The ride from my place is relatively short, so I might do something a bit different. Going over on the Friday if anyone wants company on the way south.

Also looking to travel up on the Friday, get the best bunk that way :bad
So are we going to follow Geoffs suggestion of meeting at a cafe etc along the A66 (I can recognise a camel) and continuing after a coffee, via a more interesting route?
I'm also planning to get there on the Fri afternoon.
:iagree
Us 'little island' boys are planning on heading up Thu to the Dales then mooch on up to meet Fri at the caff (or wherever Geoff decides).
I had a message from Geoff this morning, he's maxxed out for a couple of weeks so I said I'd do some of the admin.
As I said in my reply to him, the only thing that needs doing now is the campsite. I'll do a bit of looking around but the Bellingham one looks good. I'll contact them and see if they are bike friendly first.
After that, if Geoff is still too busy, I'll meet up with Sin and we'll get a route sorted so just keep the ideas coming for now.

Erm, in case someone was planning on coming from overseas, where is the best place to rent a bike?? I used Raceways in London way back when, but they were less than stellar.
Rent a bike....any particular make and style? getting a Tiger could be awkward....

Not so much the model or even specific brand.... just a rental outfit with a good reputation. Assuming, of course, that a non-Triumph would not affect the karma of the gathering. :icon_wink:

Getting itchy Nick? you could extend your 2016 trip you mentioned, I've seen a few of the US guys offering their spare or second bikes to visitors, maybe theres someone over here with a functional roadworthy one going spare.

Thanks for that, Nick. Yes, cost is going to be an issue IF I am going to be able to make it. Especially since I'm off to Florida in May. I'm selling my house, for a variety of reasons, and hopefully will have dosh left over to be able to do most of my 'bucket list' things this year. I'll know in the next month or so. Fortunately I work for an employer that gives a generous holiday allowance!
Give http://mandsmotorcycles.co.uk/ a ring, they are the local bike shop and may well rent a bike for the trip, good connections by rail and air to newcastle, any probs with them drop me a line I'll call in to help out, I need some parts soon anyhoo!

Unfortunately it's looking less and less likely that I will be able to make it, since there is no action on my house sale and that is where the funds would be coming from. :icon_sad:
At least the Florida trip is a 'go'. :thumbsup

Could be fun.
I already sketched out a route running through Calne to meet Nick and then up lots of B roads, Gloucester, Ledbury, Tenbury Wells, Ludlow, Telford, Market Drayton, staying overnight in a Wetherspoons Hotel in Wigan.
Then next morning full Wetherspoons breakfast and across the Yorkshire Dales to meet the group at Mansgill Farm.
But hey, I'm free and easy. But don't forget I'm coming from Hastings in the far southeast.
Oh, and I have a mate lives in Llanbedr if we want to go over that far. His garden might be able to accommodate a few tents.
Better and better guys!! I'm going to broach the subject with the wife tomorrow and organise my many strands of work. Then should be good to make proper plans....

That looks fine except that if you've never ridden the Lythe Fell road running north from Slaidburn, you really do have to. It's a real roller coaster ride.
Just before High Bentham turn right on Mewith road through Keasden and onto your route just beyond Helwith Bridge.
:thumbsup Looks good on streetview, will probably adjust our route to take that in. thanks for the suggestion
:wheel
So, I'm Meeting up with Ivor (mat-tiger1) at Poplar Services Lymm on Friday morning then looking at taking the suggested route north so we can potentially meet people on the way. So if Threepot and Jaydub are heading the same way why not meet en route as they basically have to come my way anyways...
Beware of Yorkshire police. They are having a do against motorbikes, mainly at weekends, but also other times on the main well known twisty roads. West Yorkshire have started using two mobile camera vans in tandem, you see the first one and slow down, speed up again , and there is another van 1/2 a mile to 2 miles down the road. So you think , that cannot be another van so close, but it is.
East Yorkshire plods have been putting a mobile camera in a John Deere tractor parked up at the side of the road, it is a police tractor, but it is not painted like a Battenberg Cake, and just looks like a normal tractor. :nono
OOh the sneaky wretches. :cp

I keep getting told that that's concealment and illegal/not allowed, but around here also the plod are known to hide in a horse box... and no pre warning signage displayed either :icon_scratch:
I would never encourage any one to break the law Jaydub, least of all in an area so fairly policed as yours but....
Most horse boxes have the bolts on the outside of the door with a little hole to allow a padlock to be fastened through....
Lock them in?
Tow them away?
