Is the front Drive Chain Sproget a left hand thread? :5moped
No, but it's tighter than a crab's ass, and that's watertight, so it sure can feel like it's a left hand thread.
I have an old Black and Decker impact wrench that I use, but lacking access to one, have someone press the rear brake firmly, and use a breaker bar and give it a good "tunk" with a dead blow hammer or block of heavy wood.
If you already removed the chain, you'll need to remove the right hand engine cover and have someone hold that nut with a big breaker too.
Good luck!
Thanks Ssevy I'll give that a go. I tried with an air impact wrench but it would not budge.
Not to insult your intelligence, but did you peen back the lock washer?
psssst ............................big fuckin ratchet and 4 foot long extension on the handle .
comes loose easy . :qgaraduate
Soak it with penetrating oil and leave overnight, it'll make a big difference.
Yes I did Ssevy but thanks for asking.
Thats my next move mustang.
Ahead of you there Jaydub. But I'll leave it till Saturday.
Next move a bit HEAT :5moped
At last it's loose. With my mate on the bike and pressing on the brake pedel (1st gear the back wheel turned. A hook screwed into the floor a rachet strap, long bar and sware words it came loose. Yahoo :5moped
Yippee!! :>< Did you get a pic of the set-up? Although I do understand that when we are in such positions, photographic records are the last of our priorities even if they may prove priceless! Nice work, anyway.
Ill post a photo between Christmas and New year Mother Inlaw alert :BangHead
Hello Beernard A bit late but, tread the strap through the loop down to the floor atatch to hook and ratchet away
Thanks Tony. Not quite what I expected, but there you go!
Some times the basic option is best.
Head off. The wet liners have brown rusty stains, on the outside and there is a bit of sludge in the corners but nothing else. :5moped
Cases split. I'll be out later with a micrometer to take mesurements. I'll also turn the head upside down, put some fuel in the valve recess for quick check on the valves. :5moped
The main bearing shells look fine no scratches, but when I split the conrods wear and scratches, also I cannot see any colouron the shells ? :5moped
What s the condition of the crank? It's a cheap replacement of the con rod bearings, but if the crank is scored??
If you have a few marks, indentations,or whatever you want to call them? You might get away with just rubbing it down with some very fine sanding paper and some oil? Worked on my 59 Buick☺
I wouldn't worry about minor indentations on a crank. It's the 'high ' spot s that cause damage,to any mating surface?
Thanks Threepot, just been in the shed. The crank has very light scratches. I think Ill get away with it :* :5moped
Hello before I buy the bearing shells I thought I'd check Alterator starter clutch drive. The bolt in the right hand side of the crankcase is tight, the bolt through the left ( behind the alternator is loose and will not tighten. As if its a spindle) World Of Triumph show a through bolt?
Also the starter Idler Gears have a lot of free play. Maybe this will be taken up when the clutch assemply is in place?
Annoyingly World of Triumph don't show this. Unless I cannot see for looking.
There is a modded shaft with a through bolt. The orig shaft had a bolt screwed in at each end.
Funnily enough I've got a modded kit in the for sale section...Just saying....
I'll have a look now thanks
Hello Phil. can I pay through paypal.
PM'd you
Nothink much to report, apartfrom fitting starter clutch (thanks Phil). I've been busy with other projects.
New main and connecting bearings fitted cases back together. Any tips on getting the clutch basket and the big cog behind it the spline that slides though them back on. Thanks :5moped
Sorted engine on work bench low stool I could see what I was doing :5moped
Good on ya mate. You are in deep and I wish you all the best. Thanks for letting us know about your adventures.
well engine rebuilt back in the frame, and out again (I put the chain under the rear engine mount instead of over) and back in again. Just waiting till I get a few days off in a row to get it finnished. :5moped
