I am looking at buying 04 tiger where do i look on the bike to see this.

The tenth digit of the VIN will indicate the model year. Look for a "4".
04s will have a black frame and swingarm which was changed to silver in 05-06. They will also have spoke wheels which were changed to cast in 05-06.
