Title: Triumph 1998 Production Numbers ??
Post by: Sparky on April 13, 2015, 11:08:16 PM
Does anyone know where I could find yearly production numbers specifically for a 1998 Tiger 885 ?

Why you ask ?

In my province ( Gov't run insurance ) motorcycles older than 25 years can apply for collector status with reduced insurance premiums.  We can also get a policy that has one plate for multiple collector status bikes.  There is another clause for limited production models at least 15 years old and a worldwide production of less than 1500 units.  I have one collector plated bike a second one in the works and if I could get collector status for the 1998 Tiger my insurance would be a lot cheaper.  Less than 1500 units worldwide in 1998 for a Tiger is a bit of a stretch but the only way to find out is to ask.

Thanks
Chris

that info is like rocking horse shit  :icon_eek: non existant

but I would venture a guess that it was more than 1500 world wide

I have 2 98's , one came from the northeast usa market and the other came from the southeast usa market
they could be twins they were exact duplicates when new
the vin#'s differ by exactly 100

Last time I checked, Chris, it was one plate per bike, one insurance policy per bike. Unless things have changed in the last few months, that is...???

I talked to ICBC today as I had a question about a current collector plate for my 1982 Ascot.  Two vehicles / motorcycles is a small savings three is where it starts to add up.

Cut and Paste from the ICBC FAQ section:

I have three collector cars.  Can I switch one set of collector plates among vehicles ?

Only if you have a collector multi-vehicle plate and you own several collector vehicles, but drive only one vehicle at a time.

To qualify for a collector multi-vehicle licence plate, you must be the registered owner or one of the registered owners of the cars and they must all:
•be registered in B.C.
•be pre-approved by ICBC to share the collector vehicle plate
•have collector status, and
•be either all cars and trucks or all motorcycles.

Try Triumph direct? They confirmed to me that my Super 3 was originally shipped to Canada when new, then shipped back to UK.

Thanks for that! I work for the driver licencing division of ICBC and we have always been told from the insurance division that the premiums are so low for collector vehicles that they will not 'multi-plate'. Just shows how uninformed we are and that we don't use the Corporation web site!  :augie

Just been re-insuring my 1972 350cc Yamaha YR5 (R5 in USA).  It's with a classic specialist on an agreed value policy and has been with the same company for years but this year when they renewed it's morphed into a 1976 RB400 beach racer.  As it wasn't imported in the UK for long it's not on any of the main databases so that's the nearest the young lass could get.   :nono I have enlightened her....
