8) The 2008 Eastern Ride In will be in West Virginia at Blackwater Falls State Park Thurs -Sunday  June 19-22.

It is in Davis, West Va not far from Canaan Valley just 10 miles or so North. It is closer to restaurants and  less than a mile from Blackwater Falls Brew Pub    . It has a Lodge, Cabins and a 65 site campground.

 Reservations can be made by mail in Mid Feb and by phone March 1st. The first 20 sites can be reserved at the campground and the rest is first come first serve.   Cabin rentals are 4 day. There is a restaurant Picnic area 2 pavilions.

The phone number is 1-800-225-5982

Visit The Website: www.blackwaterfalls.com (http://www.blackwaterfalls.com)

Here is an opportunity for Eastern Tiger Riders to Show their numbers.

I've always figured we could easily get 100 Tigers .... but so far that hasn't happened .... how about 2008 in West Virginia?

Mark your calendar to REMIND you in FEB - MARCH - APRIL - MAY

Just a NOTE:

I plan on leaving Omaha; My buddy will be coming from the races
at Elhardt, and we'll be stopping in Pickerington, OH and visit the AMA
Motorcycle Museum the day before the Ride-In begins.

Let's get a herd-o-Tigers at the museum and roll into West Virginny.

i've got it posted on my calendar, with a reminder for march 1st to make reservations. i will force myself to make a decision on this by that first week in march.

hey tigertrax... if we arent fortunate enough to score reservations, OR get there for the first-come-first-serve camping sites, is there another campground nearby or within a reasonable distance?

Hey guys...
We've always managed to find a place for whoever shows up.
Mother Earth always has room for one more.

They guys with problems may  be those who don't camp.

We are expecting a lot of riders.

Well, I'm pretty much a lock for this! I just put in for the time off.

My girlfriend may be riding down there with me two up. Not 100% on that yet though

Will be great to see all the Tigers, and meet fellow riders! Might I get the prize for youngest? (I'm 27)

Anyone from WI/MN/IL area want to make a group ride of it? frzy?

So, Live.com maps say a little over 10hrs. from Madison, Google maps says a little over 12 hrs. Both systems gave me different routes: Google gave me a nothern route thru Cleveland, Live.com gave me southern route through Dayton, OH. Either way, might be able to make it down during daylight if I leave early enough.. 5 or 6 am?   *yawn*  Otherwise, a night's stay may be in order on the way. Can anyone suggest a better route?

Hi Everyone. I live a short ride from this area and it is a treat to ride in.Many, many miles of what ever you like to ride. As soon as the weather breaks I plan on riding over and gathering up some address's and phone numbers of some of the smaller places to stay that aren't advertised as much. There are a few small B&Bs in the area as well as some older larger houses that have been turned into sleeping rooms/bunkhouse type. There are lots of primitive/not so primitive areas to camp.I will try and gather all this up and get to eldiii as soon as I'm able and he will post up for everyone. Can't wait to meet/see all these Tigers in one local.Should be a little something eh!

Hey Guys, I went through Davis, WV today on my way home (from DC) and should have more lodging info soon.  In short though, The State Park Lodge has from outside appearances a cleaner look than the local motels.  The rides will be similar to what we did at Wellsboro (PA) last year.  WVMike is a hard core off roader with his Tiger and promises anyone with knobbies you will be a "mountineer" by the end of the weekend.  For the rest, lots of paved two lane sweepers and woop de dos.  vwmike also knows of free (primitive) camping spots close by.

I'm looking forward to seeing you all soon,

Just a note on the Eastern Tiger Ride-In:

I started these Tiger Ride-Ins 6 years ago. At that time we had one per year and it was in MO, then in Arkansas.

Then I decided to have an Eastern Ride-In because a bunch of riders from FL, NC, GA, TN, had been making long rides each year to the Midwest. So why not make life easier on them and start one closer to home.

I learned.... sitting here in Nebraska was not a good place to plan things for other areas of the country. So I solicit folks in different areas to put the package together in THEIR area. Believe me.... it's best for everyone.

I know Ed Dreikorn is super enthusiastic about these events and he will do a great job. I don't know WV Mike.... but he's doing what he can to make it a memorable event.

So guys.... plan on attending, tell your friends, I'll pop a flyer to you if you will hand deliver it to your dealer. We have an opportunity to get a BUNCH of Tiger at this event.

Finally, the very BEST thank you that we get from these events are,
" This was really nice. Relaxed. Great people. Great Time."  That makes it as good as it gets.

I'll see you in Davis in June!

Unfortunately (for me), I have already made reservations for a fambly vacation then, but perhaps I'll get to a Ride-In before too long.

Thanks again.

Jerry,

Do you have any tentative plans/ideas for Tiger ride-ins the rest of the year?  Or do you wait until after the first event to start that ball?  Just wondering if Jasper will be a regular, with one more additional further west? If Jasper is a regular location I will shoot for it also, as I really enjoyed last years meet.    Just dreaming of mores rides.

New to this Ride-In thing.  What exactly is it and what do people do at it.  Drink, throw-up, repeat?
I dont have any real long trips planned this year, so that one sounds somthing to stretch my legs a little.

I rode down on Sunday to the Lodge. Man...great site for a ride in! The roads were tight, winding and with lots of elevation changes. The road surface varied, but no problems for our cats. The folks at the Lodge were very nice. They took the time to show my wife and I around. I look forward to seeing you all down there in June!

The Long and Winding Road

On my way home to PA yesterday (I work in the Metro DC Area), I took a very large detour, and rode to Davis, WV.  Not bore anyone with the details of scenic Virgina but just West of Staunton, VA is RT 250...........this road beats the Dragon hands down!

Anyone coming North for the Ride-In via I 95 or I 81, I highly recommend this road.........however, just like the Dragon, I'm sure it can bite if one gets over confidant!  Unlike the Dragon, with Cops everywhere and a short length, this road's curves go on and on.  After about an hour and little less than 100 miles I was tired and looking forward to a semi straight road.  Overall, for a commute ride home of 393 miles in 7:23 hours might seem lame but some of those off camber twisties (up hill) garner a lot of respect.

If there is any interest, maybe we make a day trip of it.

Ed, I agree.  I first stumbled onto 250 more than 20 years ago coming back from the BRP.  I used it again last September when heading to North Carolina.  It really has not changed much in those 20 years.  Traffic is very sparse and I've never encountered any law enforcement.  It's a good idea to fill up in Staunton because gas stations are very limited.

250 is a great road from staunton North.Kay and I go thru Seneca then cross over hitting 220 to Monterey. There is a cool old 3 story restored motel in Monterey that we have stayed in.Lotta good ridin in those eastern hills

Riding Around Davis, WV

Kaylr (wifey) and I will be attending the Ride in in Davis this year.If anyone wants to get off the pavement and do some backroads we will be riding thru Spruce knob,Seneca rocks, and Dolly Sods. These are gravel/dirt roads and cars travel them. They will be dusty. These roads can be ridden with a tire with good tread.Just requires a little airing down to get the roll out of them.I have ridden these roads with tourances and they did great.I run tkc 80s all of the time now 'cause my wife says I don't know how to turn around  We will be staying at the http://brightmorninginn.com/ (http://brightmorninginn.com/) .Look me up if ya feel like goin along.Beginners welcome. It is a very scenic area and the back country is beautiful to ride thru. Here are a few pics of the roads we will be traveling.Kay will be riding her strom with tourances on this route

Hey guys..
There is a Holiday Inn Express  that runs about $80 in Pickerington.

We can meet there.. it's easy to get to.

I will be in Pickerington night of June 18.

Jim Price: Bolting in from N Arkansas

Jason & Tom: Coming in  from Kansas City

Perhaps: 2 riders from MNPLS/Madison

Tony Nader & wife dropping down from near Toledo....
probaly hook up with them along the way to Davis, WV.

Pull out morning of June 19 for Davis.

Jason... plot the route!
FYI:
I was looking at Route 256 out of Pickerington to New Lexington, OH > Hwy 37 East > Hwy 60 SOUTH to I-77 SOUTH ( Just North of Marietta). From Pickerington it's about 119 miles.

Take I-77 South to Hwy 47 East ( WV ) to Kanawha and Leachtown > MacFarlan >Smithville > Burnt House > Weston ( at Weston or Just EAST of there it becomes Route 33 East > Lorenz > Buckhannon > Elkins > haul ass to Davis  Approx 145 miles.

That could be a 'sightseeing easy ride'...

Can't wait to see the Tigers winding through West Virginia. Mine is still covered in WV dirt from a trip through the area last week. With all the hills and twists, the poor Tiger's claws are worn down to nubs . Quote from: "eldiii"Don't worry, there are paved roads in WV that put the Dragon (US 129) to shame.

eldiii

Looking forward to that. I'm going to riding the Dragon and others the early part of the week before heading that way.

Post by: jsingraham on June 14, 2008, 05:00:22 AM
For those heading from Pickerington to Davis on the 19th, I plotted a route on my zumo.  If you want me to send it to you, shoot me a message and I will email it to you....for some reason it doesn't let me post a .gpb or .gpx file here...may be operator error.

So close! Spent a fair amount of time this weekend preparing. I think we've got everything packed.. Riding two up with camping gear.. Hopefully the Tiger can handle being a tad overloaded(according to the Owner's Manual limits anyway.) I guess I'll find out the hard way if it does not.

New pads need to go on still, no one in town had the ones I needed, so I was forced to order and wait for the distributor. Installing rear pads the night before leaving..... GAH. Not how I wanted it to go down, but gotta do what I gotta do!

Confirmed for a room in Pickerington, we're looking to make it for BBQ dinner with everyone there... Got the contact info, so I'll give a ring once we arrive :)

Cheers, looking forward to meeting everyone!

What a terrific time in West Virginny!
Ed, West Virginny Mike and Kay. . . . Thanks for a terrific location
and arrangements. To Stephen Ford... your 'bonfire socials' were the
perfect touch!

We should have had a moment of silence for the deer that attacked Alan..
but he got his just reward!

Thanks to all who joined us and each with their own contribution making this a really fine event.

Another 'dead-head' home to Nebraska...

Lil Jason and I rode to Inianapolis then split.

We left 6:00am Eastern Time...

I arrived home 2:18am Eastern Time    1089 miles.

( Jim Price & I did the same 'dumb-assed' thing from Hiawassee! )

Bumming today!

Jerry

I just want to say what an awesome time I had at the ride-in!  The campground accomodations were excellent, (they even had a light show Saturday night!)  It was great to meet all you Tiger riders face to face.  Even though I'm new to the board, you made me, (and my Trophy riding buddy Butch), feel like we were among old friends.

I can't say enough about the amazing roads - we'll be back!

A real special thank-you goes out to WV Mike and Kaylr for serving as hosts for Saturday's ride - it was great, depsite the challenges encountered.  But, the real highlight for me was getting out in the woods Saturday evening.  Thanks Mike, for sharing some of the off-pavement treats from your secret stash!  I felt privileged to go along, not to mention the opportunity to ride your very well sorted out cat.  :notworthy

Thanks again to all involved.  I can't wait to do it again! :D
