....colour for a steamer.
I have a hankering to get a respray to a non standard colour, but play with it as I might black seems to always come up trumps.
You might be cheaper changing all the plastics.
I've got some pics of a US all white one that looks pretty good. Pearlised white with a blue pearl coat and original style decals I think would look great. I did that with my Rover SD1 special in the 80's, it looked ivory as it came at you and then slowly changed through reflective to blue and back as it passed, it was great fun to watch peoples reactions but it cost a fortune and didn't help me pick up chicks :bad
I saw a photo of a Girly painted this awesome red color that the owner had copied from a pedal bike, I believe sponsored in a race? He said it was multi layer with a pink undercoat covered by the red overcoat, and it looked great in the photo.
I also love the imperial green on my buddy's 2000 Legend. That is one that you never see.
You could also opt for one of the plastic shrink wrap finishes, which come in every pattern under the sun, if they work on our nylon and plastic parts?
Wish I could find that Girly picture...oh well :icon_scratch:
I'd forgotten about wrapping, good idea :thumbsup , reversible and it might hide the ethanol blisters.
My first Steamer was silver when I bought it (a BMW colour I think). Wasn't a bad job, just not for me.
Not a fan of the silver either; looks too much like a BMW :icon_wink:
Well, silver really is just fancy grey and grey is boring...
I do like the regular red's and blue's though...
Be brave Nick
Blimey Gav, back to the 90's in a timewarp. And No, not doing that! It would go well if I could find a set of field sheer acid worm leathers! (remember them?)
The white one looks like a stormtrooper from Star Wars and I doubt, highly doubt, that any paint scheme is going to help you pick up Chicks on a steamer! It would be some colour if it could!
The wrapping is a good call, I wonder if it could just inject a bit of interest, maybe do something, not all the bike. Some stripes perhaps?
Vest Steamer I've seen was Pete from Peterborough, used to be a member, in white with red bits, sort of supermiti look to it
Oh, as a different look, I think I have seen one or two sand color ones that I really liked as well. Perhaps the sand color from the Ducati 1260 Enduro would be an option. I really liked it and it seems to be pretty good against scratches etc as well.

One of my mates in our local Classic Club has a set of leathers like that, he bought them for a previous girlfriend (to match his Guzzi Strada) and he decided to use them when his own started to split rather than sell them, fortunately he's an A cup also. Locally he's known as The Pink Panther :*&*
I like the sand idea, there was a Steamer for sale on the Evilbay recently that was done out in Desert Storm IFOR colours, it actually looked good as it had been quite well done. If I can find a pic I'll post it.

I did find this picture on the MotoBau.de website. This kind of color does suit it. In my opinion it makes it feel a bit more modern. Though this example does look well-used. ;)

Indeed, that one was lovely.
But honestly, I just don't like those small wheels... Almost like it is a training Tiger... Training wheels and all that. ;)

At least they're Tubeless.....
Does look a bit funky though.
The high front guard didn't quite work for me, but I loved the paint scheme
Btw, he gave me an engine cover that someone was supposed to collect from me but never did. It's still here.....

It sorts the handling out Arne. I would never consider taking it off road anyway, so when my wheels started to rot out I converted mine.
I understand the handling, but I still don't like the look of them. ;) I just love that 21" front wheel.
Make it look like a spitfire.
A few years ago on the ferry from Hull to Rotterdam I saw a German plate BMW which had been very well customised into a sort of luxury rat bike with grey/white urban camouflage paint job. I thought that would look great on a Steamer. I just don't have the skills to do it.

My version of the high fender, with 21" wheel. Over 50% of my Tiger riding has been off paved roads so I needed more clearance for mud build up & installing a fork brace. I made up a 2 in 1 set up that has been great for some 11 years so far. This went along with a Girly 3 into 1 header covered by a homemade gravel pan, waste gasses fed into a lightweight 2Kg GSXR Titanium can.

I think that manifold on Clive's "Tiger" was a TTS item, allowed for use in the Speed Triple Challenge, rather than a Girly manifold. If you look closely at where the 2-1 join is very far back under the gearbox where as the Girly item was at the front end of the crankcase.

You might add to that besides full camping gear, there is fishing gear & tackle added in. Full cooking gear, 7 day's food, & a few beverages. We dropped most of this gear at our basecamp after an easy ride in on good gravel for about 150km. Also carrying an extra 10L of fuel each for this event of fishing the streams & lakes on Northern Vancouver Island. So lucky to have this in my backyard.

The Mosko Moto stuff is quality but so stiff until it's been worked a bit.
Just like my back every morning!
On that trip I took the soft cooler you can see strapped on the very back. Without that, it really isn't so bad.
If the Covid-19 numbers improve, and I can get a vaccine by summer (I'm only 62), I plan on riding solo cross-country to Los Angeles to visit my daughter. Maybe a month on the road altogether, camping all the way. If not this year, then next, as I need to do it while I am still able to do it safely.
The Mosko Moto gear fits the Tiger like it was custom made for it. I now have their Hood tank bag as well, and it is fully waterproof, something that is essential for where I ride. It has held up just like new through many miles, and after a few days on the road, I actually begin to remember where I have everything packed in it, and it gets faster to find stuff ;)
I'm being made redundant at the end of June & was also thinking of a couple of long (for us in the UK anyway) trips, maybe 10 - 15 days on my Girly. Was thinking of hitting the four compass points of the UK mainland, visiting a few friends I used to work with ou the way.
Like you, it's Covid dependant & whether I've been vaccinated or not. Things are looking a little better here as there's fewer people to vaccinate. Being sub 60 but diabetic, I'm expecting mine within the next month.
That Tiger of Clive's wasn't really a Tiger though was it?
More a Speed Triple in a Tiger dress.....

I believe he said it was just that, eat your heart out Rue Paul :icon_lol:
I like what Mosko Moto have done, I don't want to admit to how much HMRC robbed me of to import a set of the first batch. Good to hear the Hoodie is working out, again a bit of clean sheet thinking :thumbsup
Sorry for the hijack Nick, we've gone a bit OT :icon_redface:
That Sandy Raid version is getting some bids on Ebay, keep your hands in your pockets tomorrow :nono
I like that! Looks like it can do the business!

It is at £1,660 at the moment. Not at all bad for the thing. However, it seems to be slightly over the UK price for a decent Steamer, right?
EDIT: Well, it went for £ 1,710. Not bad.
Is that 2398.34 in US dollars?
That would be a bargain here.
It would be a bargain in NL as well. ;)
I've seen steamers go for over 2k recently.
I varies a lot depending on location, 2k in the posh places ;)
Is there a market in exporting them to Sevvy or Ghulst then. Sin and I bag some, give 'em a tweak up, ship them out to the US or ride them to Holland, then boom, a small profit but lots of fun.
I know there used to be a market for used German utility vehicles like the Unimog and Hanomag Henschel here. They would import them into a port somewhere (New Jersey?), and then auction them or sell them to folks who had given them a deposit. My neighbor bought a HH troop carrier, but never got much use out of it, as the electrical system was 24 volts I think, and parts were unobtainable. Cool vehicle, but ended up housing chickens in the carrier part when he sold the chassis to someone else with grand ideas.

The trouble is, that they are bikes for a limited audience here. The main thing with that is, that they were hardly sold new around here, which means that they seldom come up for sale second hand. If they do pop up, the prices for good steamers are all over the place. There is a Triumph specialist that lists them up to € 5500,- but then you know they have given them the once (or even twice) over. Regular traders might have them from 2000-2500 and upwards. Individual sellers can never be predicted. I bought mine for €1000, but it had some stuff that needed to be done to it. So, I would not set up an import/export market towards NL. ;-)
Anyway, back to tires. ;)

:*&* we've gone so fat OT on this one we've forgotten it was about colour schemes
So Nick, Desert Storm currently on trend, something classic racey or maybe Alan Carr has some suggestions ;)
I do really like mud-colour... ;)
Mud is good :wings
Black and blue. Can't go wrong.
