Good afternoon (from the UK)
I'm getting ready for some new brake disc (rotors) on my tiger 855i. I priced up new floating discs from EBC to replace the solid standard ones. Got a shock when they said £290 for the pair.
I ca get standard ebc's for about £90 each.
Being a tight fisted git, I rummiged round in my triumph spares and had some new outer discs for my old sprint that were 310mm diameter (same as tiger) Centres were different. No problem I thought.
Had a measure and an hour on cad last night and drew up a new centre to go from the standard tiger to the sprint disc. Took it to work this morning and slipped the drawing onto our laser cutter.
I just
Quoteslipped the drawing onto our laser cutter.
as you do :icon_rolleyes:
Nice, jealous :icon_razz:
I can see a queue forming :augie
I have asked our steel supplier for reccomendations on material for brake discs. I have been reading up on material too.
Did actually think about making a set using the 320mm discs off a t595 daytona and use the 4 pots. (I gotta spare set :-)
I am trying to get round the gaffa at work to let me cut some more stuff out of scrap material as we use a lot of stainless, brass, copper
i made this out of scraps
Having had a home brewed AP 6 pot set up on my 1100s and that came with some insider help and I gave up in the end I'd go with the EBC's for 290 quid they'll last for ever and never warp.
If I had no choice, I would probably go for the EBC's. But since I have the resources available, I'll have a go.
Here's a test fit with an old disc.
here is the old disc i used for measurements.
reworked disc with new stainless bobbins
Got a bit of time today to pull my tiger apart and try these new discs.
here's the pics. you will have to mind the bike, she gets used year round in ALL weathers, even ice
