May 20 - meet Duaner in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Duane was in the middle of an Iron-Butt 1000 from Austin to Durango. We made the flea-bag motel by 10 PM

May 21 - Leave Durango and head north.

Here's me and El Tigre on 550 North, on the north side of Coal Bank Pass. Note the digital camera bungeed to the tank bag.

We went 550 North from Durango to Silverton, then into Ouray. Duaner lost his rear brakes (going downhill) on the north side of Red Mountain Pass, about 5 miles out of Ouray. Duane had just had a high $ brake job done in Austin, (Lonestar BMW) and he thought that they had messed up his brakes. Duane was pissed like a man possessed. I convinced him that all it was was brake-fade, as the "heat sink" was full and could not convert any more kinetic energy into heat energy. I felt the rear brake caliper and hub, and they were at least 300 F. We hung out on the roadside while his Beemer cooled itself and then, presto he had rear brakes again. BMW really ought to put a cross drilled rotor on the rear like the front. Of course, that comes standard on the Tiger.

We headed up to Montrose, then east to Gunnison. From there we went over Monarch Pass. You have got to love Monarch. We were running front door on some Ducatis and flat effed-up the HD crowd.

This is the after the run up and over Monarch. We made it in to Salida and ate the best Mexican food I've ever had, including Mexico.

May 22 - Left Salida and went back to Gunnison the south pass, not Monarch. From there we headed down to Lake City. Had I a cooler, I would have bought some elk meat at the Lake City general mercantile.

We headed over Slumgullion Pass, in the rain, sleet, and mud. Duaner did not like the road conditons on Slum on his 850 lb road rocket. El Tigre loved the slick and greasy pavement: to the point of leaving black exit marks on the corners, according to Duane. I never saw them, but it did feel some what like super-moto style, with the rear end out and countersteer in front.

From Slumgullion we went over Spring Creek Pass, then over Wolf Creek Pass into Pagosa Springs. This is me and Duane on Spring Creek not far from the head waters to the Rio Grande.

May 23 - I headed back home through Santa Fe. Duane stayed in Colorado and looked for property and employment. Yet another Texan got bit by Southwest Colorado.

Yes it is a Cee B. It is the +8 tall+6.5 wide. It really does an excellent job blocking the wind. However, turbulence is still a problem, and the screen is so big it shakes from side to side with wind gusts. I have fabricated a bracket and support to fix that problem. Also the bracket (cross brace ) will function as a shelf for video camera and radar detector.

I was in Durango on my Tiger the same time you were. Actually on the 21st, I was riding back from Durango to Boulder. I was there 19-21 - ride report is on ADV

Excellent Post on ADV! I definitely will be in touch next time we head up your way. I have never done the west loop out of Durango. I think I would like to do that one. See you soon...

Nice Pics Patrick...

Cannot wait until the Tiger Ride-In this Sept in Durango. Everyone says ... there will not be any snow ... I'm a Flatlander and we KNOW ....

snow flies in Sept in the mountains!

BTW... if you do an Iron Butt on an LT ....... does one have to start over if they spill their coffee?
