I did my valve clearances using a tool made up from drawings obtained from various Triumph forums. The problem was that none of the designs shown on the drawings were correct, and I had to modify several dimensions (hole spacings, leg lengths, rebate sizes, etc.), to make the tool work, and even then I was bending the legs to get them to hold down the buckets.

I then found this great tool on the 'net.

It's much better than the Triumph tool, or copies of it, because it's fully adjustable. Also it costs only $49.95, and it was delivered to me in Australia in just a week.

I have no connection with the maker - I just want fellow Triumph owners to be aware of a very well designed and affordable tool that makes it so much easier to do the valve clearances.

Yep we been Tiger Junkies since 1995 .................after years of riding old bonnevilles , Laura saw the then new Tiger and said I want that one ! the rest is history

I'm always looking for an excuse for a new tool. Doesn't take much. :)

Hi Curt,

I use the TwinMax to synchronise the throttle bodies. It's very accurate. I first used it on my Beemer, but it also does the job on the Tiger. You just balance cylinder 2 against cylinder 1, then 3 against 1, and then go round again to make sure nothing's changed.

Of course, instead of trying to get one of these tools, you could do what I've just done and remove the cam bearing caps and lift the cam slightly to get at the shims. Doesn't cost a penny.

I've just received my shim tool from Mustang and am very impressed by the design and quality (not to mention the price especially at current exchange rates).

I was going to do as blacktiger says when I need to adjust the clearances but the tool will make it much quicker & easier.

they are the original Mustang tool though !
