I'm riding a loaner 640 right now with a long range tank.  It feels like about 500 lbs difference but in reality it's more like 200-300lbs.

Touratech toolbox for KTM950.
The KTM950 weighs 199kg, the 1996 Steamer was 207kg....only 8kg difference. All in all it was a bit ahead of its considering the competition at the time, mid 90's saw the GS1100, talk about weight...!

I have a 640 too, it weighs 158kg, not all that light but 50kg'd lighter than a steamer, It is a thumper with much less torque than the Steamer. Nice bike though (if you can handle the vibes)

I hate the vibes.  It makes this bike not so much fun to ride unless you are in the dirt.  I've ridden much smoother thumpers.  This one is trying to rattle my fillings out.

I call it the paint shaker.

I rode mine to Alaska a couple years ago, half way I was longing for the Steamer, however when we hit ice at Deadhorse I was sooo glad I was on the 640....
