Title: TE610. Why not?
Post by: JetdocX on March 24, 2008, 11:05:55 PM
Please discuss.  I sat on one at the dealer today.  It's a warm spring day, and bike lust is pulsing through my loins.

I can't think of a reason 'why not'?  What are you waiting for man, your loins to explode?!?!?

If I was looking now for a bike, I would have chosen the TE610 over my current LC4E.  Less shaky, slimmer, feels more like a dirt bike, and has a 6th gear.  Go for it.  Just watch that sidestand!  It'll kill ya!

Post by: JetdocX on March 25, 2008, 02:38:51 AM
Yeah, that sidestand is an engineering marvel.   Almost killed me in the dealership.

Nevermind, disregard this post.  I just talked to my tax guy.  My bike money either goes to the gov't or into my IRA.  I doubt I'll see any of it in the future.

Thanks.

Side stand?  Explain..the nearest competent husky dealer is very far.  The pics do look pretty.

It's some silly automatic stand.  You take the weight off it and it retracts because it is spring loaded to up.  Real PITA if you are short and trying to get off the bike.  And I'm not short and it was still a PITA.

Edit:  An Aprillia 450 had the same thing on it I noticed a few months ago.

Post by: flux on March 25, 2008, 01:45:49 PM
Yup, I think that stand is double springed...the dealer here told me alot of guys take one spring out and that fixes it...then again, the dealer here was a turd and I don't believe a word he told me.  But as soon as you get on the bike that stand will retract.  I noticed it on the Aprilia dirtbikes this weekend as well.  Good eye!

This is the reason I did not look too seriously at the Huskqies. And there is a delear in my town. I've heard there are many questions about his competence. The name of the dealership keeps changing every few years. He sells  Victory too. :Topes

The El Paso dealer is an absolute joke here is his website:

http://www.mrmotorcycle.net/ (http://www.mrmotorcycle.net/)

According to the page he carries:

Honda
Yamaha
Suzuki
Victory
Polaris
Triumph
Vento
Moto Guzzi
UM
Ducati
KTM
Derbi
MV Agusta
Husqvarna
Gas Gas
Kasea
Nexmotor
Cobra
Xtreme
Transnational
Dinli
Vento
Manco
Arctic Cat
Bombardier
Seadoo
Linmax
Cagiva (?!?!)

Needless to say, I don't trust them with my Triumphs.  How can you represent any brand, when you carry every brand of motorsports under one (not very large) roof.

So you missed the ADV stuff about parking his Tiger in the ditch due to being run off the road by an ambulance?

I also hear that he's been riding with a few of the ADV NM crazies and Distanzias are no good in sand.  Imagine that.

Can't wait for the ride report.
Title:
Post by: Stretch on March 27, 2008, 04:31:13 AM
I don't remember seeing that.  If it's not posted in Ride Reports, Beasts, or Equipment, I probably haven't read it.  Jo Momma has a bit too much fluff for me to wade through.

It's in JM.  Inmates.  Not a lot of info there anyways.  I heard he got off the road and called him.  He called me back a few hours later OK, and no big deal and all that.

Okay, I found it, thanks.  Glad he's okay.

EMT's are such idiots.

Wait a minute...

What do paramedics and cops have in common?

They both wish they were firefighters.

So.....back on topic.   I looked up the maintenance schedule for the TE610.

 oil change every 620 miles

 timing chain AND connecting rod replacement every 6200 miles.

Putting 12k on this bike every year looks to be expensive!

Yikes.  I wonder if that assumes you are racing the bike?  I know in the KTM manuals, they list the 3k service, and go on to say that if the bike is raced, the 3k service should be done after every race.

That's for the non-racing bikes.
Title:
Post by: Mustang on March 27, 2008, 11:22:38 PM
Yep they are high strung beasts
My CRF450X manual says to replace piston after 10 hours
and the oil should be changed every ride ! good thing it only holds 5/8ths of a qt.

It rocks for a trail bike road use not so good ! HIGH MAINT and The HUSKY is the same way

OK, back on topic. I really do like that they have both electric start and a kick start for a backup. I'd gladly pay another 200 to have that on my DRZ. The kit is under 100 so I may do the install myself. I don't want to have kick only so I'll stay with a bike that has the magic button. The DRZ is about the lightest non racing bike with an electric start.

Post by: flux on March 28, 2008, 12:37:03 AM
Wow!  I thought the oil change intervals would be more like an LC4.  Hell, I can put 620 miles on in 2 days easy...  guess I'll stick with the LC4E.
Title:
Post by: JetdocX on March 28, 2008, 05:28:38 AM
That one is on my short list, too.  Got a link to the maintenance schedule for that one by chance?

I'd much rather ride than work on the bike.  But I take long trips and that means large maintenance intervals.  This change the oil every time you go riding bullshit won't wash at all.

The Honda is dead SEXY but it has it's drawbacks too !

In the real world , I change oil and filter on engine approx every 3rd ride (200 miles)
I have around a 150 hours of use on mine and I have been told the valves need replacing around 200-300 hours we shall see so far so good
It has a magic button , great for us old cripple guys  :D
Mine has been rejetted and will out run an "R" due to the fact that it has the wide ratio gearbox . with 13/52 gearing it will pull 85mph all day in fifth , except there isn't anyplace in NH it can go 85 on the trail
The downside to rejetting was gas mileage went even further in the dumper ......22 mpg ! EEEK it only has a 2.2 gallon tank

Can't keep back tires on the pig either , knobbies are screwed after about 300-400 miles and that is only riding in the dirt . front tire is ok though , never on the ground LOL
Here in NH it would be very easy to dual sport this thing and put a plate on it but the bike is really a race bike and not very road friendly , ie oil changes and tires and gas mileage etc etc

Did I mention how FUN this sucker is to ride ! The power from the 450 will rip your arms right out of their sockets !

I still may put a plate on it just to fook with some Hardley Ablesons on bike week !

The valves need to be REPLACED after 200 hours?  Not adjusted?

If any of y'all local boys are interested, I know of nearly brand new Yamaha WR450 and 250 2007's that have like 30 miles on them that are 100% street legal for sale here in North GA.  One of my customers emailed me the info today, they are both his bikes and he does not have the time to ride.  I think he wants like $5600 each.  I'd be all over the 450 if I had the cash.

I would be too, but all my second bike cash belongs to the tax man this year.  maybe next...

I have a hard time getting over here - I need to change that.

Anyway - I have a TE510.  I came to it from a 640 Adv.  I love the thing.  I also have a friend that went from a 640 to a TE610.  The weight was close, but he loves it.  I love my 510 (though a way different bike).  I have a decent dealer about 40 miles south (Bills in Salem Oregon - great guy with the best eBay store site for parts I have seen yet).

To start a rumor - we have a relatively new BMW dealership nearby.  BMW makes a big stink about single marquee (sp?) shops.  Since BMW just bought Husky, they are trying to argue that by also selling Huskies - they will be sticking to the single brand incentives.  May be the wave of the future.

The BMW in Atlanta now stocks Husky FWIW.

Hope it is a trend.  Sweet bikes that suffer dealer support and parts availability.
