own take on it is that it must have a front wheel diameter of at least 19". And be capable of going along a fairly rough dirt road without damaging itself in the process. All these numpty Journos calling things like the Versys and Multistrada adventure bikes are just plain wrong. They're Sports Tourers IMO.

:iagree
All bikes barring the most race specific bikes are adventure bikes. Not all riders are adventure riders though.
Gee this is fun isn't it??? :icon_mrgreen:

Of course it depends on a person's definition of 'adventure'. I've met a fellow on a blinged and farkled up R1200GS who thinks packing his lunch (in the $2000 Touratech panniers) and riding the 10k to work is the epitome of adventure! :ImaPoser
Read the two books by Lois Pryce; half the world on a 250cc 2-stroke (because she's only little).....
Four weeks away now. I hope to see lots of Tigers there. :152:
Basically if you ride into the museum on an adventure bike you'll get entry at a reduced level.
FYI I'll be having breakfast at Loomies (A32/A272 junction) at 10am (ish) and then leading a small(??) group on down to the Museum leaving around 11am.
anyone from Essex and kent borders up for a meet and ride in ??? :wheel
time and place to be arranged probably lakeside services
cheers vince :occasion14

:bug_eye It's just about to arrive here I think....
Do you know what? When we got there Triumphs out numbered any other Marque buy 10:1.
Anyway, you're all wimps. :bug_eye Aren't we supposed to be hardy adventure bikers? It's good to test your kit from time to time. :wheel

Brilliant, looks like you gave your jaws a good test too.
What makes an Adventure Bike? The nut that's holding the throttle :thumbsup

:iagree But not every 'adventure tourer' is being ridden by an 'adventure rider'.
if i lived east of Hampshire ,i have gone, but from the south west coast,it would have been 3 hrs worth, i felt no need to test that gear since, i last wore a emesurvival immersion suit,i ve put on to much weght,
and my snorkels bunged up,

Yeah, well.......it took us 4&1/2 hours from Hastings (left at 07:30 and got there at 12:30 with 1/2 hour at Loomies for a spot of breaky).....the long and winding way. Perfectly dry undrneath. Just damp around the neck. The wettest I got all day was when I washed my hands and face when I got home. :^_^ :ImaPoser
although the Bultaco i had, with a Sammy Miller frame would have made it, with it,s air filter under the seat, but at40 mph perhaps not, and the seat just a little more comftable than the tiger, seriously must resolve that one, any suggestions : been back from my last trip 2 weeks and still sore blah :blah
:wheel i kind meant the weather came in from the west so i would have been in the heavy stuff for all the way there, going home could have been better.whimmpy but it was flooded over here, :Topes ??
great weather radar link tar
