Hello. Name is Joel and I live near Tulsa, OK. I just got my 2006 Tiger today in jet black. Love it. I'm now 40 miles in to the break-in.
I got the Tiger for many reasons. I am way into photography and need a bike that can get me anywhere, both in and back out. This was the ticket. I looked at every make and model and it was down to this and the BMW 1200 GS and the Tiger won hands down. From rep to price this was the only way to go.
I am retiring a 2004 Honda Aero. It was a good street bike but many times the adventure seems to begin where the street ends.
Looking forward to many years of fun and exploration with the bike and getting to know many of you.
I'll post some pics soon from the road.

I am very interested in this ride. I have some vacation time and I would love to make it. i have planned a trip to NYC but this sounds better! Can you give me all the details? TIA
Hello. My name is Jonathon, and I live near Tahlequah. I'm over towards Tulsa all the time, because I have a son your way.
I bet I saw your bike on the showroom floor at the dealer's, some weeks back. I bought an '06 in Oct., from Atlas. You are fortunate not to have gotten suckered into that GS - B(roken) M(otor) W(orks) only builds junk. That's why they're now #2 in U.S. sales of European bikes. Triumph is #1, but they aren't really European, anyway - they're Brit.
Some quick tips:
1. Your gas mileage will suck, until 6-8 thousand miles.
2. You may want to check into changing that windscreen.
3. The back brake is a little grabby, until it wears in.
4. It just sounds like a hairdryer - you'll get used to it.
5. The cases will probably leak.
6. You don't have to pay toll on the BA Expressway - just ride around those big metal-detector things on the pavement, then the alarm won't go off.
7. You are now one-up on those Harley guys (Steve McQueen rode Triumphs).

Jonathon,
Thanks for the info! Great tips in there. Tell me more about these leaky cases! This was an important part of the purchase for me as I will be on many a road trip with equipment along for the ride. Is there anything that can be dome if they do leak? I will scour the forum for info.
I had already looked into the bigger screen and will probably do that before my first long trip out. Any recommendations for a good highway windbreak?
More so than Steve McQueen....my father always rode BSA's and Triumph's back in the day and he swore by them both. Guess I am finally getting my head out.

Gongrats on the Tiger. Mine should be at the dealer maybe by this weekend and I'm holding out hope that I can be riding this weekend. I am also intrested in those leaky cases and what to do about them as well as and tips on break in. I started to collect a few things to modify my Tiger when I do get it home. So far I've got Touratech Engine protectors, Touratech cross bar, centerstand and my GPS mount waiting. I'm looking at the windscreen as well and would like any recommendations. I'm also thinking about the Off road exhaust and remap at the first service. I'm located in South-western Pa and moving to Triumph from a series of BMW's. Feel free to contact me anytime for local information if anyone is passing by or just to chat.
FYI, I have a brand new corbin seat for the Tiger I bought on a different forum. It is listed in the "For Sale" section here. I can't use it because it has the backrest receptacle and I have a top box. I paid $175 (retail is $299). I'll be in Tulsa next week for work if you are interested.

Thanks. I talked to the dealer today and he didn't come right out and agree to the leaky cases but he said that "most cases in general are not 100% waterproof" and that he recommended having a dry side and a wet side while touring. That is to say to use a liner/bag in the dry side and put your stuff that you don't mind getting wet in the other. Sounds fair to me but damn, would be nice of these things sealed up tight.
Let us know when that bike comes in!

PM sent.
No big deal. I always use plastic trash bags when I pack then use them to pack out trash from the camp site. I also picked up a mesh bag from Helen Two Wheels that straps on top of my camping roll. It air dries my wet stuff as I ride. I cant wait to get my Tiger, get the run in done, and get it out on a tour.
I have one short run planned for August 17-20 to Boone NC for the BMW Rally there. Its only about 400 miles each way from where I live but should give me some idea of how the Tiger will tour. I'm used to the BMW's (Last bike was a K1200GT) so I'm looking forward to the comparison. The Blue Ridge Parkway is just a couple of miles from the rally site and is just an awesome ride!
I haven't done anything about the leaks in my luggage. There was a recent (I think) thread, either here or on triumphrat.net about sealing leaks. Seems most of it isn't coming in around the lid seal, but from the various studs and screwholes where the hardware penetrates the case. Anyway, a little clever attention with some silicone sealant (or something) actually made them watertight.
By the way, I've rarely seen stock cases that won't leak. How much yours may leak, is hit or miss. Leaking after a pressurized car wash, and leaking while travelling are two different things, also.
I ordered a CeeBailey's #2 +8 inches, and it's worked very well, for me. The only problem is that the mirrors will touch the screen when you turn the handlebars fully. Not really something you normally do while riding, so I just tolerate it. Others have adjusted the bars to prevent this. A set of risers (if you discover you'd like some), is also supposed to stop this. You can also have CeeB's trim the sides for mirrors, when they make your screen.

Joel, your story sounds very similar to mine. My previous bike was an '05 Honda Shadow Aero (classic Black 'n Chrome, 3" HardKrome pipes... awesome bike!)
As much as I loved my Shadow I knew it just couldn't take me to the places I really wanted to go.
I did a side-by-side test ride of the Tiger and the 1200GS. As impressive as the GS was, the Tiger won out for me with the combination of value and sheer fun-factor.
It took me a good three months to get use to my Tig. Totally different riding position, learning how to corner, and just figuring out how to deal with all those revs!
Shifting gears and getting it into neutral was a big concern through the break-in: it was just real stiff and hard to shift. But all that went away fast after my 800 mi service.
I miss my Shadow a lot (did you keep yours??), but I have to say the Tiger has stepped-up the level of excitement and anticipation to my rides.
Have fun, Joel... you'll have a blast!
Nice to meet you. Similar interests. Check out some of my pics when you get a chance at www.joeberkphotography.com (http://www.joeberkphotography.com). My Tiger is brand new, too.
And by the way, we are doing a weekend ride to San Felipe, Mexico (on the Sea of Cortez) next month in July. Wanna go?

SP,
Very cool! Yes, I have my Aero still and I will keep it for a while. I fear that I will miss the low slung cruising at some point and might wish I had it. It has been a wonderful bike. There are several events around that are kinda "cruiser only" and I might still like to run in those. Also, all the $$$ I have wrapped up in accessories and tassled leather....I don't wanna give it all away
So far I have fallen right into the feel of controlling the Tiger. Gotta admit that I went out on loose sand yesterday down at the Arkansas river and WOOO...that was something to get used too. Heading back thru it a second time I had both feet down. Like riding thru pudding and that is a new feel to this old cruiser hound!
Thanks for sharing.
