Title: thinking of buying some crash bars
Post by: fattyjr on December 08, 2015, 01:52:19 PM
Now I am reasonably happy with my tiger, I am thinking of some crash bars.  I found a set I like but they are for the 955 tiger.  Mine being the 855i.  I am sure I read somewhere that the 955 ones will fit but they interfere  with the 855 oil cooler.

So my thinking is why not move the oil cooler into the same place as on the 955.

I had a butchers at the oil cooler pipes and there seems to be plenty of movement in them.  Only thing not clear to me is how do the pipes run between the exhaust pipes?

You can install HEED crash bars. Feets both 955i and 885i. Small search you will find the topic that someone installed on 885i with pics. O am looking forward to install it too.

Thanks for the rely,

I saw the topic on the heed bars, but wasn't sure if he had the 855 or 955 .  I wish people would say what their bike is.

Don't think there is enough room in the signature strip for my bikes. :bug_eye

Mine being the 855i

Help me... help you... The year 1998 was a transitional year for the Tigers. 1998 was the last year for the 885 normally aspirate (carbs) Tigers. 1999 they came out with the 855i and the "i" standing for fuel injection. So you have 1998 855i...

The only way I can clear this up is... which one is your bike?

I am as confused as you are.  I have an 885i like the white one (is it white) not the streamer.

Acoording to the guy i purchased the tiger from and the logbook, it's a late 98 bike, that was registered in early 2000

Will have to post up a pic

It may have been manufactured in late 98'

But it is a 1999 model year , if it isn't a steamer
my model year 1995 was manufactured in 1994

If you email Triumph (I'll check the email address) CoC, they will provide a statement of facts regarding the production date and market spec.

I had one of the very first ones they built, that early that even the after market pipe that Triumph were selling for the bike didn't even fit  :nono and that was March 99 I can assure you there's nothing earlier.
My second one came in may :BangHead

I have no reason to doubt the previous owner of my tiger, but it doesnt really matter.

Whats to say your bike and my bike came from the same lot.

Order is in for the heed bar set.  Should be here for the weekend.  One nice thing is I will have a nice bracket to hang my light bar off as the light output from the tiger really sucks compared to my trophy at the mo even with upgraded bulbs.  Going to check alignment of lights first and then may have to go outside the box.

Quite possibly which would make yours a 99,mine only lasted 6 weeks and they gave me another in the May of 99 better than my previous Africa twins and niether could hold a candle to my 955.

I hope we got it sorted. Please ignore the peanut gallery tossing stones...

Tell us how things work out and post a pic of the crash bars on the bike.

Bar are a bolt on mod.  kit comes with everything inc a few longer bolts if required.  I think i used one bolt on the front left engine mount to make it easier to bolt back up.  WORST part of the whole job is the bloody stock radiator brackets.  you have clearance on all the bolt holes execpt the darn radiator brackets.

I just mounted my combo spot/flood light off the front of the crash bars.

I'll be interested to how they stand up when someone chucks a bike down the road, hence why I like Touratech.

I have chucked mine down the road on SW Motech ones, OK it wasn't at speed and not on tarmac but they stood up really well, they're still on the bike and the only thing I changed was adding a set of handguards as the only thing bent was the clutch lever.
