Title: Garrigil
Post by: Geoff W on March 06, 2018, 09:56:46 AM
Those of us who were on the Northumberland, Scottish Borders trip a couple of years ago will remember the George and Dragon pub in Garrigil where we had our evening meal on Saturday night. The village has been cut off by snow for the last 6 days and received an emergency flight from an RAF Chinook. Royal Marines on board delivered food fuel and medicines to sorely tried people. The bunkhouse we stayed in and nearby Alston have all been similarly cut off. The snow has gone now from low levels, but more is forecast for upper Teesdale and Weardale today.

Yes fire gutted it from the roof down. Naturally the fire brigade couldn't get through due to the snow. Fortunately nobody hurt. It will take a few slices of cake to repair it though.
