Title: Brakes
Post by: EvilBetty on September 04, 2009, 04:28:38 AM
I thought this would be the easy part since the disc / caliper system is the same thing I used to dealing with on cars, but apparently they are their own animal.

How much should the front pads drag on the rotors?  It's a 2005 with 25000 miles on it and probably the original brake fluid still in the reservoir.

At what point in the pad life should you replace them?

With front wheel off the ground give it a good spin. It's ok if you hear a little drag as long as you still get at least two or three rotations.

Time for you to change your brake fluid.

Change the pads before they get to the metal backing. If you are still on the originals you are probably due.

Yup good spin then I guess :)  Break fluid is one of my last tasks of the 24k maint.

Thanks!
