Title: New owner - break-in question
Post by: TigerLady on May 27, 2006, 08:05:55 PM
On my first long ride, I noticed an oil leak when stopped for gas.  When I got home and checked the oil, there was none showing on the dipstick...Can synthetic oil be added prior to the 600 mile service?

Thanks for the help!

My understanding is you would not want to mix regular and synthetic oil.

So if you have regular oil in the engine that is what you would add.

The bigger question is how you can be so low on oil after just 600 miles.

Are you checking the oil with the bike vertical or leaning on side stand?

You must check with bike vertical.

But why an oil leak in the first place? I suggest you stop by the dealership ASAP and have this checked.

Finally, do yourfirst service at about 1000 to 1200 miles, not 600. You want the engine to break in pretty good before going to synthetic oil.
