Title: HEATWAVE!
Post by: tigerrider on August 07, 2007, 04:51:36 PM
I just looked out my office window and saw two pedestrians spontaneous combust while strolling down the side walk.

Looked like this just before sunrise.

Yep.  A hundred degrees and high humidity yesterday, 102 forecast for today.  Maybe we'll get a thunderstorm to cool things down.

And then we'll be out running half the night (working today).

I thought it was only the English summer that was "two fine days and a thunderstorm".

This fine day has only been around 22c. That's about 71f. In the SE it's been sunny with those nice little fluffy white cumulous clouds.

Sunny? That must be a treat...about every episode of Top Gear has them poodling about in the drizzle.

Lots of brush fires too.  Nothing extra in my check for that, though.   :(

Riding home on Tues after work, if I would leave my face shield up, my face would start burning...I had to close the helmet in order to be comfy.

Air temperature in the shade at my house was 101.1F this afternoon.  :P
Also, I was on the roof of a shopping mall this afternoon where it felt kinda warm.  Whipped out my IR thermometer and measured the temperature of the white gravel on the roof at 145F.  Air temperature was about 116 up there.

I've been meaning to, but I never seem to get northeast enough for one to make it to your neck of the woods.   Damn, now I missed my chance since it's raining each evening.

No,

We prefer car-b-que's and truck-b-que's in the metro area.  Safer, higher visibility, and more flamboyant.  8)  Saw two on I-285 in last few weeks.  However, the last really rightous one was the gasoline semi that rolled under an I-285 overpass and caught fire a few years ago.

I remember that one.  The heat was so intense, it killed the overpass.  The concrete spalled and broke off of it, weakened exposed steel...

DOT had to close and condemn it, tear it down, and rebuild it.

Pretty expensive for a vehicle fire.
