Title: new sneakers for Tigger #3
Post by: Mustang on October 23, 2008, 04:31:16 PM
Ok Tigger #3 is getting Hacked for the winter , that way I can ride all year in the frozen wasteland and not have to worry about falling over on ice  ! If you think a tiger front wheel washes out on you easy in sand and mud you should see how fast you hit the pavement when the pig hits some ice ! :BangHead
Anyway going to mount these tires for the winter so I can play in the snow , they are very aggressive knobbies and are also DOT rated (streeet Legal) and the really good news is they were cheaper than buying 1 TKC front tire , that's right both tires for under 110 bucks from Dennis Kirk .
They are Kenda K760 Trackmasters , the only thing that is not quite kosher is the one for the front , a 100/90/19 is really a rear tire for bikes like a CRF 450 mx bike that have 19 inch rears. should work perfect .
The back tire is 1 size smaller than what a steamer takes but when you put this next to a 140 or 150/70/17 tourance the knobbie is way wider than the tourance . I like it ! :D

Before the sidecar goes on I am definately gonna take tigger three and go play in the dirt !

The SideCar

Hmmmmm take off the plastic , shit no where to hook a car ...............yet !

some bits of steel and a welder and looky here now I got a nice place to hang the car .  Did not have to modify anything on the tiger either to do it , YAY  :eusa_clap

This is something I have wanted to do for a while now . I have the talent and equip to do so . I am building the car completely from scratch
Here is a pic of some machining to make various bits  that I need .

The chassis is made from steel tubing that used to be a trampoline frame , amazing what you can do with a cut off saw a pipe bender and a welder !
when I am all done fabricating  the frame will get bead blasted and painted or better yet powder coated .
Going to run a 21 inch wheel with knobbies and hydraulic disc brake  from a honda 450 dirt bike . If it works out well I will spend the money to have a 17 inch rim laced to the hub and put some big stinking knobbies on it like the bike . Also with a 17 inch rim for the car I can run street rubber on it for the summer .
My doggies are gonna love it ! The little one already has her pink doggles picked out  :ImaPoser

Stay tuned to this thread for more updates on the side car project................

Do you plan to stud the tires? Would that be legal on your roads?

The knobbys make her look BAD TO THE BONE
They hum and sing on the pavement seem to be really good on dirt
Glad I.m going to have a sidecar they don't like to lean too well

that really, really looks great. your doing an awsome job. those two parts you made that attatch the hack to the bike and allow adjustment, are they the only thing that attatch the hack to the car? any sidecar brakes?
Title:
Post by: Mustang on December 08, 2008, 11:27:39 PM
We got brakes ..............2 piston Nissin caliper with 450 honda rotor and forgot to take pics of it . it is independent from the bike
the pedal is beside and just below the rear pedal for the bike

The lower mounts control the toe in and there are two struts that control lean out

Post by: 2004Tiger on December 09, 2008, 01:16:05 AM
I know nuttin' about sidecars, but is this one significantly wider than usual? If so, why? Does extra width affect handling?
Title:
Post by: Mustang on December 09, 2008, 01:52:07 AM
It may be a touch wide the track measures 51 inch from wheel center to wheel center on the sidecar . urals are about hte same . It is decieving looking without the body (plus the pic is on full wide angle ) , believe it or not there is only room for a 23 inch wide body between the shock tower and the left side .

And to answer your question, yes  wider is better to help keep the car on the ground .

Post by: armadillo76 on December 09, 2008, 03:16:37 AM
That is really nice looking! I have some Hippo Hands you might want to try on your Tiger since it is too late to try on mine (she's in the shed, I give up for this winter)
Now I REALLY want a Ural!!! Preferably a Patrol (2WD).

Post by: John Stenhouse on December 09, 2008, 01:19:27 PM
Yeah I looked at the lower frame mounts and thought ooh! A leaning sidecar, then next pic showed the struts to firm it all up...............see that's the problem with me sometimes I'm dumb
Title: Shakedown cruise
Post by: Mustang on December 13, 2008, 01:29:09 PM
Got the beast out yesterday for some riding ................It was delayed a few days as this Georgia bike did not like the temps in the Frozen Wasteland .  not so good crank crank crank , not even a sputter crank some more then stop and get the batt charger out .
First I had thought ,"Oh great the valves are fooked now that it is only 15 degrees F outside ". pulled all the plastic checked the valves all of them intakes and exhausts right on the low side and some exhausts were showing only .005 clearance . nothing here to keep it from starting so , screw it put the engine back together and left the clearances where they were , I'll fix em next time ,
Oh boy now I get to pull the carbs , yep that was the problem , Who ever did the rejet on this bike b4 was .........well let's just say an idiot !
Both snorkels open and all they did was throw some big ass main jets at it . After it was done the Mustang way she starts right up on half choke and just a stab at the button . so after getting the carbs sorted I still had to replace the plug wires cuz two of em were screwed and would not connect to the plugs .
Actually it was all good that she would'nt start , I got the carbs jetted spot on and found a couple issues that needed fixing and discovered that the fuel pipe was almost ready to dump 6 gallons of gas on the ground (dry rot) and I now know where the valve train is at for clearances .
I was pleasantly surprised that it handled pretty damn good . Need to make a couple of adjustments , has too much lean out and really feels like it wants to come up on tight right handers , like leaving driveways and parking lots .left handers are just about perfect , centrifical force pushes the car down and the rig scoots around the corner , it's great . I done good for a homemade rig .
Going to start on the body this week .........................

Hey Armidillo , look Ice and snow and it stays upright , man you should hear those Kendas hum on the black top .

Yo Mustang Sally...
Lookin Goood!

You are just enough of a bad influence for me to PERHAPS seek out another Steamer!

We have a hack guy here in NeeBraska who rigs hacks with electric motors to adjust the angle 'on-the-fly'....

Great Job.....

Here's something you don't see every day
(http://i231.photobucket.com/albums/ee47/2uoykcuf/sidecar/100_1997.jpg)
usually you are taking out a nail or a screw etc but today we are putting them in .
300 of them to be exact . 160 in the front tire and 140 in the rear .

18 degrees F out and over a foot of fresh snow on top of the foot we already got Friday . The screws worked marvelous .

I've got a Ural sidecar and a Steamer that are itching to be put together. I was planning on using a Dauntless subframe, but its an in house install only and I want to keep the original bash plate.  Could you take a few close up pics of your mounting locations on the bike and maybe give me some pointers on building this subframe. Thanks, Wylder
