For you boys who like over weight off roaders with spindly tyres, looks like all your birthdays going to come all in one go,Yamaha have a new 1200 twin coming and Triumph are supposed to have an off road version as well in the pipe line.
any pic's? where did you hear about it?
Quote from: "aeronca"any pic's? where did you hear about it?
No real pics, just a computer generated approximation of what the 1200 Super Ten might look like. i.e. the same as the 660 Tenere.
It was in the British "Motor Cycle News". Which included firm rumours (if such a thing exists) That Triumph has an off road Tiger1200 on the way. Aprilia has something "over 750" on the way. And KTM are to upgrade the 990ADV to 1190cc.
Of course, we're all still waiting for the 675 Tiger Cub. Had a go on a Street Triple the other day. WOW! What an engine. HEY, TRIUMPH, YOU LISTENING? WE WANT THAT ENGINE IN AN OFF ROAD CHASSIS FOR £6000.
cant seem to find the article. is it motorcyclenews.com? would love to see the yamaha.

Are they coming to the US? This is good news as I was getting ready to pull the trigger on an 08 GSA. If I can find info, may hold of for the big triumph
try this
Would you be so kind as to zoom in on the Triumph portion, please? :grnb
It says Triumph are working on a new version of the 3 cylinder Tiger, but unlike current offerings will be aimed at the serious off-road riders.
Expect it to be launched within 2 years and to feature the new generation triple engine around 1200cc with real offroad tyres.
The world does not need ANOTHER 1200cc dirtbike.
How about something in the 8-900cc range? :x
i hear you jetdocx, why the super huge pigs? i was down ye ol' sicle shop the other day and they said they were selling the wee-strom like hotcakes. come triumph - get a freakin clue. some times bigger aint better.
The world may not need the MORE CUBES....
but we Americans need all the CUBES we can get!
We don't ride to the store...... We haul ass for 5 days... then come home!
How many 600 hp ZO6 Vettes will GM sell..... Plenty!
The world is coming to an end..... burn all the gas you can!
Our Global Warming is about to freeze my ass off!~
in that case, i'll take a BossHoss - with off road tires thankyou very much.
Bullshit! I take my Tigger to the grocery store all the time. And to work and on adventures.
I'd be interested. Of course I would prefer a lighter more manageable mid-weight, but at least it's a step in the right direction.
Unfortunately for those of us over 6'6", bikes with smaller engines do not usually translate into tall, long bikes.
I need a big bike.

Then get a XR650R or 640Adv you huge bastard!
I'll be happy with any off road Tiger. But I'd be happier with a 675 based one...
oh yeah, well i want a 676. but really a 675 would be the perfect switch. :D

But those bikes are a horrendous pain in the ass to ride for days on end.
My 955 is perfect for whut it iz... a comfy days-long tourer capable of exploring unimproved roads once you get there.

Have you ever owned a GS?
Wouldn't an adventure oriented new Tiger be closer to an HP2 than a R1200GS Adventure?
What's the new Tiger weigh? 400lbs? Crikees...this thing should KICK ASS!

In my pre-Tiger days, I lusted for one, but reading about all the reliability problems talked me right out of it.
Here goes Triumph again...increasing engine displacement just to satisfy us dumb Americanos and our small penises. Anyone remember Bonneville 750's? Best marketing experiment of all time.
Personally, the 955 puts out more power than I am sure I will ever be capable of using to its full potential. Why a 1200? KTM and Triumph need to be ANTI Bimmers and this is not the way. Hell, even BMW makes an 800 now, which I suspect most 1200GS riders should be on in the first place. Anyway, seems the Triumphs are boatloads more reliable than the 950's or the GS's. Not to mention a used one at a fraction of the cost.
PS- being new to Triumph, where can I read more about this rumored Tiger Cub? Sounds interesting.

I was putting my money down on an 800GS when I decided to buy the 955. My point being that I was not looking for a bigger bike but smaller. The 955 was smaller than my 1100 but still bigger than what I was looking for. I did not buy the 1050 either. Again, I was looking for smaller and lighter. While the Tiger isn't too close to that for me it was still a better choice than the 800GS that is still not available. If Triumph put out a smaller displacement bike I would buy it.
I bought the 955 b/c I wanted a bike I could comfortably do 2up touring with my wife one. Also, I didn't have the $10K it would take to buy a decent used 950 and at more than half the price the Tiger is working out great...I cannot get over how SMOOTH this engine is. Still, I think most people in this country have this 'keeping up with the Joneses' mentality which is unfortunate.
I have learned in life the Joneses' are usually broke, dumb, and have no sense of style.
+1 for a MID-size bike. I need something my scrawny butt can pick up by myself WHEN I drop it.

I agree. The 955 Tigger is too heavy, especially with a full tank of fuel. The BMW boxers have an advantage there. They only fall over half way because the cylinders act as supports so you only have to pick them up from a 45 degree angle. They're just getting too complicated for real round the world stuff.
So, come on Triumph. I/we want a simple, light, off road capable 675 Tiger with a 21" front wheel.
I don't
Me neither.
nor I cos what I have is damn near perfection personified in a two-wheel transport thingy way, or in other words a very nicely sorted bit of kit
Your answer is better.
I don't want one, either.
I NEED one.
Even if I never get one, they can't let BMW rule the class. It would be sweet to see Triumph outsell them in the mid-weight adventure bikes.
I wonder what the new 690 Adventure will be like...it looks like it at least has a more reasonable seat height.
But will it have the power.
Me I'm 6'4" and love my Tiger 06.
Wife "Runt" would love a tiger cub, if the 675 motor is any thing like the Street Triple then it would be a formidable fighter on and off road.
i freakin got it - how about two. a 675 and a 1200. what the hell, there's a v and a wee strom, a 650 and 950 adventurer, so why not a tiger and cub? hey lets wish big.

Now that sounds like a party to me!

Canning will still bitch...by the time those bikes come out he'll be using 15" rims front/rear. (only goofing, Chris! (http://mudhen.smugmug.com/photos/51018961_RyC5F-L.jpg))
Aren't we always a couple generations behind the rest of the world here in the US? I've always wanted everything you guys had over there (except gas prices, I guess). We're finally getting into Mini's/MINI's, finally getting into adventure bikes, heck, we're even finally getting Beckham - but it sounds like you didn't want him anymore anyway...just like adventure bikes...
Ayyyyyyyyye...
Most of ya miss the point....
It's not the small seat or frame that's a bitch....
I got no place to put me size 15 FEET!
I can restum on the pegs.... but Im brakin and shiftin at the same time..
It's a Bitch I tell ya!
Think I'll put some skates on me boots and letum hang down on the road!

I'm in the same boat...er, boot. I had to re-bend my 2004 shift lever, make it longer, to get my boot under it. I like the 2007 for its road qualities but I would have to cut and weld the lever to use it.
You see, what I'm getting at with wanting a smaller, lighter bike is that when you want to go adventure touring properly, you don't want the bike starting off weighing in at 200kgs BEFORE you load on all the crap you have to take. Plus, as I get older (than my 52 years now) I want to be able to pick the 'effin' thing up after it lays down for a rest.
I too wonder what the new KTM690ADV is going to be like. The 640 was just too tall for mere mortals.
Don't know what the 690 will be like but the 950 I rode recently was horrible. Way rougher than the Tiger, seat too high for my 5'9" frame, vibey with a saddle that felt like a thin narrow brick. Lots more poke though, engine was very quick compared with the Tiger.
Shan't be swapping my 855i yet.
