Title: Last ride for awhile
Post by: Dave in IL on November 07, 2008, 05:01:18 AM
Yesterday might have been the last ride of the season for me, but what a day! November 5th in Illinois usually isn't 60 degrees in the morning and mid 70's in the afternoon. I rode 50 miles to work in the morning and over 60 coming home... doggone Tiger made a couple extra turns on the way back. It was great!

Today is overcast and raining, about 50 degrees and by this weekend 40's for highs and a "wintery mix" is the forecast... now thats November in Illinois. There might be an occaisional day when the roads are clear Tiger & I will go for a short jaunt, and there will be a few days where I'll get the KLR out to play in the snow around the farm, but not much real road time till spring. Yes I know I'm a weenie.

For me it's time to wrench on bikes in the shop and plan rides for next summer in my spare time.

So what do the rest of you not blessed with a year around riding season do to keep your motorcycle addiction under control untill spring rolls around?

Well, I am still riding in NH but I got a late start this year and it is unseasonably warm this week, but rainy (I love rain). I am planning to ride as long as possible and this year the Steamer will be in the shed so any good days I can still take it out. I'd love to have something else to stud up and ride through winter but the Tiger is too tall/top heavy/expensive plastic for me to risk in the winter. I'd love to find something though:-)
Sorry your season is ending. I doubt I will make it to Thanksgiving. Every year I have almost ridden to meet my parents in Maine (that's where they go to celebrate t-day) it has snowed but I was smart enough to take the truck:-( Maybe this year I won't be so smart;-)
Take care, AndyB, NH, 96.

Well, there is that. And you can go out to your bike and make "vroom vroom" noises too. Less chafing;-)
At least it's free, AndyB, NH.

If it hits 35°-40°F  ride....
You always have those days.... even on the 'no windbreak Great Plains'..

of course you may wait a few weeks to a month for THAT day..

....then of course there is that 'remodeling BS' ..... I have a doozey...
winter long ... well maybe a few weeks..... but you know what I mean!

Escaped from the clutches of  northern Illinois years ago, never looked back. Here on the gulf coast of Florida our season is in full swing. We endure the heat and humidity of summer to enjoy this time of year. Point is, no place is perfect....seize the day and enjoy the ride.

I love Idaho, Montana and Alaska, but every time I consider moving up there, I remember that New Mexico has a year round riding season, and I can't give that up.

Yeah, I absolutely loved Alaska, but I don't think I could hang with the winters up there.  Especially with my blue-collar ass working outdoors.
